A team of art historians, archaeologists and architects have uncovered and 'brought to life' these archaeological excavations of a couple of 'well to do' ancient Roman homes They are beneath the Palazzo Valentini, and wonderful to see. The mosaics are beautiful. They use light and 3D to show how these residences would have looked back in the day. You walk above the ruins on a plexiglass floor(which takes a few minutes to get used to). Tours are small in size and the guides are knowledgeable, although most information is coming from sound systems. Very, very interesting. Book online from home, then pick up your tickets a few minutes ahead at the Provincia di Roma complex on Via IV Novembre, which is where the tour is.

Great tour. Really got the feel of how the wealthy ancient Romans lived. The plexi glass floor was a little intimidating and you had a feeling if you stepped off the supports you'd fall thru. Tour group is relatively small, so you have an opportunity to ask questions.

The place may not be that crowded like the other places in the country but what makes it difficult to access is the fact that the tour is conducted in seven different languages and various set of time so if you need to be at the right time and with the right language slot then the tickets had to pre booked and also to avoid a rude front desk altogether. Nevertheless no matter how hard you have to make it to the place, it is totally worth the experience. It is not your usual museum but an amazing walk through the ruins of an actual roman house from old times set In the underground of Domus Romane. The tour is actually like an aerial view of an ancient house while walking through the glass floors. I did had to get accustomed to walking on this glass with comfort and not losing focus. The display and visual guides are amazing and you get to live the roman era out of the pages of the history books.

On our Top 10 memorable sights in Rome. The multimedia presentation of the history of the Roman House and the civilization at the time are outstanding. The computer controlled projections and audio-visual effects recreating how the home and opulent surroundings looked thousands of years ago are breathtaking. The ruins and artifacts are extremely interesting, and the close up private view of Trajan's Column was a real treat. Highly recommended tour -- you must make reservations!

Great idea and fascinating and one of the best things we saw in Rome - proper insight into the past. Definitely need to prebook - won't go into too much detail so not to spoil the surprise but for 12 Euro's, extremely good value for money. GO!
