Description: The Bistro-Cafeteria at the Chiostro del Bramante is a refreshment bar and convivial place to meet in the warm atmosphere of the Chiostro. It is a relaxing meeting place for breakfast, lunch, tea or a drink either while visiting an exhibition or on any other occasion. The speciality of the Bistro-Cafeteria are its varied menus, natural yet refined. Table service further adds to guests' comfort. At all hours the greatest care is taken to offer only the best produce, be it prepared at the counter or by chefs in the Chiostro kitchens.

“Stop for a drink or coffee!”
Reviewed 6 June 2013

As all the outside tables at nearby Caffè della Pace were taken, we luckily decided to visit this lovely courtyard for an afternoon drink. Great to view the Raphael fresco through the lounge window, I love when I can experience great art without a lot of effort! We sat at one of the outside tables tucked away from the buzzling streets and well protected from the sudden rain. I regret not buying anything from the cute shop, will do that next time!

“Coffee in the cloister”
Reviewed 21 May 2013

This café has long been a favourite of mine. Where else can you enjoy a cup of coffee surrounded by a masterpiece of Renaissance architecture! The cloister was designed by Donato Bramante in 1504, his first project in the Eternal City. Bramante's compatriot, Raphael, arrived in Rome a few years later and his frescoes in the adjacent church of Santa Maria della Pace can be viewed from the café's lounge.

The café's decor is ultra-modern, which, I think, works remarkably well with the Renaissance architecture.

My only pique is that, for some inexplicable reason, the café no longer provides free Wi-Fi.

“Charming atmosphere”
Reviewed 26 January 2013 via mobile

Sitting in one of the little stone nooks overlooking the cloister is delightful. Be sure to go into the lounge for the window that allows a peek of the frescoed walls of adjoining church (that is hard to get into due to limited hours of access).

“great value for money”
Reviewed 2 January 2013

Friendly staff, good food, clean and very convenient for people visiting the exhibitions; it comprises a very quiet lounge from which Raphael's frescoes can be admired.

“Creative Food in a Renaissance Location”
Reviewed 12 December 2012

I've been to the Chiostro del Bramante many times over the course of years. Sometimes the ugly tent for events such as weddings is up, to cover the open-air portion of the ground level of the cloister; sometimes it's down. However, the food is always good. While there in Nov. 2012 I had mini quiche with a very crispy, tasty crust, side salad and choice of breads. You can ask for butter or olive oil to go with the bread. Their selection of wine is excellent. Dessert could be larger or smaller, a piece of cake or torte, or a biscotto (singular) or biscotti (if you want more than one!). You go inside to order and pay. They give you a number to take to your choice of tables. Tables are inside where you order, inside another area with comfy overstuffed chairs or outside around the arcade of the cloister (my favorite place). Seating was originally carved into the low wall supporting the columns, two seats facing one another. Custom-made tables with foot rests and purse hooks enable you to sit there comfortably. The entrance is to the left of Santa Maria della Pace church. Go upstairs for a great experience, whether you want a meal, a class of wine or cup of coffee. Check out the temporary exhibits at the museum while you're there; I saw a Stanley Kubrick exhibit in Nov. (for an entrance fee).
