“La Balestra”
Reviewed 29 May 2012

We stumbled upon this place accidentally, as we were trying to dine at a restaurant down the street but learned they were completely booked w/ reservations when we got there. They were welcoming & our server, Umberto, was extremely friendly & attentive (even w/ limited English). People not looking for an authentic, local experience should not come here... as this was a typical neighborhood restaurant outside the city walls (not far from Borghese Garden area) where we saw Italian families dining w/ their kids. We were looking for exactly that...some place where we could experience the real culture, not the tourist culture. Bottom line - we got twice as much food & wine for half the price we had paid the night before at some awful tourist place in Piazza Navona. AND, the food was among the best we had on our trip!

“great italian food in a family owned restaurant”
Reviewed 1 August 2011

The concierge of our hotel recommended La Balestra as a casual restaurant offering good italian food. The restaurant more than lived up to this recommendation. We ended up eating there multiple times during our short stay in Rome! Some of our favorite dishes included the bruschetta, side of spinach, canelloni, lasagna, and the tiramisu. The family who worked there were so welcoming and made us feel like family.

“La Balestra near Grand Hotel Beverly Hills”
Reviewed 20 November 2009

This restaurant was very quaint and the food was good. However, we paid a high price for a small amount of food. There were alot of locals in there and their dishes appeared to be piled high with pasta while ours was miniscule. Not worth the price.
