“Disappointed in the end!”
Reviewed 21 March 2013 via mobile

When actually stayed in Rome in February when the pope resigned not intentionally.
This might be a little long but worth taking into consideration.
When we first arrived at the hotel we was very impressed and escorted in to a lovely lobby/ reception. The reception staff was very helpful, nice and polite as well as giving is a tour before showing us our room.
We booked a double delux room and was disappointed when we got there. The room was tiny and the smallest one out of all the rooms. At £749 for 4 nights we expected more!
We was told it would be the quiet room and one of the best. It was the worst as the view was mainly of the restaurant 1st them a part of the pool garden. The room also faced the staff steaming and re-stocking cupboard, so we heard them several times through the morning or evening!
Worst of all the sliding wardrobes that was space saving kept coming off the hundred and maintenance had to be called several times, eventually we decided to hold one sliding door open with our case so that we could prevent it coming off its track.

Breakfast should have been not bad. But staff turned their noses up at us. ( we are a young couple in our thirties)
The man did not want to seat is, then ignored us and did not want to serve us our coffee and tea. I had to ask the following morning at reception what was included in our breakfast! As the previos morning we was refused eggs, croissant and hot drinks!
But each of our mornings the same man who looked after the breakfast service refused to serve us. ( not sure whether being oriental and a young couple was the reason as that was the only thing that we could see that set us out different from the other guest)

The hotel is excellent for location and convenience around Rome, especially if you want to be close to the Vatican.
The main restaurant needed booking in advance or there was no seats.
The 2nd restaurant was rubbish and you couldn't have a full meal there, more like a snack of burger, salads and sandwiches but very over priced, which also explained why no one ate there.

The bonus was the spa was lovely. Too cold to use the outdoor pool, but juccuzi was bearable. The tropical rain showers are a must try.

Overall we could deal with waldrobe doors and some noise. But bad staff attitude in the restaurant really annoyed us. Especially if you have to eat there each morning!

It's like there are 2 sets of staff and receptionist were great all the time. Restaurants staff all had attitudes, they were happy serving all the news reporters that were staying there for the popes speech, ignoring us once was bad but our whole stay! Really disappointing!

I can say that service in this villa just excellent! Very nice staff with excellent English, always ready to help and are very attentive. Just have some advise: to book on the high floors- than it'll be a very nice view on Vatican. I guess is one of the best places in Rome, in it location, view, service!!!

We stayed at the Hotel for three nights having booked through British Airways. On arrival we were informed that we had been upgraded to a "Loft Suite" with Red Level Service. The staff speak excellent English and we were given a tour of all the facilities by Allesandra. The hotel is in a quiet area of Rome about five minutes walk from the Vatican. It is a former nunnery which has been restored. It is stylish and modern. We have stayed in various five star hotels - Waldorfs, Hyatt, Conrads etc and this property is the best that we have stayed in. Their customer service was second to none with nothing being too much trouble. The staff are the greatest asset of the Hotel.

There are several restaurants one of which has a rating of two michelin stars. However the food all came from the same kitchen and we ate in the "Nectar" restaurant and we could not fault the presentation and the quality of the food. For the standard of the property we thought the prices were quite reasonable. This is an upscale property in the heart of one of the main tourist cities in the world and while not the cheapest we did not feel that we had paid too much. Their staffing levels are very high - attentive but discreet. We had breakfast each morning - included in the rate. It takes the form of a breakfast buffet of pastries, fresh bread, breakfast meats, cheeses, fruit plus you could order freshly cooked eggs (any style), bacon and pancakes. The coffee was fabulous and freshly made.

The Hotel is within walking distance of the main sights but due to rain we did use some taxis called by reception and which arrived within minutes. The highest fare we paid was 11 euros up to the Spanish Steps. The Hotel also has a free shuttle which goes to the main shopping areas. We found the taxis to be efficient and the drivers used their local knowledge taking us down cobbled streets and back alleys meaning that we saw the sights close up.

