“Not So Great”
Reviewed 17 October 2011

A friend and I just stayed here on 15 Oct for one night as part of post-cruise package arranged through Cunard. I'm not sure what the cost was for the night's stay but it wasn't a cheap package so either the hotel or Cunard is making a nice profit on an otherwise unremarkable and average hotel room. The hotel must have deals with several tour companies as the hotel guests seemed to be comprised of large tour groups. With the name "Savoy" and a location near the Via Veneto, we expected a much nicer hotel than this.

The hotel is conveniently located for walking to Borghese Park, Spanish Steps and Trevi Fountain. Our room was on the small side, older decor with dark carpeting and gold wallpaper. It was very stuffy in the room and the A/C didn't work. When we inquired at the front desk, they explained that the A/C was turned off for the whole hotel, as it was October (never mind that it was a warm day). They recommended opening the window but our room faced out onto a courtyard roof that would have given access into our room from the outside so that was not a good option. They did offer us another room higher up that was even shabbier than the one we had, so we kept our original room. I would say that if you got a good price for a room here, it would be an OK place to stay but don't expect anything upscale. There is an OK breakfast buffet but I wouldn't pay extra for it.

This hotel was part of a post cruise package that we purchased. The Hotel Savoy is in an excellent location in a fairly upscale shopping/hotel area. Lots of very good restaurants close by. The staff were excellent and spoke very good English. We found the room to be a little small but nicely decorated. Breakfast can be arranged in many packages. The breakfast buffet, located in the basement, was nice but not extensive. More than enough for our needs but not like a typical North American breakfast buffet. We were able to easily walk to the Barberini Metro station. As well, the Trevi Fountain, Spanish Steps and much more are easily walkable for the adventurous.

Room Tip: Ask if you have a street view or not. Via Veneto is quite busy but we found the hotel to be quite so...

We stayed for a few days at the end of a Med Cruise. Our Room wasnt ready on arrival but arriving at 10.00 am was a bit impertinant. . We were invited to have coffee and relax in the roof restaurant till our room was ready which did not take long. The location of this hotel is so so good .The Borghese gardens are a stroll away as is the metro which gives easy access to the Vatican or the Colleseum. If you arrive in St Peters and the line of visitors is half way around the square do not be disheartened it moves fast enough. THe proximity of a variety of restaurants is amazing.
The hotel gave us a complimentary dinner on one evening. It was very good , the food was superb. Views from the restaurant are very good. The room was large with plenty of space . There was also a minibar. The bathroom also was more than adequate.
The staff were very friendly and the room was kept immaculate.
We will return to stay here aagain

Hotel is lovely, beds comfortable, if you remove the extremely heavy comforter (has to weigh 30 lbs.- feels like the lead filled shield that they cover you with when getting an xray done!). The bathrooms are beautifully tiled with a deep but narrow long bathtub including a shower. Toilet and bidet in the bathroom. We had a street view standard room which was clean. Breakfast buffet was included in our package and had good options available.
Hotel is located in a pricey shopping district (ie: Versace just up the street) which means that resaurants on the main streets are VERY EXPENSIVE. *TIP: Get off the main roads and explore some side streets...resaurants are half the price, food is excellent. Pastry shops also sell great hot food at a more reasonable price. Main termini station is located a few blocks away but the best option is hop-on, hop-off open top double decker buses for getting around the city to the best attractions. We bought the 48 hour bus pass for 28.00 EURO per person and it was a fantastic way to get to the sights. The buses provide headphones (you keep) on your first trip on the bus and they provide an audio guide as you ride through the city. You can purchase the bus pass at hotel reception. Buses run approximately every half hour. All in all, a good hotel but area expensive for meals. ALSO NOTE: When we went to check out, someone had eaten at the hotel rooftop restaurant and charged their 180.00 EURO meal to our room. We had not even seen the rooftop restaurant and had to sign the bill stating that they were not our charges. Initials signed on the bottom of the restaurant bill did not match our initials. They definitely need a better system to check that charges posted to rooms are indeed the rooms that the customers are staying in!

We stayed at the Savoy at the beginning of Sept before our cruise. Our room was your basic standard average room - think Clarion hotel. It was clean, although there were stains on the comforter. Overall, it's good for a one night stay. Skip the breakfast room if it's not included in your rate and hit one of the local cafe's for coffee. No coffee maker in the room is a drawback. The staff was nice.

I haven't stayed at this hotel but I have sent many customers here who have reported to me their satisfaction with this hotel.
In Rome there are problems with air con , noise, small rooms etc ..even in 5 star hotel. Remember you are in an ancient city.
5 stars to the manager who cares enough about the hotel's reputation to take the time to respond on trip advisor.
