We started with drinks inside the Hotel d'Inghilterra - a lovely little wood panelled bar with an excellent barman.
We then were shown to our table outside the hotel's restaurant in a quiet side street of central Rome. The tables were elegant and classy (as were the clientele) and there was terrific jazz background music from inside.
Our waiting staff were lovely and helped us choose - we opted for the 47euro, four course tasting menu that was brilliant and fantastic value. Every course was delicious and was meticulously prepared.
If you want an upmarket, high quality meal in classy, atmospheric surroundings without breaking the bank go to the Cafe Romano.
One small downside - there is a sign outside promoting aperitifs at 11euro. We ordered an Aperol Spritz and a Gin and Tonic and while the Aperol was priced accordingly the G&T was charged at 20euro - not an aperitif apparently. The cost was deducted at the end of our meal though so full marks for attending to a cock up.
