“Hotel worth remembering :-)”
Reviewed 6 November 2013 via mobile

We had chosen Italy for our honeymoon - first destination being Rome. Brilliant start to the trip!- the sole reason being Hotel De Monti. When we first arrived- we were a bit confused honestly. No sign, 3 floors - why has it got such high rating?? But once we interacted with hotel staff - the service, the hospitality and the warmth (not to mention advice about what to do when and experience what all in Rome)---we have not encountered the same in any other place throughout the trip!
Now when anyone asks about Rome, we simply cannot respond without mentioning Hotel De Monti.

Thank you for amazing memories and reminding us what customer centricity is all about

Dear Bani and Ishtpreet,

thank YOU for a lovely review!

We first of all would like to inform everyone is reading that our little Hotel has only 7 rooms at the third floor of an ancient building not provided with a lift (and thanks for reminding!!!), always kept immaculate from our housekeeper Andrada.

What we like of our job (and we chose to do here) is let everyone live Rome as a Roman would do, so, not having lunch in front of the Trevi fountain for some frozen/pre-cooked touristy food, but the really Roman/Italian way of living the most beautiful city in the world. That is why, exiting from the Hotel, our service does not finish. Tips about how to skip the lines (please, DO NOT BOOK anything before coming in Rome, it is a wasting of money!!!) and the way how to recognize the best local restaurant!

Thank you a bilion time once again and we really really look forward to meeting you soon!

All the best!

We stayed at the Hotel de Monti for 10 days in April. The staff, Mauro, Andrada, etc. were the best hosts ever. Very clean, comfortable and very affordable, nice continental breakfast en suite. Genuine Roman neighborhood with restaurants that are not tourist traps, close to the main train & bus Termini. The only down side was climbing up three stories without elevator -not recommended for the elderly. Mauro's recommendations about restaurants and attractions were flawless. There's no better value in Rome. We will return. Ernst, San Francisco, CA

Hello and thank you so much for posting this review!

Yes, we remember everyone is reading that we are at the third floor of an ancient building not provided with a lift and that our Hotel has no sign outside; on our website there are all the specific directions about how to reach us!

It is so easy to get lost in Rome (actually, is on of the best thong to do to discover the town!) and we are always here to provide a map and explain how to really afford the long days of sightseeing!

Thank you so much again and we look forward to meeting you again!

Last week we arrived to Rome via the train (Florence). A taxi took us to this hidden hotel but in a great neighborhood close to a great restaurant for pasta (La Carbonara). Mauro, the desk clerk opened the door and came down to help me the four flights of stairs with our luggage. Our room was beautiful. It didn't have carpet which we dislike and the size was perfect for us two. Mauro registered us in and gave us the best advice in what to avoid and to enjoy in our four days in Rome. The breakfast in the mornings were very nice and always a pleasure to eat before venturing off to our adventures helped by our advice from Mauro. I would say this was a perfect place to stay but there was one negative (some kid upstairs was running up and down which was annoying). Other than that, i would recommend this place to all. I want to thank the hotel de Monti staff for their efforts in making our stay in Rome one we will never forget. The four flights of stairs helped us to lose the weight of all the pasta we ate at La Carbonara.

Room Tip: Ask for a room further away from the kitchen which is by the entrance. Also, ask for help with lugga...

The stairs, if you remember, from us are called the "free gym service provided from the Hotel" and you are the best witness!!!!

Really, thank you so much for all the compliments and we remind, as you did, that we are at the third floor of an ancient building not provided with a lift and our Hotel has no sign outside; our website is the best in order to get directions (and also for reserving at the best prices on-line...).

When at the Hotel De Monti, we remind everyone is reading, to ask us the map with all our explanations about how to discover Rome at its best, including the best tips for real, genuine local Roman/Italian restaurants!

Look forward to meeting you soon!

