“LA CANTINOLA - A HEDONIST DELIGHT - Every Item on the Menu a Treasure.”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 29 July 2013

Up the road from Barberini Square is a wonderful family run restaurant which serves the most amazing food. The owner and his wife are assisted by 2 waiters who share their enthusiasm for food and good service.
The small restaurant has 4 tables for outdoor dinning. and about 25 tables inside. The lunch crowd consisted of local businessmen and the evening crowd consisted of locals who knew exactly where to find the best food in the area and a few tourist. When you arrive the waiter brings you a bread basket and a plate of a variety of delicious olives. In addition to the fantastic items on the menu, in the evening they have outstanding fresh seafood specials. The spaghetti with vongole was divine. They use high quality olive oil, fresh herbs and garlic to prepare an incredible meal. Even the fresh squeezed orange juice was exceptional. The food was so good that I had lunch and dinner there for at least four days during my recent stay in Rome. Be sure to get there by 7pm when they open for dinner, for by 8:30 it starts to get crowded with the locals. After the second day, it was as if I was eating with family members. The owner and his wife greet you as if you were long lost family members and gave you suggestions to try things that were not on the menu. Try the fresh fried fish platter. The owner and his wife circulate the dinning area making sure that all their customers are satisfied with the food and service. They have fresh fruit for desert and some amazing biscotti.

I can't even begin to describe the experience. It was so good it cannot be described. You just have to go there to experience the warmth of service and of course great food. The owner made us feel right st home with genuine warmth.
Great value for money, We will visit this place every time we visit rome. It has made its place in our memory and travelog.

“Interesting”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 16 June 2013

Stumbled across this restaurant while out walking in the evening; charming interior, very odd staff. The food, while very good, is normally extreamly hot or stone cold. They seem to be unable to create food at edible and consistant temperatures. We have visited this place twice now apporximately a year or so apart, and it was almost as if we never left! Generally worth a visit for the varied menu and excellent house wine.

“A taste of non-touristy side of Rome”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 22 May 2013

A recommendation from the staff of my hotel, I decided to try this restaurant. I was skeptical at first w/ the tacky refrigerator/cooler in front of the place that looks like a NYC deli. The service was spot on, very friendly owners and the food was so delicious. Try the spaghetti bolognese, more like "pasta heaven" for me... The red snapper was so tasty.. yum.. Be careful w/ their excellent house wine - sweet taste like a grapefruit but oh boy will get you drunk.... The restaurant is small in size, family-owned establishment w/ one waiter, one bus boy, and the owner trying to accommodate all the guests. The place gets busy after 8pm, mostly locals from the neighborhood so I always try to come in around 6-7pm for dinner to avoid crowds.

Pro: delicious food! non-touristy side of Rome, cheaper price compared to other tourist trap restaurants

Con: the service tends to be slower during busy hours
