“Fabulous Experience- highly recommend!!!”
Reviewed 8 November 2009

Hotel Campo De' Fiori was a fantastic hotel and where we began our vacation in Italy. Everything was wonderful - from the room to the location to the staff. We especially felt so welcome by Olga. She was incredible - very helpful in recommending great restaurants, sights to see , how to get there and anything else we needed.. She made us feel like we were special, as we're sure she does with each hotel guest. .

We actually booked this hotel based on the high reommendations posted on TripAdvisor. We were not disappointed and would gladly return to the hotel.

This was our first time in Rome - we could not have asked for a better hotel - great, friendly staff, great location - we could walk everywhere - we highly receommend Campo De'Fiori! Special thanks to Matteo and the rest of the front desk staff for their help making sure a package sent to us from the States finally got to us in Florence - we didn't even have to ask - they just followed up and made it easy - thanks again.

I would definitely recommend the apartments belonging to Hotel Campo De'Fiori to families travelling with children. It was perfect to have somewhere spacious to come back to for a few hours play, quiet time and tea before heading out again in the early evening. We stayed in apartment C4, which is a few steps away from the wonderful Campo De' Fiori and across the square from the main hotel. Our apartment was in the attic, which meant climbing up a steep staircase to the fourth floor but that also meant it was very quiet at night, which is great with small children. I wouldn't have wanted to carrry a pram up but our 5 year old raced up the stairs with no trouble and there were other apartments lower down. The apartment itself was simple but spacious, comfortable and cleaned daily. The double bed had quite a thin matress but we still slept very well. The kitchen had a good sized fridge/freezer and a full size hob. There was no oven or grill but otherwise it was well equipped and clean. We cooked some great meals, supplied by the fantastic market on our doorstep. The hotel were also able to organise an english -speaking babysitter (expensive but very professional and friendly) so we could also take advantage of the excellent restaurants in the neighbourhood on a couple of nights. We also loved the roof terrace of the main hotel.

We stayed in one of the apartments. It was the worst I have ever stayed in. You must check in at the hotel, and then drag your luggage down the street and around the corner where the apt building is located in a graffiti filled alleyway. We were informed there was no telephone, but there was, it was simply not working / no line? The elevator in the building can only fit one person with one suitcase at a time. You are given one set of keys; one key for the front door of the apt building and one key for your door. What a hassle. How do four people get in and out of the apt with one key? It's not like a hotel, where you can walk in and knock on your door to be let into your room. There is no one in attendance in the apt lobby, the front door is locked, and remember, there is no telephone to call up to the room. It was extremely annoying. The worst aspect of this though, is the fact that the front door to the building automatically locks from the inside also. You need the key to get OUT of the building. It made me sick to think if there was ever a fire in this place. Scrambling to unlock doors,or, what if your friend has the key and they are out of the building, and of course, no phone to call for help. For this reason alone, this place was unacceptable.
The apt itself looks like it was last remodeled in 1978.
The icing on the cake for me was when we were leaving. We dragged our suitcases back to the hotel to check out and we were pretty tired. We asked to use the phone to call a taxi, and the desk clerk adamantly refused to let us use it, or call one himself. I reminded him that there was no telephone in our apt, and we would gladly pay for the call, but again, the answer was "no". This was the worst hotel experience I have ever had. There are so many better choices to stay at in Rome than this fire hazard.

Dear Guest,
I do need to say that your review is hard to believe and I also find it exaggerated. I do suggest to read our other reviews to get an non bias opinion. You reserved an apartment and this means an apartment not a hotel room. This is clearly stated on all of our information. I just want to say that all of our apartments are today completely renovated and therefore have nothing to do with what you have described in your review so I do suggest to return and stay with us. Today we are among the top structures that are listed in Rome!
Warmest regards,
F. Severino

We just returned from six days in Rome at the Hotel Campo De' Fiori in Rome. It was a wonderful visit and the hotel was perfect. The staff was more than accomodating and all spoke English. The rooms were small, but from what I hear, pretty normal for European standards. They were clean, charming and cozy. I found the beds to be comfortable, too. Every morning, I would pull back our drapes and open our shutters and windows and listen to the people passing by. The market is just around the corner and it was fun to be able to walk though there every morning or afternoon before they packed up. The piazza also has many restaurants to grab a dinner or a quick bite to eat. Also, there is shopping all around. I was surprised to see as many students as we did, but that was the case in Florence as well. From this location, we were able to walk just about everywhere. We could have taken buses, etc but we really enjoyed exploring the city by foot. I would stay here again without a doubt.

Arriving via the airport, the hotel can make arrangements for a driver to pick you up for 50 euros or you can take a cab which could cost 35-45 euros. If you arrive via the train station as we did, a cab is the quickest way to the hotel and cost about 12-15 euros.

We stayed in Rome for two days just recently. I booked 2 rooms, but only one was confirmed. Luckily, I caught this before we left the US and so they confirmed an apartment they have nearby for the other room.
The staff at the hotel speak great English but are not the most helpful. They hand you a map, circle the location of the hotel and send you on your way. Compared to others that we encountered, they were not as helpful. We asked the first man we met at the desk for a dinner recommendation. He told us of one restaurant and we asked twice for them to make a reservation. He said he would and would leave the information for us at the desk when we returned from sight seeing. When we got back, his shift was over and there was no information. Luckily, we got a great restaurant recommendation from someone else at the desk. The apartment, though very spacious, was not nearly as luxurious as the hotel and was not air conditioned. Before we left, I was assured that this wouldn't be an issue in Rome in October but given the temps were in the 80s, it was hot. The best, most wonderful place about this hotel is the rooftop terrace. It is stunning and very spacious. We went there each night to enjoy wine and cheese and the amazing view. The terrace made the hotel so special. The location is great-- very near neat shops (for shopping), restaurants, markets, and the major sights. We walked everywhere and it was a good resting spot between Ancient Rome and the Vatican. The room in the hotel was small, but very nice. The bathroom was wonderful. Overall, the price was higher than some but given the location, the luxury and the rooftop terrace, it was still a great value. If the staff had been friendlier and not messed up the reservation, it would get 5 stars from us!

We found this hotel to be perfect for what we needed. While the bedroom was small, the bathroom was large and lovely. But it was really Olga at the desk who made our stay so great. She recommended wonderful restaurants, and gave us terrific directions to everywhere we went. She was always so friendly and patient.
Bene Bene!
