We started our holiday with five nights in this lovely hotel from December 16 to 21. Our room was large and beautiful and the bathroom was huge! That giant bath was just the thing at the end of a long day exploring such a wonderful city. And it was a delight to be greeted each morning in the lovely breakfast room by smiling ladies ready to bring us great coffee to go with the filling breakfast to set us up for the day ahead. Nothing was too much trouble for these people. Mark had hired a motorbike to ride to Amalfi and they were only too happy to give him brilliant directions to help him negotiate the busy morning traffic in Rome and get him on his way. The hotel arranged our pickup from the airport (and a driver back to the airport) and that was brilliant. The drivers were charming, the vehicles clean and comfortable, and it was very reasonably priced. Thank you so much to everyone at Hotel Italia. There’s nothing like the personal touch to make people feel at home – and you all do that so very, very well. We will be back!

I stayed in this hotel last January with my family, and came back this year with girlfriends and a toddler for a long weekend. The hotel is a gem, nothing is too much for the friendly, professional staff, who are available to help with anything, good restaurant tips, a pot of tea late at night, or just a friendly chat in the reception. The hotel is spotlessly clean, the rooms are perfectly adequate with big bathrooms, and the hotel's position is very central. I would strongly recommend using the hotel's pick-up service to and from the airport, worth every penny. Grazie a Sabrina e a lo staff e alla prossima!

We always make it a practice to stay in smaller, family-run hotels in larger European cities. Otherwise, our preference is to stay at B & B's. This was our second trip to Rome. First time (4 years ago) was only 2 days. This time we stayed 6 days starting on 22 December at Hotel Italia in a quad room on the 3rd floor (where they have remodeled rooms that were formerly part of an apartment). The room was comfortable, very clean, with a large beautiful bathroom. We had a small little sitting room with table & chairs overlooking the courtyard area) which was curtained off from the sleeping area. This, alone, made us feel like home - but add to that the wonderful, helpful staff - and you really do want to stay there indefinitely! At the main desk there is Sabrina, who is so very personable and full of helpful suggestions and so very easy to talk to. She made dinner reservations for us on Christmas Eve and Christmas Day (along with Abdul - who also assisted in making reservations when Sabrina was off). The breakfast each morning was so lovely and delicious! We left to go to Sicily for 5 days and returned again to Hotel Italia for 2 more nights before returning home. This time we had a quad room on the main floor - which was just as lovely and clean. The bathroom was smaller, but was just fine for us. As everyone else has already mentioned, the location is perfect, the neighborhood is great with many wonderful places within walking distance to eat. Do be careful of pick-pockets in the subway station during rush hour. We had a very close call - we knew better, but were still feeling jet lag and not thinking straight. However, luckily I caught a women (holding a baby!) just as she was reaching for my husband's pocket. When it's crowded, always go to the first or last subway car - where it is less crowded.

We stayed at Hotel Italia for two nights. The bedroom was large and very comfortable. The bathroom was redone and very clean with good water pressure. Our room was on the inside of the building, not over the street, and therefore very quiet at night. Excellent staff helped with any questions and directions, arranged a ride to the airport for us, and even reminded us about the European Daylight Savings Time change to occur that evening (Thank you, Sabrina!) We were able to purchase our Metro tickets from the front desk, as well as a cold bottle of water (which saved us a walk to the market late in the evening). Good breakfast in their breakfast room staffed by a great waitress. Breakfast included a selection of breads, juice and good coffee and cappuccino. Good location near most of the major sights, and Metro stops were close enough if needed. We really liked this hotel as it was a good value for the money with a friendly and professional staff. If in Rome, we would stay here again.

i chose hotel italia on via venezia as it was recommended by rick steves, and it was an excellent choice. about 10-15 mins walk to termini station, about 5-7 mins to the nearest subway station (republicca) and about 20-25 mins to victor emmanuele. Despar supermarket is on via nazionale, which is just across from via venezia. via nazionale is a busy street with plenty of bus options, plenty of shops and a very good bookstore. if you are there on sundays, check out the free sunday 6.30 pm concerts (paid admissions on certain sundays) at st paul's along via nazionale (about 5 mins walk). watch out for pickpockets in rome/churches/buses/termini.

the hotel is on the 2nd floor, if the door is locked, you have to buzz the intercom so they can unlock the door. if you see the doorman, make sure you say buongiorno or buonasera to him. you take the stairs, or an old fashioned small lift (which brings you the next floor up, so you still have to walk down a floor). across the hotel is a bakery and a trattoria. hotel italia have rooms across the street but they only use that seasonly.

i had a single room #22, which had a door with inner courtyard view. the room is close to a stairwell, so i could hear people going up and down but i was able to tune it out. good heater in the room. breakfast was good with pastries, bread, nutella, pate, juice, cereal, yogurt, milk, hard boiled eggs (sometimes) and ahh.....your choice of cappuccino, latte or tea with a warm smile! they have a book shelf of assorted travel books, they also have a standard tourist map of the city to give out. there is free wifii and a laptop for you to access internet. you have to leave your keys with the receptionist when you leave for the day. i stayed there for 3 days and went to tuscany and then came back to stay for another 4 days, when i came back it felt i was coming home to a surrogate family, sabrina was pleased that i picked up some italian - grazie sabrina, gabriel, andrea, abdul and staff!!!! Buon Natale!

This was our first trip to Rome and not our last. We stayed 10 nights in this charming hotel. The staff made us feel welcomed in this big City. They gave us excellent tips on where to eat and what to do on a rainy day and provided a map with directions to the sights. My husband and I walked every where in Rome the location is perfect and close to all the ancient sights. The breakfast buffet had a great selection of food, our tea was delivered by a very friendly server that made us feel welcomed each morning. It was sad to leave however since I threw coins into the Trevi we will return and we will again stay at the Hotel Italia.
