“Hotel is Fine”
Reviewed 4 June 2007

We spent our last night in Rome at the Hotel Victoria. We arrived in the early evening after a long day on the train from Florence. Rather than helping us with our bags upon arrival, the staff ignored us until we asked for help. When we arrived in our room, we requested an extra pillow and were told by the bellman that housekeeping was closed and it wouldn't be possible. Around midnight when we called the front desk and asked again, a pillow was brought right away. The air conditioning didn't work very well and it was unseasonably warm in Rome that week. The breakfast buffet was comparable to others in Italy but we were never acknowledged by the wait staff and never got coffee service before we had to leave for the airport. When the front desk staff realized we had a driver picking us up for the airport and we had proven to be polite as well as "good tippers", we were suddenly given some help. The location of the hotel is interesting but far too great a distance from the sites of interest. Yes, it's a quiet location but everything is either a cab ride or long walk away. We wouldn't stay there again. But if location isn't important to you and you prefer a quiet location with mediocre service, you'll find this elegant hotel lovely. And it is definitely a pretty hotel with nice, albeit small, rooms. Our other days in Rome were spent at Albergo del Senato and it was wonderful.

This is a great hotel - nice clean rooms, good location - but the best thing about this hotel is the staff. Every person at the front desk was extremely friendly and helpful! Always smiling and happy to see us walk in. What a great way to be greeted when you come back from a long day of walking throughout the city! I would definitely recommend this hotel to friends and stay there again.

We had a great stay at Victoria hotel. The room was excellent, exactly how it how it appeared on the website. The staff were friendly, helpful and courteous. The breakfast was very good and as a party of three we would all recommend this hotel for a pleasant stay in Rome. The hotel is within easy walking distance of the Metro, Spanish Steps, bars and restaurants. The staff organised for an item that had been forgotten in the room to be sent back to Ireland after our stay and their help was much appreciated.

This hotel is in a very nice area. The room was small, but nice and clean. Keep in mind Europe has different standards for nice. It is well located if you want to see some of the better known sights like the Pantheon, Spanish Steps and Trevi Fountain. The desk staff was extremely helpful and helped us book a fantastic tour of the Vatican and St. Peter's Basilica. The continental breaskfast was very nice.

I highly recommend it!

We had a great stay at the Hotel Victoria. We planned our trip with only 4 weeks notice, and had difficulty finding a quality hotel with a quad room available. Most only have 1-2 of these, and it seemed all were booked. We settled on The Victoria despite it being farther away from where we wanted to be. The internet rate was good, and the room was essentially a large corner room on the 2nd floor. Clean, well-appointed, with good space. Three large windows that opened and brought the breeze through. They were new windows, heavy construction, and kept the sound OUT. Bathroom was slightly dated, but clean. Breakfast was included, and it was good. Staff was friendly, helpful, and made arrangements for us as requested. Hotel is across the street from Villa Borghese (park), and the nearby subway station had a long tunnel that connected us with the fun Piazza di Spagna area.

  • Liked — They had a quad room. Nice, quiet neighborhood.
  • Disliked — Farther away from where we wanted to be.

My family just returned from a wonderful trip to Italy; we were in Rome from April 21st to April 24th. I chose the Hotel Victoria for a number of reasons: I needed a good location, I wanted a hotel with a large "family" room so my wife and two boys (ages 8 and 12) could stay in one room, and I wanted someplace that was clean. I relied heavily on the reviews posted in Trip Advisor when it came to choosing the Victoria. Because we booked early through an internet service, we received a good rate.

First, we found the location to be perfect for us -- close enough to walk to the major sights, but secluded enough to offer some peace and quiet. The hotel was ideally situated next to the Villa Borghese,
and the neighborhood was very quiet. It was a welcome sanctuary after
a hectic day taking in the sights of Rome. A great coincidence was that the location for our rental car pickup, Avis, was pretty much right next to the hotel; it was easy to drive from there to the main highway north to Tuscany, which was our next stop.

The hotel is right off Via Veneto, and a very easy walk to the Trevi fountain, the Pantheon, Piazza Navono and the Spanish Steps. The Colisseum, Palantine Hill and the Forum are about a 30 minute walk away, which we walked as well. My 8-year-old really loved walking everywhere, especially with the many stops for gelato; to us, seeing Rome while walking was one of the most enjoyable aspects of our trip.
We did take a taxi to St. Peter's, which is a quick ride away.

The hotel itself was low-key and charming. The front desk was very helpful in making dinner reservations and suggestions for us, and the bartender was very friendly. The perfect end to our day was getting drinks at the bar and taking them up to the lovely rooftop terrace. We only had breakfast at the Victoria once, but found it to be fine -- a basic buffet-style breakfast with a reasonable selection.

Our room and bathroom were large and immaculately clean. People used to "American" style hotels may have an issue with how to take a shower without a proper shower curtain; the key is to sit down in the tub, and don't worry about getting water on the floor -- that's what the drain is for.

Overall, we found the Victoria to be the perfect hotel for our situation -- if you're looking to be more in the middle of where the big sights are or are looking for a larger, more upscale hotel, it may not be your cup of tea. However, we will highly recommend the Victoria to family and friends traveling to Rome.

We just returned to our home in California from a 12 day trip to Rome. The Hotel Victoria was a perfect location for our group of six (including two teenage girls). The hotel is adjacent to the Via Veneto area, the Spagna Metro Station and across the way from the Villa Borghese. The staff was absolutely wonderful and super helpful.
Our family has traveled all over the United States and Europe. We are
used to being well served and pampered. The Hotel Victoria did not disappoint.
