“Great family oasis in Rome”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 28 August 2012 via mobile

We stayed for 4 nights Aug 24th-28th, with our two boys aged 10 and 7. The setting and facilities are spectacular - beautiful common areas, pool, restaurants and spa/gym. We we upgraded to superior city view rooms, which were connecting. The rooms are really well designed, and quite spacious. Nice bathrooms, good tv, nespresso machines etc. as you would expect from a 5* resort. We were really impressed on arrival, all the staff were very friendly and super helpful. The Concierge helped us with a Vatican tour, restaurant bookings, taxis and lots of helpful advice. It is a Spanish hotel group, so there are lots of Spanish staff as well as Italian. Everything is very new as they have only been open 5 months. The food was great, although I agree with other comments regarding being charged extra for pancakes or porridge at breakfast. Should all just be one charge - it just feels easier. One criticism was the price of drinks at the pool bar - 22 euros for a glass of champagne ? Maybe in Cala di Volpe that works, or in a 3 Michelin star restaurant, but not here. 12 Euros for a beer? Really? What is odd is that the food and wine list isn't unreasonably priced - 40 Euros for a very nice Bolgheri. 18 Euros for a bottle of prosecco.

Other than this, we loved it. Definitely the go to place for a family - do sightseeing in the morning, and then swim and sunbathe in the afternoon.

We spent 1 night at the Gran Melia Hotel and were booked in a Premium Room, but were upgraded to a Grand Premium Room upon arrival which was a lovely surprise. The room was great with a king size bed and a wonderful bath tub with a separate shower. The bathroom amenities were Clarins which was lovely, and when I called down to the front desk to ask for conditioner, housekeeping came within 2 minutes with more supplies – just enough time for me to re-read the bottles correctly and find the conditioner was already there!
We explored the hotel immediately and had drinks and a dip at the pool which was delightful – no sign of any pigeons - followed by lunch on the terrace. The menu didn’t have any vegetarian or vegan options, but the waiter took down my request for a custom vegan sandwich without hesitation, and my travel partner ordered the tuna burger – both of which were delicious!
We then went onto the spa and were offered a quick tour where the facilities were explained – the aromatherapy shower, Scottish shower (hot and cold jets!) steam room and sauna with incredible light therapy details, and an outdoor Jacuzzi tub in the spa courtyard area. Everything was easy to use and beautifully clean with a very attentive team to make sure we were hydrated and happy.
Back in the room, we were surprised by a delicious chilled bottle of Champagne and a large fresh fruit plate with a variety of options. There were a few drops of rain that made us take the umbrella provided in the room and also an additional one provided downstairs, while we took off down the street towards Piazza Navona, the Pantheon, Piazza Venezia, The Forum and the Colosseum – all within walking distance from the hotel including the Vatican which we didn’t have the time for.
By the time we were on our way back to the hotel we were starving and stopped off for dinner at a local restaurant, missing out on our only opportunity to dine at the hotel which is my only regret. The room had been turned down and rose petals sprinkled by the slippers at each side of the bed which was a lovely touch and a subtle reminder of the red glove / hand on heart theme that characterizes their passion for service.
Breakfast the following morning was quick before our early departure, but we were warmly greeted and served tea/coffee quickly and I was delighted to find that they also offered a soy milk alternative. The continental breakfast spread was great with good options and also the choice for a la carte too.
The property is very central and surrounded by the ancient walls and a glimpse of the Vatican, yet a classically modern hideaway with a warm team of staff and excellent facilities. There’s no reason to stay anywhere else.

Located on Gianicolo, 10 minutes walk to Trastevere, Vaticano, Castel Sant Angelo and Via Emmanuel II, it is the perfect place to have a quiet rest after long visits throughout the city.
Enjoy the very nice and sunny swimming pool in a beautiful garden, and you can even see the Castel Sant Angelo while in the jacuzzi !
Deco is modern and arty. For sure I'll come back soon.

Room Tip: some of the rooms open on a very but narrow street. So ask for an upper floor (5 or 6).

Stayed in this beautiful hotel for six nights.A true paradise in the madness and heat of the city. All of the staff was very good, especially the consierge. Allesandra was of great help to our trip, always smiley and ready to help.A big thanks is a must ,she has made us feel like home.
The room was clean and efficiently spacious for Rome.Very good pool area.

Room Tip: Choose premium city view room only if it is on the 5th floor and onwards. The view from the 4th floo...

We stayed for 5 nights and were extremely impressed with this beautiful hotel. The facilities were outstanding everywhere. The room was fabulous, with a comfortable bed, a stunning shower, and excellent decor. The pool area and other environs were spacious and elegant, and indoor air conditioning made it perfectly cool after the heat of the city. The service was stellar, seriously second to none. The breakfast was a little disappointing, and after one morning we never had it again. The bar prices were steep even for a 5 star hotel. The most I have paid for a glass of wine anywhere in the world, although beautifully served with nibbles and amuse bouche. Overall though I would highly recommend this awesome oasis of beauty, calm and opulence in a hot, busy city. We would absolutely return without hesitation, and would very highly recommend it for people looking for a luxurious stay in an incredible city.

This newly renovated convent turned resort is absolutly beautiful! Nothing was spared in the design of this hotel..from the amazing poolside seating to the rooms unique designs. The rosepetal and slippers at bed and the Nespresso makers in the rooms. The beds are so huge and comfortable. Your walk to the Vatican is no more than 5 mins and the Trastevere area is only a 15 minute walk!
The only real down fall we found was the expense of the resturant and poolside drinks. Go out for dinner! Breakfast was fine as is the poolside food for lunch. Drinks are very expensive (22e's for a glass of champagne). One night my husband ordered the main course special ravioli and only 3 were on the plate!! One thing to note we had 1 in our party that was in a wheelchair so we had limited access as to where we could eat due to no taxis....Go out!

Room Tip: Higher floors for better views of Rome!

Excellent location (very close to the Vatican, about 4km to the Vatican), outstanding staff - everyone from the bellboy to the consierge. The hotel itself is vey clean and tidy. The room was large enough, the bed is very comfortable. Overall the hotel is a very strong five star facility. The SPA was quite good and relaxing. Not a lot of Russians:)
However, you should be beware of the laundry service (I sincerely hope that they do not do it onsite and outsource it, otherwise this would effect my overall impression of the hotel) - my wife gave a few items and most of them were ruined (shrank and got holes). The breakfast is ok, but it is a bit strange when you get charged extra for an omlet, pancakes or porridges (I got used to it being included in the overall price of the breakfast). The WiFi is a bit slow.
Overall I had a good experience which was a bit ruined by some of the facilities.
