“Excellent service and perfect location”
Reviewed 7 January 2011

This is a wonderful hotel and we had a great stay over the Christmas holiday. The rooms are great and the staff are friendly, competent, and go out of their way to be helpful. The small self-service apartments next door are clean, pleasant, and everything works. We cooked a few times in the kitchenette with things bought at the outdoor market in Campo dei Fiori. Excellent! The location is right in the centre of the old part of town. Most sights are within 10-15 minutes walking distance.

Only drawback is terrible wifi. The internet only works from the lobby, the breakfast room, and the roof terrace. You can't access wifi from most rooms. In addition, your computer/smartphone has to be reregistered every 24 hours which the reception.

I just returned from a trip to Rome with my mother, husband, and son (2 years old). I decided to stay at the Hotel Campo De'Fiori because of the reviews on TripAdvisor, because they had apartments, and because of the central location. After staying at an apartment maintained by Hotel Campo De'Fiori, I needed to write a review to give other families with young children more information.

Pluses: We found the apartment to be spacious and clean. The apartment was near the square/market, and thus was convenient for us. Great view from the rooftop.
Minuses: The staff of the hotel was often aloof and unhelpful to us. For example, I booked online for a specific apartment that was on a ground floor so that we wouldn't have to take our stroller and multiple bags up and down many flights of steps. When we arrived, they did not give me the apartment that they told me I would get via email - all that was available was on the 2nd or 3rd floors, at a building 2 blocks from the hotel. We had to move 4 heavy suitcases, a young child, stroller and car seat over two blocks and up to a 3rd floor apartment at 8 pm in the evening. Since this is a small hotel and there was only one employee working at night, we had to do this all ourselves. When we left for the airport several days later, early in the morning, we had to do the same thing in reverse. Also, the cleaning staff regularly moved things around the apartment, and I needed to be alert to where my belongings were. Although there is free wi-fi at the hotel, we did not have it at the apartment.
Lastly, do not book transportation to/from the airport through the hotel. We used Rome Cabs to go to the hotel - they were great - they waited for us at the airport and they charged 55 euros for the 4 of us. On the way back, we used the transportation service arranged through the hotel. The price they quoted was 80 euros, and then when we arrived at the airport, the driver told us it was really 90 euros because he had to wait for us at the hotel. This service is obviously gouging riders, and I would not recommend them at all.

All in all, for my next trip to Rome, I think that if I could find another hotel with apartments in the same general area of Rome, I would try that place instead.

Dear Guest,
thank you for writing your feedback on your recent stay at the Hotel Campo de' Fiori. We always appreciate our guests' opinion even when we do not get to meet their needs 100%, your opinion will make us think about how to anticipate them. Usually our service is always rewarded by our guests as you can see from the other reviews posted.
I would like to clear up some points of your comments:
1)As regards to the floor issue: during the long correspondence between you and the Hotel staff, you mentioned that request only on the first e-mail. Your statement is correct, although it deals with only one floor up. We are pleased that you valued the apartment for the space, the furnishing and the cleanness;
2)Luggage: your remark has been considered very seriously, even if we assure that usually this kind service is granted;
3)Cleaning staff moving things: we consider this complaint minimal as the purpose was to tidy up and to please the guest;
4)WiFi: we are currently taking steps;
5)Airport Transfer: as regards to the airport transfer with our luxury car service I can assure you that the fare is correct. With a city taxi, four people, a stroller, four big bags, night service you would have paid the same or even more!

Finally our Hotel is located in the thousand-year-old historical center of Rome, which makes our Hotel the most comfortable to reach all sites. I may say that the little inconveniences occurred during your stay are partly due to particular arrival and departure schedule. However, we are sincerely sorry not to have fully satisfied you and we thank you for the positive remarks you reserved.

Best Regards
The Manager

Hotel Campo De' Fiori is located in a great 'hood - right next to the old square the hotel is named after (which hosts a great market) and surrounded by restaurants, small shops and creperies. In fact right around the corner is a restaurant called Bafetto "2" - great pizzas and gnocchi. Campo De' Fiori is also bang in the middle between the Colosseum and the Vatican City - a 20 minute walk in either direction. The staff were particularly friendly: the cleaning ladies always greet you with a smile and the people behind the reception desk were incredibly helpful - full of advice ranging from restaurants (a great guy called Gabriel recommended Bafetto to us) to walking routes through the city.

But, if anything, go to Campo De' Fiori for the terrace: 360 degree views of Rome. Nice.

