“Not a Palace, just above average”
Reviewed 2 June 2014

I stayed here for 5 nights with my husband, we paid extra for a double room with a view of the Basilica. I do feel that the public areas in particular could do with a lick of paint and some attention paid to the overall decor.
Our room was just an average room, although the view was very nice, if I were to return to this hotel I don't think I could justify the extra money for the view alone.
However the room was very clean and the towels and sheets were changed every day. Although there was a kettle, we only had 4 milks and once used they were not replenished! The air conditioning wasn't very good, so I'm not sure if it would be adequate for the hotter months.
Breakfast was continental and never varied, so by the 5th day I was a little sick of it.

I haven't really got anything bad to say about the hotel but I neither have anything really good to say, it's just average.

The main reason on choosing this hotel was it's location, it was definitely very good for the metro, Termini, bus and the airport bus. The downside was that there was a lot of homeless around this area, which was quite upsetting.

We stayed here for eight nights. Our room could have used some updating, but it was charming. It was not very large, but adequate and we had one of the deluxe double rooms. We stayed in room 509 which was a very bright cheery room as it was a corner room and had windows that faced both the street in front of the hotel and the Bascilica de St. Maggiore. What a lovely view of the Bascilica. It was so peaceful opening the curtains both in the morning and at night and seeing the lovely Bascilica across the street, although we were on the move from the time we arrived in Rome until we left and didn't have a lot of time to admire the lovely view, but nice to start the day and have this view as the last thing we saw at night. Because our bed faced the Bascilica window when the curtains and shutters were open it was a nice scene to see the column outside when awakening during the night. The concierge was helpful in booking side trips through Green Line Tours. We took the day trip to Capri, and although long, it was a lovely island and worth the time. We also allowed them to book an afternoon tour of the Vatican and St. Peter's Bascilica for us and the pick up and drop off at the hotel was very convenient although we chose to walk back from the Vatican. Yes, it is a good distance, but if one is conscious of keeping up their healthy lifestyle then Rome is a wonderful walking city. We tried to walked to everything within five miles....and loved the walks. The rooftop breakfast was good, although I am not much of a fan of European breakfast, it was adequate with boiled eggs, ham, cheese, breads and pastries. They also served a quiche every morning, but I am not a fan of this dish served cold. We took the train for a two day venture to Venice and also a day trip to Florence. The proximity of the hotel to the station is marvelous for day trips by train or arriving and departing by train. The restaurant right outside the hotel is very good. Upon arriving around 10:00 from one of our day trips we didn't want to walk far for dinner so we ate right outside of the hotel and the food was actually some of the better food we had. We did not try the rooftop restaurant at the hotel, except for breakfast.

I don't know if we would have enjoyed this hotel as much if it had not been for the view of the Bascilica and having lots of light flooding our room, so I would definitely opt for one of the rooms facing the Bascilica and if possible ask for a corner room to get lots of light if desired. Internet connection was good and the price was great (free). Bathroom was large enough, actually larger than most European bathrooms. The safe inside the room is very convenient to lock up valuables while out and about. Banks, pharmacies, convenience shopping for items left behind is right across the street so all in all the location was excellent and out of the overcrowded Trevi are. Nice, quiet rooms and comfortable beds. Air conditioning was ok, but not great. Had it not been for the very cool nights and the cross breeze we created with our windows on two sides, I'm not sure the air conditioning would have been sufficient, especially in the hotter months, but then this is not an unusual issue in European hotels or older hotels in the States. This hotel is a good choice.

Room Tip: 509 is an excellent room for view, light and quietness

Our room was not quite as pictured online, being smaller and darker (small windows with no sunlight possible) than pictured. We had a problem with the bathroom and the concierge was not very happy to help us. But the rooftop restaurant was great, osso buco very good and the chef is really attentive!! He is eager to serve and help the customers! We would recommend the resaturant!

We stayed one overnight here while in Rome. Very friendly check in service, excellent breakfast, nice views of the church and centrally located. Reasonably priced. Room was a little dated and could use a little face lift, but had character. Great choice.

Stayed here in March for husbands birthday. Lovely hotel we actually stayed in the annexe didn't fancy at first because you are in and out of the hotel for breakfast. But it really wasn't a problem the room was very nice which looked out onto the garden at the back all furnishings were lovely . The breakfast was on the roof terrace with enough choice, we also went up there in the evening for a drink which was very nice and the view of Santa Maria Maggiore was wonderful. Had a fabulous few days and would return to this hotel again very good location

I recently stayed at this hotel for four nights. Although centrally located this is a very average hotel, the décor is in need of updating as lots of scuff marks and chipped paint. The breakfast was very good and you could help yourself to as much as you liked. However, the evening meal in the restaurant was very limited and the same every night also expensive for what you got, which probably explains why there were only two or three couples eating in the evening. If the menu was more varied I think they would have more custom.

Watch out if you use the room telephone, I made two local calls which lasted 20 seconds each as I was cut off each time but when I checked out I was charged 25 euros which they said was for taxes. This seems to be a rip off as I didn't even get to speak to anyone.

On the plus side the view from the terrace bar is fantastic day or night.

Extremely convenient location. You can walk from the train station to this hotel, even if you're pulling wheeled luggage. Nice rooms, very large bathrooms. Robes and slippers in the closet. Good breakfast on the roof with a nice view, and the hotel looks out at a famous church. Walking distance to the Colosseum and Forum.
