“Value for money and friendly staff”
Reviewed 29 August 2014

We stayed here as we got a good deal and we came for a wedding so location was convenient. I was impressed with the room and reception staff who were really friendly.
I agree with previous review regarding cleaners who would still disturb you despite the do not disturb sign.
Breakfast was good and waiters were fabulous. One day we were late for breakfast and most things were packed away but they still got us everything we wanted.
Overall a good hotel and i would come back here.

Our stay here was interesting. (See the last paragraphs for the negative side of our experience). We booked on Hotwire, so we weren't sure what we were going to get. The hotel is in a lower-middle-class residential neighborhood. One nice thing for us was that there's an inexpensive grocery store less than a 10 minute walk away (if you shop there, make sure to bring bags, and weigh and label your produce - things we learned the hard way. And don't expect anyone to know any English).

The hotel room was more spacious than any other European hotel we stayed at, and the decor/furniture was marginally better than 2 star hotels we experienced in Europe.

The pool is only open in the summer (we were there in May so it was closed), and there is no on site laundry (as some websites are promising it has), it only has a very expensive laundry service.

The lock mechanism for our door had some trouble working (they're battery operated), and we asked for it to be fixed. The fellow that came to look at it was extremely helpful and friendly, and did a great job fixing it.

The beds were extremely hard and uncomfortable. The hotel shows its age on the scraped and dented walls, furniture, and fixtures.

We're not an upper class couple, and we don't believe in dressing up, so we just wear shorts or jeans and t-shirts most of the time. This may be the reason that the main front desk agent treated us poorly, but I can't say for sure. He was more friendly to well dressed people, and was very short and rushed with my wife and I. He had fair skin, was probably early 30's, had a bit of a pointed nose, shaved head, and usually had an intense look on his face, and tried very hard to be professional.

Our biggest issue (because of the high petty theft crime rate in Rome) was that every time we put our "Do Not Disturb" hangar on our door when we went out for the day, the cleaners would still clean our room. We mentioned this to the same front desk agent, and he essentially blamed us, and said it was our fault for not putting the sign up (he didn't believe that we did). We asked if he could leave a note to make sure the staff don't enter our room again, and he refused, saying that if we just put the sign up there won't be a problem. The next day the same thing happened again. We told the front desk agent who was on the next morning how disappointed we were, and thankfully it was not the same guy, so he was very apologetic.

Overall, we would never stay at this hotel again, and wouldn't recommend it to anyone. But it wasn't the worst stay ever. Our expectations were that it would live ip to its star rating, but it fell extremely short in many areas.

Dear Guest,
I’m sorry but I don’t agree with your review, the hotel is a good quality hotel for the standard in Rome, definitely a 4 stars.
It’s written nowhere that we have onsite laundry, we only have dry cleaning.
I’m sorry that there was some problems with the door lock.
Our Staff don’t judge and give different service and smile to Guests based on their dress, we all treat our Guests the best we can, so I’m sure it was only a wrong impression.
I’m also very sorry there was issue with the not disturb sign, we are investigating on this matter.
I’m sorry you feel like your stay it was terrible … even if there were some issue … I see that there were also many more positive things maybe to consider more …
Thank you very much for staying at the Grand Hotel Tiberio and for your review.
We truly appreciate your feedback.
Warmest Regards,

We booked this hotel as the hotel was able to accommodate 6 of us, 4 of whom were children. The staff were very nice and very helpful. The shuttle driver was very friendly. The free breakfast was good and so filling. We loved our room, it was so spacious and clean and if we ran out of anything the staff were very quick to respond to our requests. We had no problems using wifi as well. I would highly recommend this hotel for larger families. The only drawback is the pool was a bit small, but still ok, however it closed too early on most nights and was closed if it rained and the other drawback was the shuttle service dropped up off near the Vatican and Courts but not downtown Rome and the shuttle pick up time was usually between 6-7 so was not very helpful if you wanted to stay in Rome later. However I recommend being dropped off at the court and walking to where the Hop on Hop off buses are....(It's about a 10 min walk)...Highly recommend hop on hop off.
The other thing I liked about hotel is there is a wonderful pizzeria close to hotel as well as Gelato place...we went there everyday...so good!!! Also there is a bus station very close to hotel so on our late evenings when shuttle was not avail, we came back by bus.
I would definitely recommend this hotel. We had a wonderful week here in July 2014 for 5 night. We visiting from Canada and left with wonderful memories.

Attentive staff, but beware of reservations made through their website! I put coworkers up at this hotel; did not stay myself. Coworkers who stayed enjoyed had a good time.

I made reservation through the website and then needed to change them...which cannot be done online. Through many emails, the reservations were changed and I received revised confirmations. Despite these confirmations I was notified of a "no show" and charged a cancellation fee, on top of a room deposit. I have the email from their Staff saying the room was cancelled weeks before arrival, and yet, we were charged. We will book anywhere else next time.

Dear Mrs. Barbara,
First time I read a review like this …
If you can send me the correspondence and the charge you blame it was not due I will be very happy to investigate and check if the charge was due or not due and refund you if you are right.
But for sure the title of your review is misleading … the charges always match the reservations in hour Hotel, you have in issue because you thing that you got charged for a penalty that it was not due, it is a big difference.
Anyway if you make the reservation on our website, as on any other website, you can cancel and amend the reservation free of charge just following the information you have on your email confirmation, our Guests do it all the time and nobody has ever had problems.
Best Regards
Angelo

The staff was very accommodating when we had a concern or question. There is a free shuttle from the hotel to the Vatican or city centre. There was a free hot continental breakfast with everything you could think of (the bacon looked a little weird, but everyone else was eating piles of it)
Great hotel for the price, since we got it off Hotwire we didn't know what to expect. Very pleased!

Stayed here and despite some negative reviews on here it was a good enjoyable stay
So heres my review
The hotel does warrant a 4* status , my room 508 on the top floor had the biggest bed ive ever slept in , it had a nice terrace , safe if needed , nice bathroom etc etc basically everything was good and quality fixtures and fittings all round , there is a 3€ per person city tax per night to pay when you check out so be aware of that , the breakfast was suitable with a good range of items and nothing was rushed and no people pushing in , makes a change ;-)
Air con is throughout but it seem to be turned off in the early hours so the room warmed up abit but I opened the balcony door and all was ok
Location
Ok travelling from the airport I went via coach/metro and walked the last part of the journey ( mistake) it was to hot to walk up hill
It a 20plus walk to the nearest metro (cipro) from the metro you can get anywhere , the walk is tough if its to hot , you can catch a bus just outside , but by foot and metro you can get to the center of rome in about 45mins , there are plenty of local family type restaurants in the area and a slow 20min walk will get you to most
Oh a massive plus is the hotel shuttle bus , it takes you to either the vatican or a central spot , you must book it though but its massively handy , when you factor in the summer heat and crowds sometimes a taxi is best , we decided to taxi back to the airport but beware from the hotel its €65 each way but if you get a taxi from the city centre its €30 which is exceptional value , so I got the hotel shuttle to the centre and jumped in a taxi from the
The metro is easy ..use it and you can get anywhere for €1.50 per journey , some of the big attractions are free certain sundays so check that out , other than that and finally , the hotel is really nice , staff good , location a little far but ok and its a quiet residential area which is a plus too
