This hostel is one of the best ive stayed in so far. I felt right at home. My single room was clean and spacious. Breakfast was great and the bean bags are a comfy place to relax. The staff were very helpfull. Id love to come again. Thanks so much!

Wonderful hostel! Big room, very clean and nice staff! Really easy to reach from the station and to all the others sightseeing! International atmosphere and right price for Rome, especially for this period!

Overall I would highly recommend this hostel! I stayed for 4 nights and this was the end of a month long trip in Europe. It was definitely one of the better hostels I stayed at in Europe
- location is great: about a 10 minute walk from termini station and close to all the main attractions like the Spanish steps (10 minutes away)
- the American embassy is right next door so there are lots of plains clothes officers around and the area is safe even at night
- the closest metro station is barbereni (2 stops from termini). The rome metro system isn't very good, there is only two lines so I think it is still faster to walk to the colusseum (20 minutes) than to walk to barbereni and then switch lines at termini
- the hostel is actually located on the third floor of the building so when you walk in the main big doors and look around you won't see any signage. Take the stairs on your right and walk up to the third floor where you will see the doors to the hostel
- just a reminder that you need €10 cash for a key deposit. You also need to pay €2 per person per night tourist tax but that can be added to your bill for the room and paid by credit card
- hostel is nice and quiet, no major noise at night
- rooms are very big! I stayed in room 3 on the main floor. This was a 4 person room but I think it must have originally been for 8 as there are 8 lockers and only 4 beds (lots of room!)
- plugs for every bed and wifi was easily accessible throughout the hostel and in your room
- private bathrooms that are cleaned daily. The shower is a bit cramped but the water pressure was the best of all hostels I stayed in! Extra bonus was a towel heater that I used to help dry some laundry I did in the sink as there are no laundry facilities on site
- breakfast is provided but is very basic just toast, cereal, and juice. Still can't complain since it's free!
- kitchen itself was very nice with a stove, oven, and microwave, everything you would need to cook for yourself
- staff were very friendly and always willing to help!
- grocery store (despar) is very close. When leaving the hostel turn right take your first right and then your first left, basically walking around the American embassy and then you will hit the despar supermarket (you'll see the tree logo hanging above the door)

Stayed in the 1st floor mixed dorm for one night in July. The staff were fantastic. Very friendly and super helpful. Make sure you take a copy of the directions with you so you can find it (even with the directions I got a bit lost). It is centrally located and a great base to explore the sights of Rome.
I would definitely go back and stay here again.

Room Tip: Stayed on the 1st floor and it was great, A/C worked well. It is very bright on the street (there is...

If you are looking for a quiet place to stay while visiting la città eterna, this might be the right pick. It is not a party hostel, so if you want at all costs to meet people for partying try somewhere else.
Staff 5/5: super friendly and helpful.
Location5/5: great, it is a 7 min. walk to the Barberini metro station, and 15 min. to the fontana di trevi. The area is quiet and safe (there is the US ambassy a couple of blocks away).
Rooms5/5: there is AC everywhere so no problem with heat waves. Lockers are big, a backpack fits well. Beds are comfy and long (it is a big issue for tall people like me). Maybe a chair or something in the room to lay things upon wouldnt be a bad idea...Quality of sleep is great, windows have shutters and the zone is quiet (roommates are quiet also).
Cleanliness5/5: hostel is super clean.
Breakfast 4/5: pretty basic but abundant (included).
Kitchen 5/5: clean and well equipped.
Prices4/5: a bit expensive but it is worth for.

Location: 4/5 - You can walk to most of the major sites in Rome from here. It's just round the corner from Hard Rock cafe. The station isn't too far either. The only thing about the location is that there isn't an underground station very close.
Wifi: 4/5 - Was pretty good. It was fine in the room & common areas.
Cleanliness: 4/5 - The hostel was cleaned quite well but because my room was near reception people used our bathroom as the common bathroom & it got dirty quickly. The room was fine.
Room: 4/5 - Beds were comfy, good air-con, good window shutters to stop noise & light, good big lockers (need your own lock). Plus the room was very nicely decorated, not just standard. The only downside is that my pillow was rubbish.
Common area: 4/5 - Good kitchen. Big dinning table to sit &/or eat, 2 shared computers & some bean bags. The only down side is that I would have liked a sofa to sit on.
Other: The hosts were great & helpful, gave good advice. Hostel easy to find. The only downside is the breakfast. The bread was very small which was weird & the milk was very warm.

I would stay here again. Rome was really nice.

I stayed at the Contrara twice on different nights, the first night was fine, however if you can request what building to stay ask for the one that conects with the stairs at the bar. The first night we stayed in the one across the reception and it was not as clean as the other one. They give you a little sign to put above your bed to indicate the bed is occupied, however that doesnt work, I made my bed and when I came back at night there was another guy sleeping on it. The showers are clean however the other building is nicer. Take your own towel, otherwise you can rent one for 2 Euros. They give you a welcome drink, the bar is nice, the kitchen is cute, the vibe is young, and it's great if you are on a budget. Beds are clean, sheets are clean, and the people you meet are very nice. It is easy to get to from the Metro.

Room Tip: Ask for the building above the reception area.
