“Excellent pasta”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 1 October 2012

We came across Trattoria della Stampa as we were looking for a lunch spot in Rome. We originally wanted a quick pizza or salad, but when our server described their pasta dishes we quickly changed our minds. Our appetizer of mozzerella and prosciutto was delicious, and the homemade pasta was excellent and a generous portion. Everything was very fresh, and the atmosphere was charming.

“Authentic, spectacular Roman cuisine”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 12 August 2012

My family and I ( seven people) went to this restaurant because of the good reviews I had read in Tripadvisor. After dinner, they congratulated me for taking them there. This restaurant don´t serve pizza, just pasta. We ordered: spaghetti carbonara with crusty bacon, one spinach ravioli with cheese, tagliatelle with meat (All dishes around 8-9€).

The best choice was the spaghetti carbonara; super tasty and delicious, definitely the best carbonara I´ve ever eaten in my life.
For dessert we ordered the famous homemade tiramisu (5€)...and it was exquisite.

We were seated by the kitchen and we saw it was very clean.

When we finished our meal, we spoke with the owner, who told us the restaurant was founded by her grandfather and has been managed by her family since then.
When we told her that the food was fantastic she answered " In the same kitchen we cook for ourselves is the same kitchen where we cook for the guests, because the food that´s not good for us, is not good for costumers"....so true!!!

It´s a place you MUST go if you are in Rome, you will no regret!!!

“Perhaps our best meal in Rome!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 28 June 2012

We stumbled upon this humble little restaurant on our way to grab another meal at Sacro e Profano, which was unfortunately closed that day (although I highly recommend it as well). After some initial disappointment that our first choice was closed, we looked around to see what our other options were. There was a beautiful place at the front of the street, with a very inviting outdoor area, but it seemed very touristy and a little pricier than what we were hoping for. We ended up wandering into Trattoria della Stampa, which is almost directly across the street from Sacro e Profano. It was outstanding. Yes, the service is brusque, like most Italian restaurants that don't cater solely to tourists. Yes, they don't speak much English, but that's part of the charm ... they're Italian, not American. Anyway, to my understanding, they don't offer everything on the menu every day; they have specials. I ordered the cacio e pepe and my fiance ordered the spaghetti all'amatriciana, which is their specialty. It was amazing. There were several locals eating lunch there and chatting away with the chef, "Momma." Once our food came, we were in heaven. It really was outstanding ... everything was made fresh while you wait ... could hear and smell the steps of preparation from the kitchen. Give it a try if you're in the area ... it is a totally unassuming restaurant that's totally worth it. Prices were about 9-11 euro per primi/pasta plate. At the end of the meal, they gave us a couple of their business card, which made for great souvenirs!

“The Worst Place to Eat in Rome”
1 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 17 June 2012

I normally try to put a positive spin on everything but this place was beyond description and not in a very good way.
We walked in 20 minutes before our reservations and told to "just sit". We asked for a menu to preview and we were told no that that would have to wait until all eight of us showed up. We asked to hear the specials and we were told no, not until all eight showed up because the server was not going to repeat herself.
When we were permitted to order, we had some questions as to how the food was prepared and if we could have a different vegetable. The server, the only one who spoke a little English just left in disgust and ignored us for another 15 minutes. She came back and she told us "no changes" and "No questions". Just order. Again she left in disgust and came back. we just ordered the specials and gave up. Then one of the specials wasn't available so we just ordered anything else.
When it came time to clear our table we were given that look that spoke volumes. We were not welcomed, nor apparently neither was anyone else. We were the only patrons for the first 90 minutes after they opened.
All during our meal the hotel staff SAT at a table just four tables away and argued about something and in very loud voices. Eventually the cook came out of the kitchen to join in the argument.
We have traveled the world and have never been treated so poorly and received so ordinary food.
I suspect there was a reason we were the only ones there for the first 90 minutes after opening. Hopefully the word is getting around that this is a place to avoid at all costs.
I am so sorry for posting my first negative review but i never want to see another person experience what we just went through. i also feel guilty giving this disaster one star; none is more appropriate.

“Great family restaurant”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 21 May 2012 via mobile

The restaurant has been run by the same family for years. A great place for some authentic Italian food. Nothing fancy, but extremely good.
