“Great Rome experience”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 31 July 2013

Our family (two adults and two boys) stayed in a Red Level Junior Suite for 6 nights recently. We thoroughly enjoyed it. The Gran Melia in Rome has most things you could reasonably want. Close to most sights in the city (we walked most places, but if you want to take a taxi anywhere it's less than €10) it has the advantage of a great pool - after a day of sight-seeing, and afternoon swim was really refreshing.

Rooms are stylish and modern - according to some reviews, maybe they are not to everyone's taste but we thought they were fine. The staff were unfailingly polite and courteous. The Red Level benefits added a nice touch - some extra breakfast choices and an evening bar free of charge were things we made good use of. Wifi was free (as it should be!) although not always 100% reliable - OK for reading the news, but perhaps not so good if you have to stay connected to the office all the time.

The Gran Melia is not cheap, but if you can afford a little extra it is worth it. The entire family agreed they would very readily stay here again.

After a day sightseeing, etc., the pure pleasure in walking through the gates to the hotel...with a wonderful garden around and the pool to one side (how many Rome hotels within a mile of St Peter's have that?) was great. A cool (as in not hot) building after 30+ degree heat was perfect.

Yes, it is silly expensive for drinks, etc,, some of the room amenities could be improved and our first room was small and dark but they were quick to change it . It is up a hill to walk to and it is not next door to everything....but is that not the sort of thing that you check out before you book?

However, the staff were uniformly great( mention to Samuel), nothing was a problem, the new room comfortable, roomy (sorry!), with a great view. The pool was a godsend.

The best test is that when I think of Gran Melia Rome, I have a smile and happy memories

Room Tip: Fllor 5 room was good

The staff was very very friendly, especially Maria the service manager, the waitresses at braekfast, the cleaning ladies and the doormen. The interieur was amazing. The rooms were very clean. Lovely pool. . The restaurant at the hotel is excellent. At the birthday of my son, we were suprised by a birhtdaycake and champagne.

I'm not a regular review writer but after reading some of the negative ones posted in the last few days i felt the need to mention how amazing our experience was and wonder were these people staying at the same hotel.
The venue is stunning and the customer service was fantastic.
Yes it is expensive but you don't mind paying it when the experience is close to perfect.
We ate in thei gourmet restaurant on the evening of our 10th Wedding anniversary and cam only describe the food, atmosphere and service as the best we have ever experienced.
The hotel us 5 minutes walk from all of the open top bus tour routes so getting around is very easy.
The staff are very helpful and all of their suggestings were spot on with regards to the best places to visit.
The wi fi was poor but so what,we went to Rome for a romantic weekend, not to spend it on the internet.
All in all a great weekend and stunning venue

A total bust. Our room was the size of a postage stamp. The food was on;y fair and the common areas cold and uninviting. No functional wi fi. The location was close to the Vatican which was a plus but this property is not worth a second look. On the positive side the staff was attentive and eager to please. Unfortunately, their professionalism is not enough to make this hotel worth a try.

Dear Guest,

while thanking you for the time you spent for your review, I wish to express my regret for the discontent you transmit.

It is really a shame that, besides the warm attitude and professionalism of our staff which you mentioned, you could not fully enjoy your experience at Gran Meliá Rome Villa Agrippina, probably not finding our property and service to meet your expectations.

Of course, we would be very pleased to welcome you back should you change your mind and consider a second look and try...