Dear guests,
thank you very much for having posted your opinion on your recent stay at the Hotel Campo de' Fiori! In your review you remark the friendliness of our staff, and we really appreciated that as our staff has been trained up to suggest you the right places in Rome where to eat, to go shopping, or simply where to take a nice stroll! We always want to show our guests new paths and secret locations, not only the traditional paths indicated in all touristic guidebooks. When in Rome, do as the Romans do, not just as tourists!! Your kind words reward our efforts and give us the perception we are pointing on the right direction.
We hope to have the opportunity to give you another warm welcome in the Eternal City
Best Regards

We really enjoyed our stay here. The room was larger than expected, the breakfasts were yummy and most of the staff were lovely. There were a few things that we thought were odd. The wine/bottle opener was chained to the counter in the bathroom. We thought this was just strange and it made it literally impossible to open a bottle of wine. The location of the hotel is fun but definitely "touristy". It was in an ideal place to walk to most sights in Rome. Overall we would definitely stay here again. Rome is such a fun city and we literally had some of the best food of our lives here. Make sure to look around Rome and seek out restaurants instead of just going to those recommended by the hotel. We found great little places just by exploring little side streets etc. Enjoy, there is no other city like Rome.

Dear guests,
we always appreciate our guests' feedbacks even when we see that they are not totally positive, as they give us the opportunity to check the quality of our service. Unfortunately on this occasion we cannot treasure some of your advices.
Our terrace boasts a wonderful view of the city and that's why we always suggest our guests to go upstairs to admire one of the best panorama of Rome, sipping a glass of good Italian wine. In order to avoid coming down to the Reception to have a bottle opened, every room has been provided with a bottle-opener. The bottle-opener is located under the sink in the bathroom, tied with a litlle chain. The reason why it is tied with yhis little chain is really simple, as often many guests went off with the bottle-opener as a souvenir of their vacation in Rome.
Campo de' Fiori is an historical area of Rome and for this and many other reasons it attracts a lot of visitors. You cannot state that it is "touristy", that would be really reductive. You cannot book a hotel in New York in central Times Square and complain of tourists! Campo de' Fiori moreover is so central that allows our guests to have close at hand all the secret of this ancient city: that's why it is the best base to discover Rome!
Best regards

I did a lot of accommodation research before my recent stay in Rome and from the time I made my initial booking directly with the hotel they couldn't have been more helpful and efficient.
I actually stayed in the hotel's B1 dependancy. Don't be put off by the graffiti outside - it's everywhere in Rome! It was quaint, spotless, comfortable and had everything you need for a great break - including fresh ground coffee, which was a really nice touch. And you couldn't ask for somewhere more central - Rome's main attractions are virtually on your doorstep!
Do make a point of popping up to the hotel's roof terrace - the views across the Eternal City are amazing.
And finally, I must mention the hotel's reception staff - lovely people and very helpful.
So, don't hesitate - book, stay and enjoy yourselves! I will certainly be returning.

Dear guests,
it was indeed a pleasure reading your review. You made a lot of research and you contacted the Hotel directly to have suggestions for your vacation and to ask more details about the apartment: booking an apartment in the heart of historical Rome means to "live" a real Roman vacation as you did! From your enthusiastic comments we understand that you were totally satisfied with your choice!
Your dependance, B1, is hosted in an ancient house built in 1462, on the foundation of the 54 BC Theatre of Pompey (where Julius Caesar has been assassinated). This house is under protection of the Ministry of Cultural Heritage and for this reason it is still like it was originally: in former times it was a horse stable and the squires lived in the higher floors serving the nearby Orsini Palace, an important Roman lineage. On the external wall of the building you find a fresco portraying the Madonna Del Latte, ispired to the famous painting "Madonna Litta" by Leonardo Da Vinci.
We want our guests to live a vacation as a stream of emotions, that create unforgettable, endless memories.
Hope to see you soon!
Warm Regards

Located in the heart of the city, walking distance to many of the major sites. Room was kept up well, but didn't like no option to open up exterior shutters - so no natural light in room. No Internet access in rooms only in lobby...don't bring wrinkly clothes, only option to iron is dry cleaner around the corner, who was too busy to iron one item.

Dear Guest,

we always appreciate comments on our services as it is the best way to improve them. I suppose you already read all the previous reviews of our other guests, that’s why the contrast between your review and the others surprised us, so I think I should clarify some points of your statements…
1)In many houses of the North of Europe there are no shutters, in the South Europe the houses are provided because of the excess of light sun.
You can decide: open the shutters to have light or not, like with the doors when you need to go into one room…… open or not is your decision!
2) About internet as every kind of electronic staff could happen that work or not anything is possible…… even in New York !
3)About the iron, we want to clarify that Italian law P 1307 of the 14 December 2000 is very strict on this matter and it forbids the use of electrical appliances in the hotels rooms in particular the IRON to prevent fires and protect people’s lives.
When travelling you should be informed about the observances of the countries you visit to avoid any misunderstanding!

Our intent was to stay at a centrally located hotel as we spent five days exploring Rome. The location, comfort, service, and roof top patio made this an ideal place to stay.
