“Ideal Base for Exploring Rome”
Reviewed 31 December 2013

we booked a superior room through the Avios site to provide a base for a 60th birthday trip to Rome just before Christmas; Hotel pretty well met expectations , particularly in terms of staff friendliness and attentiveness; eg we had a problem with the room safe not locking ; within 5 minutes their maintenance guy turned up and had the problem solved within another 5. Excellent location for walking and metro access ; Comfortable room and good breakfast variety ; the only issues which reduce the score were that whilst very clean, the bathroom needs some refurbishment - the bathroom tap was seized up , so that whilst the shower worked it was not possible to run a bath ; also the coffee and tea making supplies in the room were a bit mean ( standard issue - 1 english tea bag each day ) ; Although there were never any issues about asking the reception staff for extras, it was a bit of pain to have to trot round to the front desk each time

We booked a room in hotel Rex at Christmas. They gave us the opportunity to upgrade to an apartment nearby the Trevi Fountain. This for a small amount of money; a Christmas offer they said. It was great! Flavia and Kevin run the place. Very kind, very helpful. They tipped us a few restaurants which were very nice and payable!
We certainly come back to Rome and book at the Hotel Rex.

We returned to Rome after a cruise for one more night in the city before flying home. Our first hotel was completely booked so we looked for another in the neighborhood because we liked the area so much. The Hotel Rex was our choice and we are so glad we stayed there. The staff was warm and friendly. The room was amazing; we loved the décor and the bathroom was so charming. There is a living room area with games and toys for guests. Each corner of the hotel, staircases and odd little areas have a scenario of vintage Italian products. The breakfast room is bright and cheerful. The fare was delicious, much more than just continental. I wish now that I had purchased one of the hand painted T-shirts in the lobby.

We had a fabulous stay at this very friendly family run Hotel. The staff were incredibly friendly, particularly Francesca who recommended several good bars and restaurants. It is situated within easy reach of bus and train terminus and within easy walking distance of many attractions including the Trevi Fountain. We hope to return again soon.

Room Tip: Suggest an upgrade to the Superior, has plenty of room.

Spent 3 nights at Hotel Rex at the end of a long rail journey. Excellent staff, very helpful. Good location within walling distance of main rail station, Collesium, Trevi, etc. Twin Room was reasonable size with large bathroom. Breakfast was continental - but you don't want/need full English when in Rome! Restaurant very expensive/up market - but plenty of reasonable alternatives in walking distance. Free Wi-Fi worked well in room. Very comfortable lounge/bar area more like a room in a family home than a hotel.

Room Tip: Rooms at back of hotel have no view but very quiet (away from road) so ideal for good night's sl...

We were transferred to this hotel after the one we originally reserved was flooded, and boy we were so glad. We loved the charm and elegance of this hotel as well as the perfect location, within walking distance to the rail. But the best part of it was the excellent, attentive and thoughtful service that we received from the two young ladies at the front desk who went above and beyond their call of duty to assist us, from making restaurant and museum reservations, to buying our high speed rail tickets, and even save a room for us when we missed our plane on our return trip. Thank you so much for everything.

Room Tip: Get a suite.

We stayed at the Hotel Rex in October 2013 and found the rooms to be more spacious than other comparable hotels in the area. The bathroom even had a bath, which was great! The hotel was very conveniently situated with easy access to the Piazza della Repubblica and to Termini Railway Station. The reception staff were multilingual and very helpful as far as restaurants and bus routes were concerned. There was a great common lounge area with toys for kids etc. and a host of books that you could just help yourself to. We left a couple of books behind in exchange. The one thing that could be improved with the hotel is the breakfast room, which was slightly cramped in comparison with the rest of the facilities offered, but perhaps we were there on a busy morning. The Hotel was an easy walk to the Trevi Fountain and the Spannish Steps and we caught a bus in the Piazza della Repubblica to the Piazza Navona, which is always great. This time, the restoration work on the Palazzo Pamphili had been completed and the buildings looked splendid. Of course, the Bernini statues including the Fountain of the Four Rivers were just as awe-inspiring as ever.

Room Tip: Choose a room on the second floor overlooking the little street market.
