We stayed here for four nights in November and it was wonderful. The decor is a gorgeous mix of modern and some classic elements (like the paintings on the headboard). The service was very five star and it is just next to the Vatican. The rest of the sites are a five minute taxi ride or thirty minute walk. The only thing that is true from the negative reviews is the high price for food, drinks, spa etc but what can you do? It's rome and its a five star hotel.... We just had coffee in the morning and drinks one night and the rest of the meals ate out. Make sure to hang out in the beautiful spa (included in the price) and ask for a room with a BATH while booking! Not all rooms in the same category have the same layout. Our first room had a big closet and small shower and we switched to a room with no closet space but a huge bath and shower area. I would stay here again if I go back to rome and would not even bother trying another hotel.

Surprisingly well located (nearby the walls of Vatican City, 10 mins away by walk of Saint Peter's square and 25 mins walk away from the heart of Rome). Modern, elegant, fashionable, very comfortable, easy and with a great service. All the team is young, very professional and willing to please the guest. Not just because the hotel is new and they have to 'earn their way up' but also, and very specially, because all the team is committed to deliver the highest standards of service of the Melia chain. And they live to it! Rocío (Deputy Director) and Fernando are just fabulous! Kind, gentle, accessible, fun! Great professionals and extremely nice people. The food was great (the kitchen is run by Alfosno Iaccorino, one of the most reputed italian chefs), the building impressive (Villa Agrippina, Nero's mother residence), the room comfortable... But by far, the service was the best of it all. Highly recomendable. We will come back.

Repetiremos.

My wife and I had the pleasure of staying here for a few nights as part of our honeymoon, and were extremely happy with the experience. It is a few minute walk from the Vatican, piazza Nuvona, and great restaurants. The room was very modern and chic, and the staff were extremely accommodating and helpful to us throughout our stay. Highly suggest the breakfast they serve daily. Overall I highly recommend this hotel to anyone traveling to Rome looking for first class accommodations

The Gran Melia Rome is an excellent hotel: close to the center, but in a very quiet part of the city. The hotel has a nice garden with swimming pool and jacuzzi. Breakfast, lunch and dinner can be taken outside. Quality of the rooms, food, garden and pool is terrific, never seen such a perfect place ! If we go back to Rome, we will go back to the Gran Melia.

Having stayed here 2 nights, I have to say the Gran Melia did not meet expectations.
When arriving we received a tour of the hotel which seems had only one intention - to advertise the facilities not included with your room package.
The hotel is beautiful and the rooms were modern. We were pleased with the pool area which is a bonus for the city location, although heading back one evening after a storm we were disappointed the outside bar which was undercover had not opened.
Location wise the hotel is very close to the Vatican. The main entrance is located up a hill, away from the other tourist attractions in Rome. If you are planning on venturing further and returning by taxi I would recommend writing down the full address of the hotel as no taxi drivers knew where it was, but instead drove around Rome aimlessly with every intention of ripping you off.
When booking in we were informed we had received a room upgrade with breakfast and were quickly shown where it would be served, yet when checking out they were quick to try and charge 72€ for a couple of croissants! Also the pool bar and the mini bar were extremely expensive, paying a premium is to be expected in Rome, however I never expect to be charged 8€ for a glass of coke!
All in all it we enjoyed our trip to Rome, but wished we'd chosen a different hotel. If you have no budget or concept of money, then you will enjoy the Gran Melia Hotel

Dear Guest,

thank you for the time you spent in sharing your opinions about your recent stay at Gran Meliá Rome Villa Agrippina.

We are really sorry to learn about your discontent as to your stay overall, as what we aim to is to turn each guest's stay into pleasant moments.
That is why, at arrival, we always propose our guests to be toured around the Hotel: firstly to show the facilities and better explain our services, and than to involve them into the "history" of our ancient structure through its storytelling.
We simply aim to give a complete information about the services to take advantage of during the stay, and give the chance to live a true experience.
Really wish to express my regret if you perceived it differently, as it was not our intent.

I am also sorry if you considered our location not to be suitable for your needs, as our Urban Resort is placed at the beginning of one of the most famous and attractive hills of the city, Janiculum, and it is at walking distance from the Vatican and other famous attractions like Piazza Navona, Campo dei Fiori, Panteon and Trastevere.

We all wish you to decide to come back and choose Gran Meliá Rome again in the future to give us the possibility of showing you the service quality we always try to provide and which our guests are generally very pleased with.

Thank you for your attention.

Best Regards,

Maria Ansalone

A new and impressive hotel in between the Vatican and Castello St Angelo with a marvelous pool which is not usual in the city. Quite expensive , particularly if you sit in the garden for drinks etc. , but not unexpected.
What impressed me most was just how quiet the well appointed room was ; I believe the building used to be a convent so has very substantial walls ; this coupled with excellent glazing and aircon do the trick. More surprising when you walk outside and are surrounded by the usual Roman traffic mayhem.
We didn't eat there being so close to hundreds of restaurants just across the bridge so can't comment too much on the food , breakfasts were excellent however.

Spa stuff was good too , apparently.

All around , very good indeed.

Room Tip: Rooms at the back probably quiter?

We found the hotel using Tripadvisor. It is a new 5-star property in Rome, close to Vatican city but outside of the historical city (5-10 minute taxi ride away). The hotel is very siimilar to a slightly more casual 4.5 star US hotel. We had no complaints. The room rates were equal to several lower star but more established hotels in Rome.

The hotel staff was extremely pleasant and the hotel facilities and room were wonderful. Our initial room assignment was a bit small for a party of 3 - and they quickly moved us to a more spacious room when we notified them of this. After that there really were no issues. The hotel looks just like the pictures on their website.