We would particulary like to thank the following members of staff - Allesandra, Antonella and Francesco, Luigi , Daniele and Chiara. This was our first time in Rome but we will be back.

I stayed at the Gran Melia for a business seminar. The hotel is great but the surroundings are crap. Exiting the gate you feel like in the suburbs of Brussels. Not a single shop to buy drinks or have lunch, apart from the Childrens hospital lefturn around the corner uphill having a snackshop.
Off course the hotel offers anything you want in the restaurant and cafetaria but i always have the habit going to shop for some drinks and food as minibars are always way overpriced.

The front desk is friendly and very good eloquent in english, seldom found in Italy. Breakfast is ok but lacking some basic bread stuff like croissants and french bread. Italian food is always a bit peculiar but in an international hotel you should get international buffets, not the case here.

The rooms are specious but not for prude Americans, as the bathroom is all open only separated from the room by a large clear glass. All OK if you fancy your GF getting showered, but I can imagine the horror for your teenage daughter... They did put a pull down screen that masks most of the body parts :-)
There is a coffee nespresso machine but no Tea, very rude towards English guests. And there are NO wall outlets for laptops and phones to be charged, had to dismantle the distribution panel on the back of the TV to get power for my PC on the desk. Dumb architect...

I also visited the Spa, I was the only guest, great service, no annoying questions on massages, just one remark: the sauna is ridiculously small for a YHI complex, as you can even not ly down with two. Outdoor bubble bath is refreshing, Steam bath is overwhelming and can hold like a full coach population.

Staff was extremely friendly, always greeting by putting their hands on their chests, quite funny.

Will go back, but keep in mind you need some transport to get downtown the city...

Dear Guest,

thank you for choosing Gran Meliá Rome Villa Agrippina for your stay in Rome and for the time you spent in sharing your opinions about this experience.

We are gald that you had a pleasant stay, appreciating our facilities and, above all, our staff professionalism.

We are surprised to learn that you did not enjoy the surrondings, as our Luxury Urban Resort is located at the beginning of the most suggesting hills of the city, the Janiculum, where you can experience the most amazing view of the Eternal City...

Moreover, getting out the Hotel, you face the opportunity of choosing different sites to visit or ways to walk. The Hotel is, in fact ,at 10 minutes walking distance from the famous area called Trastevere, which is full of typical Italian Restaurant, bars and pubs; you can easly reach Piazza Navona's area by crossing the bridge down the hill or getting to the Vatican just crossing the square next to the bridge.

We wish you to have the chance of coming back soon to better and fully enjoy all this.

We remain at your complete disposal and look forward to receiving you back to make your journey an unforgettable experience...

Kindest Regards,

Maria Ansalone

We spent a long weekend in Rome, and highly recommend this hotel. We were thoroughly looked after by Fernando in Reception for Red Level guests and indeed all the staff were so friendly, professional and helpful.
We had upgraded our room and really enjoyed those extra special touches you get with Red Level.
Thank you to everyone who helped make our stay so perfect, and especially Gaetano in the Bar - you have to try a Marechiaro Cocktail, they are lovely!
Breakfast was just a beautiful experience, and included eggs and bacon, omelettes etc not something you expect on the continent. I still cant get over my organza tea bag !
We cant wait to return.

Room Tip: We had a loft junior suite which had a stunning view of Rome from the mezzanine floor lounge, and vi...

We just returned from a 3 night break, the hotel is lovely and the staff very efficient and friendly
in particular Sarah on reception and Ciro in the bar.
We Stayed with our 7 year old son. they had no children's menu so we ordered room service for our son and paid 17 Euros for a plain plate of pasta with butter and cheese !
The food was very over priced in our opinion.
But everything else was well catered for. They had a false evacuation alarm around 12.30am and all guests had to evacuate. We were all a bit bewildered and concerned and it took some time before we were informed that it was a false alarm. It would have been a nice gesture to the guests to offer something the next day for the inconvenience.