We booked this for our honeymoon based on the reviews. Everyone raved about the service, but our experience was so so. My husband felt the service was good b/c they spoke English and were helfpul. When we were settling up, Luigi explained to me that they don't usually get tips (I had left tips for the maid two days and she returned them, thinking I had just left it on bed, which is great honesty! I was able to tip the main gal directly.) Luigi was great and very helpful our last night and I wish he would have been there more. Everyone raves about Marco, who was helpful in the beginning, but as the week went on just didn't seem as helpful, so we didn't bother. Our big splurge was a private guide for half a day so we just got suggestions from here for the week.

The hotel is on the 5th floor I believe and the steps are long after hours of walking!

Maid service was great.

Walls are thin. My husband has perfect hearing and heard someone puking and a couple who arrive around midnight and decided it was okay to get into a loud argument.

Thought the location was great. This was good value if you arent going to spend a lot of time in your room. The shower was a good size and the maids were excellent.

There are a few things the hotel could do that are inexepensive and could make a difference. Also, we were in Room 35 and if the water heater goes they need to the roof through the room. we were upset to see our door open. Even if going away for a moment, the door should have been locked and closed. We felt safe in the hotel and there is a small safe.

Add towel bars to keep your towels in the bathroom!

There were no drawers so it was a pain to have piles of clothes that could not be contained and would spill over easily.

Dear guest,

we thank you for posting this review.

We actually are feeling a little bit confused. It is the very first time someone writes that the service provided was not that good. Of course, we are not here writing we are the best Hotel in Rome (3rd floor with no elevator, not 5th though) and our rooms are all the same size, actually bigger than the Roman standard.

As per EVERYONE checking in, we provide to EVERY SINGLE GUEST we have in our Hotel, a map of the city and an explanation about Rome, especially if it is the first time. This is the part of our job that we do not consider like a duty, but a passionate will to share what is the knowledge we have of Rome, that we definitely think has to be not hidden to who comes for tourism.

Said this, Mauro is not understanding what was the thing that letted you think he was not here to help. Everyday, it has been asked you if everything was ok and even in order to do not bother you every day (when asked, it seemed you actually did not want to listen what we would like to suggest you and you prefered to go quickly in room...), we cannot insist if someone would like not to be annoyed...

Mauro, anyway, apologises so much if you think he has not been helpful; we repeat, it is the very first time a guest of our Hotel writes this. So, why should everyone else, even writing some complains about the Hotel, always mentioned good things about our service???

Please, be back and give Mauro the oppurtunity to show you that our suggestions, if listened, work fine to let you enjoy Rome at the best.

Best regards.

We arrived on a Friday and stayed for 3 nights, it's located close to Termini station and a number of the major sights and a safe area to walk in as the Questura and President's Residence are close by. Look for the large brown door with the buzzer labelled "Hotel de Monti" next to Via Panisperna No. 94. Prior to arrival, familiarise yourself with the photos of the building and door which other reviewers have kindly posted.

To reiterate, Hotel de Monti is not very everyone - but if you want a clean, cost effective base in the centre of Rome then this is for you. The "Hotel" in the name is a little misleading - more of a B&B consisting of 7 rooms with small ensuite bathrooms. It has no communal sitting or dining area (breakfast is delivered to your room). This was perfectly adequate for us but if you require more facilities then you'll need to look elsewhere and pay more for your stay.

Yes it's on the third floor of an old building so if you don't like a lot of stairs then this is not for you. BTW the exercise is good for you as you'll be eating very well in Rome especially if you take their restaurant recommendations.

The best thing about Hotel de Monti are the staff. Mauro especially is "fantastico". Personable, with a good command of English, highly service-orientated and keen to ensure you have an enjoyable stay in his beloved city. On Saturday there were demonstrations and a Rome v Napoli football match in the evening. Mauro advised us of a safe walking route to and from our restaurant and areas to avoid at night. He advised us in advance to not buy tickets for the museums but to ask him when we arrived. I was dubious about this but "when in Rome do as the Romans do". At 9:15 am on Sunday we only waited 10 mins at one of the official entrances to purchase tickets and enter the Forum and because it was 2-day pass, the next day at 10:15 am we walked straight through the turnstiles of the Colosseum passing the very long queue for tickets. The local restaurant recommendations for Friday and Sunday evening were perfect, huge plates of delicious hand made pasta, tender steaks, lovely wines and good old Italian service!

