We stayed at the Mellini for two nights and had booked it based on all the positive reviews ... which were absolutely correct.

We stayed in a 3 person deluxe room (2 adults and 10 year old) and found it to be absolutely perfect. The main bedroom was very spacious (king bed, 2 night stands, desk, armoire with TV, double armoire with safe and bathroom). The main bedroom was divided with a door to the second room which had a pullout couch, armoire with TV, side table, and table with two chairs as well as a separate bathroom. We simply weren't expecting this much space so close to all the sites in Ancient Rome - it is literally a 20 minute walk to all the important sites.

We were also pleasantly surprised when we arrived to have a nice bowl of fresh fruits and a bottle of prosecco on ice. Very nice touch! We had wifi in our room which was great to check in on emails and my daughter on her ipod ... we could use up to 3 devices at once.

The breakfast was plentiful and from what I noticed everyone seemed to find something they enjoyed (cereals, toast, croissant, cake, deli meets, breads, eggs, bacon, sausage, yogurt, fruit, coffee, tea, juices, milk).

Everyone was very pleasant to deal with and we would definitely recommend this hotel and return when in Rome.

Thank you! Thank you! My husband and I were very pleased with our accommodations especially after a long day of standing and walking from tours. We couldn't wait to get to our lovely room. Initially, our deluxe room was smaller so I requested the larger deluxe since we were going to be there 11 nights. The receptionist Valentina helped us with getting the bigger room as well as with making sure our tours were scheduled appropriately. Grazie, to the bartender Desiree, who took good care of us, and made sure we had all we needed!! The breakfast staff should be commended for making sure my husband had his cappuccino extra hot every morning! The moonlight on the Terrace was romantic, and we made it part of our daily routine. Our first trip to Roma was phenomenal, and the staff at the Mellini helped make our vacation simply Fabulous!!

We stayed in a deluxe room which had a lot going for it but should have been better for the price. It was a suite with bedroom, lounge, bathroom and another toilet off the lobby. A range of wardrobes and a safe were located between the bedroom and bathroom so it was very spacious. The downsides were: it had no view - just looked out onto an internal courtyard, which made the room rather dark, we found the beds uncomfortable - too soft so we woke up with backache every morning and sheets and blankets instead of duvets, which we dislike. My daughter had to remove the blanket as it was so itchy - luckily it was warm enough for just a sheet.
The hotel was in a great location - quiet but within walking distance of all the major sights - the Vatican, the Coliseum, Piazza Navona, Pantheon, Trevi Fountain and the Spanish Steps. We also found some good local restaurants which served enjoyable food at reasonable prices.
Breakfast was disappointing - lots of choice but nothing was very appetising. The juices were watery, the bread rolls hard, bacon flabby and undercooked, hams and cheeses processed. We stuck to cereals, yoghurts and a cup of tea.
Our favourite part of the hotel was the roof terrace where we went after a hard day's sightseeing for a bit of sunbathing and relaxation. Also everywhere was clean and well maintained.
The staff were helpful and booked tickets for us on the internet for the Vatican and the Coliseum. There was free Wifi in the lobby but not in the room so we sat in the lounge area to access the internet - better than nothing but free internet access in all areas should be provided nowadays in 4 star hotels.
A good hotel, but if we returned to Rome, I think we'd look for somewhere else.

Room Tip: You could ask for a room with a view when booking rather than one onto the inner courtyard.

Not sure what one can add to the comments already made, but I am a fan too. Great location (20 min to Vatican, 20 min to Spanish steps, 45 min to Colosseum - walking), VERY friendly staff, nice clean hotel and rooms, decent breakfast........can only recommend this hotel !!

it often happens when you read reviews and book on the strength of comments you end up disappointed .not in the case of this hotel, superb in all aspects of location [for all of the usual sights] cleanliness and quality ,efficient staff who genuinely wanted to be of help and service would recommend this hotel .i received a free bottle of wine from the hotel for my birthday, and my wife liked the little touches ,such as night cream on your turned back bed

Room Tip: book the superior rooms, went with BA which seemed to give us a better deal.

This is never a 4* superior hotel and our stay was really spoiled by a substandard room, poor food and appalling security.
We booked a deluxe room which was nothing like the web site photos;contained one small wardrobe with 8 clothes hangers so worked out of suitcases all the time;bathroom contained one very small bath with shower but was too small to even stand under.
The carpet was stained and the room contained one chair only, the aircon was noisey.
We had asked for a twin room which was not available but told would be moved to another room on day 2 of our 5 day stay, even given the room number but guess what on day 2 NOT available either so stuck in anything but a deluxe room.No duvet as listed but did get extra pillows when requested but very poor quality.Complimentary fruit rapidly went mouldy but was not cleared from the room.
Worst aspect of the stay was that TWICE we found our door left open on our return to be told that after looking at the computer logs was down to room service and that the manager and staff would be informed, once is a serious error twice is not acceptable and even a cheap bottle of wine is not an apology, front desk not helpful "what can I do/what do you want".
Breakfast room is congested with staff obviously needing to turn tables so some pressure to clear and leave.Tinned fruit awful, coffee poor, eggs watery and raw bacon a health hazard.
Our complimentary afternoon tea turned out to be 2 cups of tea in the reception area!(did not bother).
Not the hotels fault I guess but an explosion knocked out the power for 7 hours which means no light,WATER/TOILET,aircon,wi fi,LIFTS etc, front desk again no idea.Next night and day temp solution involved parking a lorry generator under our bedroom window!!
Not much to recommend this hotel.

Dear Guest, it was curious to read your review.
It does not seem to be the description of our Hotel, especially because more than 99% of the other comments are totally positive.
Probably you expected a different kind of Hotel.
We hope that you enjoyed Rome, best regards.

All the terrific reviews of this Hotel are accurate! Great location, friendly and helpful staff, modern accommodations and clean rooms add up to a winner! Completely exceeded all our expectations! Would return in a minute. On our second night the hotel lost power during the afternoon for several hours but it was back on before night fall and all was well! The location is on the quite side of Rome which is perfect and still within easy walking distance to everything! It is very easy to walk all of Rome so bring your walking shoes, get a city map and go for it! We had three full days and were able to get in many sites! Bella Roma!

Room Tip: Stay street side.
