This is a gem of a hotel - an excellent boutique hotel with personalized friendly service. For us, the best feature was that it was away from the tourist crowds and hustle & bustle of central Rome. It is across from American embassy.

Some highlights include up to date plumbing fixtures with spacious modern shower. The breakfast was outstanding. The only minor negative: no hot water kettle in bedroom.

This guest house is perfect for a weekend away in Rome. Great location, knowledgeable and friendly staff and very comfortable room. The breakfasts were lovely and the staff would help you organise your day if you needed any help. I would highly recommend this place to anyone wishing to visit rome.

We stayed here for one night and we were very impressed with service and cleanliness!! As soon as got there, we were offered a drink and we were able to store our luggage until the room was ready. They offered us the room early which we really appreciated since we arrived from an over night flight. Room and bathroom are very clean and spacious. Breakfast was great, amazing cappuccinos!!! Service was amazing. We were offered a map and great explanations on navigating the city. My only semi negative comment would be the location but this depends on preference. We found it a bit far from the main sights especially because we only stayed one night. It is accessible by walk, city bus, taxi, etc. We chose to walk everywhere and to get to main attractions it’s about 30 minute walk. Overall we were very happy with our stay!

First I should mention that Serena and Marco were very gracious and helpful, as was Julie who greeted us on the first day. The location was great with not too distant walk to the metro. The rooms had excellent AC, which is not always. Given with many Rome hotels. Serena sat down with us the first day and laid out many places to visit although we had planned all of our time fully. It was still nice to hear about other potential places to visit. Restaurant recommendations were welcome (although one didn't pan out very well). My only complaint is that one morning there was no water pressure which dropped down to no water. The other mornings everything was fine.

Breakfast was good but it was the same every day. If we had stayed longer than 3 days we would have gone out for breakfast..

Overall I would recommend this as a unique experience, but it was a one time experience for us.

Two blocks from the Westin Excelsior, between the American Embassy and a Rome police station, there is a seven-story historic building containing law firms, other offices, residences, and the Deko Rome Guest House. Our assumption is that the space was originally a flat or apartment converted into this small hotel.

Three of the rooms face the street and have large windows. We stayed for four nights in Room 5, one of the two rooms across the hall that face an inner courtyard. We were given that room because I stressed when making our reservation that our top priority was quiet, and it was quiet enough to sleep with the window open when the weather was cool. When it was warm we used the air conditioning. I would not recommend Room 6, because it opens directly off the small breakfast area, and the sound of dishes and diners’ voices would be disturbing once breakfast service began at 8:00.

Breakfast was the same each day. There isn't space for a buffet and each guest was served. Breakfast consisted of a bowl of corn flakes, yogurt, and a large plate of sliced fruit, sliced cheese and meat (cold cuts), a roll, butter and jam, and a sweet croissant. Beverages included various juices, milk, tea, and coffee brewed to order.

Our bathroom was modern, the bed was comfortable, and there was adequate space in our bedroom. There is no lounge or common area, other than the breakfast area, and the reception desk is just a few feet inside the entry door. The overall result is that the space feels cramped. We were out much of the day, and we were resting when we were in our room, so the lack of space wasn't a problem, but we missed having a place to relax outside our room.

The distinguishing feature of Deko Rome is that the owners, Marco and Serena, and their employees, Julia who works in the morning and the gentleman who works in the evening, provide their guests with personal attention. Marco spent a long time with us when we arrived, marking a map to show the sights and recommended restaurants within walking distance. He called to make dinner reservations for us. We had booked tours in advance, but I heard Serena arranging tours for other guests. When I asked about a self-service laundromat, Marco offered to take care of our laundry at a reasonable price, not the exorbitant per piece price charged by many hotels. Julia took our clothes to the laundry on her way to the Metro at the end of her shift, and the gentleman who worked in the evening (whose name I never learned) brought it back when he came to work. They were all available to answer our questions and to ensure we had a good visit.

If you would like a grand and elegant hotel, or one with a restaurant and bar, this is not the place for you. If you would prefer a quiet place to call home in one of the safest, most upscale neighborhoods in Rome, where you will receive personal attention from caring hosts, we recommend Deko Rome.

Room Tip: Avoid room 6. Rooms 1-3 face street. Rooms 4 & 5, facing interior courtyard, are quieter