A note, the bedroom walls are thin so it can be a little noisy early in the morning when breakfast is being prepared and late at night when guests return. We spent large parts of our days walking so we slept well considering we were in unfamiliar surroundings. If you think noise will be problem then bring ear plugs!

Hotel de Monti don't worry, we'll be back as we threw our coin in the Trevi Fountain!

We just need to wait for you to be back so, you threw the coin!!!!

Thank you a thousand time for this magnificient review! It says everything, we are not able to add anything!

We just remind we are at the third floor (perfect thing to digest!), no sing outside the Hotel (our website for directions and best prices!) and that our reception opens only from 1pm to 8pm (check-in ONLY until 1pm!)

A personal hug from Mauro (hurry up to come back!)!!!!

This is a great little hotel, entirely on the third floor of a building. If you don't like stairs, read no further, there are 58 of them and no lift.

Most contributors mention how hard this hotel is to find so I took the precaution of having a look at it on Google Street View. I'm glad I did as we arrived in the dark after our flight out was delayed. There is no sign, just a door push but we got there okay. We used the express coach from the airport to the Terminii and walked for about 15 minutes to get there.

The room was very nice, well furnished, clean and with airconditioning. As other contributors mention, the street side is noisy so we usually kept the windows closed. Breakfast is served on a tray in the room, from a menu filled in and posted the evening before. The manager Mauro is extremely welcoming and will do everything he can to make sure visitors get the best from his home city. His advice on visiting tourist spots, how to use the public transport and where to get good food was invaluable.

As for Rome - what can I say? This was our first visit and it was everything we hoped it would be. The Forum and Colisseum are just a short walk from the hotel and with a map and guidebook we explored the city on foot. The only time we used the train (Cavore station is a five minute walk) was to go out to Ostia Antica which was an unexpected delight.

This hotel is in a perfect position for exploring central Rome and there are plenty of eateries and bars nearby too. The Presidential Palace is nearby so it is quite busy. It is quite a trendy area but prices in restaurants were pretty good. We had been told Rome was expensive but compared to London prices, they were very good.

I would happily recommend this hotel to anybody visiting Rome and hope to stay there again myself.

Hi there and thank you very much for writing this review! We are not able to write a better explanation of the Hotel!

So glad we were able to letted you enjoy Rome and our restaurants, it is our main focus!

Let us just specify something: Google maps could be a usefull system, but we figured out that it does not work very good for the historical centre of Rome! Probably, in order to find where our Hotel exactly is, it is better our website!

Look forward to meeting you again!!!

This hotel is centrally located within walking distance from many major attractions! The rooms are adequate, clean and the beds are decent.

The street side rooms are very noisy as is the plumbing, and the morning staff that are getting the breakfast started.

When it rained the toilet backed up which apparently the owner claimed was a Rome problem!

Mauro (general desk manager ) was extremely helpful with tips on everything; providing suggestions on restaurants to eat at, and good bars.

At the end of a long walking day the stairs to the 3rd floor are truly a killer!! Truly!

Hello there and thank you very much for sharing your experience in our Hotel!

All our rooms have double glasses windows; when closed no noise could enter from outside. Though, there is an air conditioning system in all our rooms.

Our toilette system is brand new, sewer not so much (which is a building system and being considered as a monument we do not have much action about renovating it). When it rains, actually there are no problems and we found out that too much papers were threw in the WC, causing the block of the pump that flushes the water. Nothing serious though, as we fixed the problem in 5 minutes.

Thanks also for reminding everyone that we are at the third floor of an ancient building without elevator, so who reads and reserves will not have a bad surprise (it is anyway written everywhere before reserving).

A personal greeting and thanks from Mauro!
