Hotel is Kind of old school, but room was nice and spacious. restaurant was quiet but the pasta was fantastic and waiters were friendly. The roof terrace has a spectacular memorable view of the nearby church

Room

We stayed at the Mecenate Palace Hotel for 5 nights including Breakfast and arrived on the 20th February 2014. This was the weekend of the Italy vs Scotland Rugby match and I think because of this we were upgraded to a suite. The suite was roomy and clean consisting of Lounge, Bedroom, walk in wardrobe and bathroom which included a Jacuzzi. We never actually used the lounge as by the time we got back to our hotel early evening we were shattered from all the site seeing. Luckily they had provided a TV in the lounge and bedroom which showed CNN and BBC World Service only in English. The downside of this was it was not actually within the hotel it was half a dozen doors further down and consisted of 4 door keys and two long flights of steps which as you can image was almost the killer after the walking and step climbing we had already done around Rome. It was also quite noisy as the off an internal marble staircase so you could often hear doors slamming and people climbing the stone staircase. We also had to return our rather heavy key to reception each time which was a bit inconvenient.

Breakfast
Breakfast was served on the roof terrace/restaurant with a lift to 5A then another set of stairs so not very usable for the disabled or people with walking difficulties. This was a buffet style breakfast consisting of cereal, toast, cheese, meats, fruit juices, croissants/buns and fruit. This was a good display but got a bit samey after the third day. Beautiful views across Rome and the
'The Papal Basilica of Santa Maria Maggiore' which is definitely worth a visit. The Staff were friendly and very quick to respond.

Location
Excellent location a small distance from the Termini train station and the Metro (easy to use 1.50 euro each per trip) was just down the road. We got the Leonardo express from the airport which is a direct train to the Termini station. This was a 30 minute journey costing 14 euros each but make sure if you use this on the homeward bound that you validate your ticket before boarding the train on one of the machines as there is a 100 euro fine it you haven't.

We had a fantastic time and would stay there again but like I said we didn't have a standard double room due to the upgrade.

One last thing, don't forget there is a tourist tax for staying overnight in Rome charged at checkout. This was about 3 euros per person per night so make sure you factor this into your budget.

Room Tip: Remember your tourist tax 3 euros per person per night charged at checkout Most things are in walki...

If you travel by train, the location is ideal, a five minutes walk from Termini station, a section of the city which is interesting in many ways although not normally exciting for the standard tourist. Let us say, far enough from the station to be just away from the usual railway station chaos and fauna.
But .....the position on the square facing the Santa maria Maggiore basilica is charming. In summer, I suppose, breakfast on the terrace overlooking the square should be a real plus. Breakfast is medium, kind of uneventful standard, could be better (considering the class of the hotel).
My room was one with a view, of course for a bit higher price, still worth it. Fifth floor, even better.
Room architecture is classic, another way to say "old style" , on the whole pleasant. My bathroom was large (double washbasin, for instance).
There is a real lobby and a bar.
In January, the price was balanced and convenient. However, in June-September the music in Roma may be different !

Room Tip: Spend the extra euros for a (superior) room with a view on Santa Maria Maggiore and on the square

Booked with this hotel due to proximity to many Roman attractions. First off the hotel was suppose to show at the airport with a car/driver to pick us up & did not. The front desk tried to charge us until I said I would dispute with credit card company & tie up their money for as long as possible & then they backed down. From then on they ignored us & delivered no service to us. Such as a burned out bulb & no hot water in our room. In a nut shell...room was good but the quality of service missed the mark & staff were extremely rude! Go if you have to go beware of rude staff.

Room Tip: Windows are double paned so u can get a room facing the church which is beautiful.

I've stayed at the Mecenate 3 times now and still believe that it is the best location and a great hotel. Great views, location and access to everything. service was very good and the roof top restaurant is great for breakfast in the morning.

Room Tip: ask for a room facing Mary Magorie.

We have just returned from a lovely weekend in Rome, hotel was in a great location, had a lovely view over the square, room and bathroom clean but dated, hotel staff pleasant but not busting to help or assist, pleasant stay. Roof top restaurant disappointing. We booked roma passes prior to visit which were great.

Just spent a very wet weekend in rome where we stayed at this hotel. The room was very clean and had everything we needed (tea coffee toilitries etc) the bathroom was large but the seal around the shower glass leaked a minor irratation. The hotel was only a short walk from the main station and there was a few shops nearby and it over looked a beautiful square. As it rained all weekend and i had my wife and mother with me we decided to eat in the hotel and the food was good and not a bad price also breakfast was good and part of the hotel rate and the staff who served were pleasent more than be said for the woman in the downstairs bar who was harder to track down than lord lucan. overall this is a very good hotel with easy travel links.

Room Tip: get one facing the church
