“Fantastic location, nice hotel”
Reviewed 3 May 2014

This hotel has the best location if you are interested in Vatican, but that also goes for the majority of all other sights. You can park your car at the nearby garage (the staff takes care of the vallet service) for 25 EUR/day. They offer free baby cot, but the breakfast room doesn't have baby chairs and it is very small. Staff are very helpful and fluent in English. The hotel has lift installed, small and old, but functioning (the building is old...). The building itself is old, but well kept. Would recommend to others.

Lovely family run hotel , spitting distance of the Vatican its basic but was welcoming and comfortable . Breakfast staff not the happiest but hey that happens in many cities . Planning to go back again on my next visit , its so much better to stay in the Vatican City rather than busy central Rome.

As an often visitor to Rome, I have found a ‘gem’ of a hotel. The Hotel Emmaus, located five minutes from the side entrance to St. Peter’s Square, offers tranquility, safety, comfort and cleanliness. This family-run facility guarantees good service combined with affability and professionalism. The breakfast is ample and fresh. The ‘old-world’ elevator is unique and adorable. While not having a restaurant, the availability of great food at reasonable prices can be found on the same street, via Delle Fornaci, as the hotel. Hint: Ask for a room on the upper floors to enjoy a view of Cupola of St. Peter’s.

Room Tip: Street side rooms lets you hear the bells from St. Peter's clearly.

Forget about the secret of Fatima. I think this may be the best kept secret of Italy. This is truly a gem of a hotel, ideally located and with extremely helpful and friendly staff. The only way to get closer to the Vatican would be to become a priest! This hotel is located approximately a three minute walk to the Vatican and is located on a street with some wonderful restaurants and it is a great place to watch the life of the Vatican taking place. Sit outside with a cup of coffee and watch the priests and nuns returning from matins etc.. The hotel is ideally located for local transport of taxis or metro. You can stroll over to the Vatican or partake of any of the tours of Rome from this base.

The staff at this hotel are very welcoming and are very happy to advise you on seeing the sites of Rome and making the most of your time in the city. They are great fun and very helpful and are glad to help you in any way this can.

This is such a good hotel that I'm not sure they know how great it is or how ideally located it is. You'll enjoy it here !

Room Tip: We had a great room for four people looking on to the street, which was great for watching life go b...

I take University students to Rome every year and have stayed at Hotel Emmaus on many occasions. It is a delightful place especially since the staff is so friendly and helpful. They can arrange transportation to and from the airport or when we want to do a day trip to Assisi. This is a modest hotel priced just right including breakfast each day. It is perfect for those looking not to spend all their money on the hotel and yet who want the comforts of a hotel. The bathrooms are all modernized with an unbelievable supply of super hot water. The hotel is right at the intersection of many bus lines and St. Peter's can be seen from the window. You will not go wrong.

The hotel is in an ideal location for visiting the city. It is just around the corner from The Vatican, there are a few local shops & restaurants & convenient bus stops & a taxi rank. The rooms are clean & have all the necessities, & the fact that the decor is a little dated simply adds to the allure of the building. There is a wonderful original gated lift serving the building, & there is a free safe in the room. The breakfast includes freshly baked croissants & bread rolls,& the coffee is served to your request. All in all excellent value for money.

Room Tip: If I stay again will take a travel kettle

We don't normally stay in Rome near the Vatican, but were visiting friends on that side. We initially chose a B&B which proved unsatisfactory, so I popped across the street to the Emmaus, which is a proper hotel. The friendly Luigi laughed when I explained why I was coming off the street, and said they'd had several guests who had ended up with them that way. We don't like chain hotels, and very much appreciated the "bygone era" of the Emmaus, though that is not to say it was extremely comfortable and clean in every way and nicely decorated. Our room was very spacious, and while it had air conditioning (which being January we did not need), it had large windows that open, a plus for me as I get claustrophobic. It is in an optimum location for visiting the Vatican, steps from Piazza San Pietro, and when we arrived on Wednesday morning, Giuliano reminded us that the papal audience had started, and within minutes, we saw Pope Francis for the first time. Very pleased to have made the switch...
