“Lovely stay August 2014 - ice cream and food”
Reviewed 26 August 2014

I booked to stay here unaware that my parents had stayed here previously. They had told me how great there hotel was but couldn't remember the name - but it was this one!

So a quick summary of our trip (me and my boyfriend - both 26):-

* Very helpful even before the trip - answered the phone and emails before the holiday to arrange transfer from airport.
* Transfer to the hotel from FCO airport was extra - €57 but worth it! our taxi driver was great and introduced us to our favourite restaurant! A cool (in both senses of the word) Mercedes picked us up door to door :-)
* Its in the centre of everything! furthest is 35mins to the Colosseum but it goes quickly as the city is so beautiful!
* The room was lovely - bed was HUGE!! towels changed every day. v. clean.
* WiFi was free in lobby AND as our room was on floor 2 we had free wifi in the room too!!
* I asked a LOT of questions at the front desk - where to go for food, what time things are open, how to book tickets etc and they were all so helpful and nice - and they give you a map with it all on!!
* Breakfast was nice - what you expect from a 4 star
* AMAZING air con as you enter - its like walking into cool water on a hot day :-)
* be careful - city tax is per night and is going up in a month or so (all hotels not just this one!)

Go to the ice cream place nearby its SOOOO GOOD!! I want to get a flight back just for the ice cream!! its called 'gelati gelati' on the road called Via Cicerone.

Our fave restaurant : "Grotta Azzurra" also on the road Via Cicerone, a couple of roads behind the hotel near the park.

Overall it was a perfect stay for what we wanted!

If I was going back to Rome I would definitely try to book here.

Room Tip: I didn't specify and it was good. view was just down to the smoking area but its was fine! you c...

We stayed at Hotel dei Mellini for 4 nights from Tuesday 19th August until Saturday 23rd August.

On arrival at the hotel, we had a very warm welcome - our cases were carried in from outside and then up to the room. Check in also went very smoothly - we arrived half an hour before check in and our room was ready.

The room - we booked a deluxe room. It had a very large entrance hall including a wardrobe and mini bar. There were also slippers for us. Then there was a door leading to the bathroom which included - a bidet, toilet, his and hers sinks and a bath with a shower. The bedroom included a dressing table, sofa, arm chair, little table, chest of drawers with TV on top (2 English speaking news channels) and a very comfortable king size bed.

Breakfast - this was included in our stay. Food was excellent. The continental breakfast included yoghurts, cereals, juice, fruit, bread, cheese, ham and croissants (some with chocolate or other fillings in which were lovely). There was also scrambled eggs, sausages and bacon available which was a good bonus. Good range of tea and coffee. It was all self-service and the staff were very friendly and helpful.

Location - we were a tad worried at first when the taxi dropped us off that we were miles away from anything because it was down such a quiet street. However, being quiet meant we slept brilliantly! In fact the whole hotel was really quiet, never even bumped into anyone in the lift - only at breakfast time did we realise there were lots of other guests actually staying there. The location actually worked out to be brilliant - we were only 10 minutes away from the main street - Via Del Corso. This leads to so many places (Pantheon, Spanish Steps, Trevi Fountain, Collosseum) - so once we were there it made getting around so easy. It was also lovely to cross the river every day.

Staff- The reception team were the best thing about this hotel. Honestly, there were all fantastic. They acted as our tourist information! Booked us tickets for things, gave us advice on where to go, when and how! Nothing was too much trouble. We asked them questions all the time, and always got helpful advice which seemed no trouble to them. We were so grateful for this having never done a city break before but wanting to see everything!

Couple of other things - check out time is not until 12, which is really good and they looked after our luggage. Wi-Fi is free in the reception/lounge/breakfast areas. The rooftop terrace is worth going up to - you can call down to the bar for a drink and there are is also a lovely sun lounging area which was the perfect place to chill out after a busy day sight-seeing!

Thank you for a brilliant stay! We would recommend this hotel 100%!

Couple of things about Rome... the area around the Pantheon was our favourite place for dinner. Loads of restaurants, much more reasonably priced than we expected and a great atmosphere - street sellers, performers and of course amazing scenery! Get skip the line tickets wherever you can - the queue for the Vatican and coliseum are INSANE and so worth the small price increase to skip. The Trevi fountain is currently not in use and covered in scaffolding and will be for another year according to the police officer there I spoke to - so don't get your hopes up about seeing that.

Room Tip: We loved room 416

What a find. A delightful quiet hotel. Excellent location in the Vatican area. We were able to walk all over Rome. Lots of bars and restaurants off the piazza - a 5 minute walk or cross over the bridge towards piazza Navone. Spotlessly clean. Congratulations to the General Manager for creating such high morale in the staff who were quite the nicest most helpful Team I have ever met in over 50+ years of world travel. A buffet breakfast is provided but no other catering. WIFI is free in lobby but payable in rooms. I would definitely return.

Booked up through BA and upgraded to this hotel. Staff very friendly and helpful.
Hotel is in a good position, caught somewhere between the main attractions. Rooms where tidy, and a good size, beds are massive, best nights sleep I've had in a hotel for a long time. Breakfast was included, hot and cold with fruit if required.
All in all a terrific stay. Thanks keep up the good work. :-)

My wife and daughter and I spent 8 days at this hotel. It was booked online on a website for "Small and Elegant Hotels". We booked a "family room" which consisted of a King Bed and a pull out. The room was rather small but the hotel was excellent. The room had the basic features one would expect, although a clock radio would make a fine addition, as well as more English language television channels. There was absolutely no view from the room other than the windows of an adjacent apartment (I believe most of the rooms do not have any view) The location was quiet and only a short walk to all the sights, sounds and excitement of the old city. The hotel was clean and the staff friendly and helpful. Great recommendations for restaurants and other sights were much appreciated. The included breakfast was a great way to start each day (although after 8 days we were happy for a menu change!). The top floor had a gym and a patio area which was quiet and perfect for a glass of wine and a good book in the evening. We rely on the internet a lot in our travels and this is an area in which the hotel could improve upon. The restriction on the number of devices offered free access in the room was a bit of annoyance although there is free access in the lobby. Overall, a clean location and friendly staff made for an enjoyable stay in Rome.

Room Tip: A couple of rooms at the higher level have a balcony - ask for it.

7 days in Rome with my mother. The Hotel was in a perfect quiet location, only 10 min walk to The Vatican. Room service food was delicious! The staff were so kind providing tips of trips, eats and shops. They gave us with various maps (which was very helpful) and leaflets for tours. Any questions they were happy to help even the Maids. Their english was very good, I even heard a few other languages spoken fluently too. Everything they did was with a smile. I would defiantly return to this Hotel again.

When we read the glowing reviews for this hotel we thought that it was unlikely that it could be THAT good. In fact, it was better! From the welcoming staff on arrival, to the little touches during our stay, everything was of the best. We had a spacious suite in which every detail was well thought out - a bottle of wine and fruit when we arrived, two WCs, two TVs, even a built-in square plug socket and an iphone charging point. The rooms were immaculate with linen and towels changed daily. The staff could not have been more helpful with tips about local restaurants and sites, and, although the hotel is not located in the centre, it is within a very pleasant 10 minute walk of the hustle and bustle of the city. Yet, after a fulfilling meal and local wine, it was a pleasure to meander back to the quiet of the hotel. All in all, four blissful days.
