Just returned from brief, but extremely gratifying visit to Rome. Selected Hotel Giulio Cesare for our stay. What a wonderful find. The hotel is beautiful, intimate and very well appointed. We were travelling with another couple, and they too, were elated with the accommodations. Our rooms were on the 5th floor with a huge terrace overlooking all of the rooftops which included a breathtaking view of the dome of St. Peter's. All I can say is wow!!!!
The rooms were small, but not at all cramped, plenty of closet space and the bed was extremely comfortable. The bathrooms were magnificent and immaculate. The rooms were very tastefully decorated.
The front desk was extremely helpful and friendly and eager to help with any inquiries a guest might have. The lounge area and bar were spectacular and the outside gardens were open to have drinks or cocktails and it was very relaxing. The breakfast room and the buffet were fabulous. The had a great selection at the buffet, and the maître d' was eager to please with any special requests, whether dietary or any special order a guest might desire.
The hotel has a free parking facility, and it is connected to the hotel, so no searching for parking.
Finally, although the hotel is not in the "thick of the city" it is in the Prati section of the city, very residential and upscale. It is not too far from the Vatican and their are plenty of taxis available, or, if you prefer, the train station is 2 blocks away. If you take the train, you are 2 stops from the Spanish Steps and all the other usual points of interest the city has to offer.
Finally, I cannot believe how reasonable the rates were, considering we were there during the first week of September, which is still considered high season. If you do not mind being a little away from the noise and the hustle and bustle of a big city, but still withing a 10 minute cab ride to the center of Rome, this is the hotel to stay at. We have been to Rome a dozen times, and have always stayed in or near the center, but this is our new "find" which I am sure we will be frequenting many times in the near future.
Don't expect the size of a typical American Hotel Room. Rooms are small and decorated to the standards of European cultures. Bed was very comfortable. The shower was a little small. The staff was welcoming, pleasant and helpful. Front desk staff caught us walking out early one morning and when we told them we were going on a day trip to Florence, they ran down to the kitchen and made us two nice snack packs.
Breakfast was excellent. Every morning eggs, ham, croissants, variety of juices and bread.
This hotel is located centrally between Vatican and Central Rome. Don't be afraid of a little walk. Within 15-20 minutes walking you can reach almost any point and if you don't like walking, Metro station is only a block away.
Give these guys a try.
This had to be the most depressing room I've ever stayed in. It was clean, but the decor and furnishings were old and dated. My room was below street level so it was dark and unwelcoming, it had a broken lock on the window. I asked to be moved, hoping to get a room on a higher floor, but the single rooms are only in the basement apparently. The breakfast was decent and the staff friendly. The outdoor patio was very pretty and I imagine in summer would be a nice place to sit with a drink. It's in a quiet residential neighborhood, but its not very convenient, most sights are a 20-30 min walk.
The stay was wonderful. Everobody was very helpful. The Hotel itself located in a very quiet neighborhood, very comfortable rooms with very kind and helpful staff. This is my eighth stay and I must sincerely congratulate all working in this remarkable place. The breakfast was very tasty. The coffee remarkable. The bar after a long day visiting the beautiful Rome very pleasant.
The best hotel I ever stayed at.
This was the last leg of our 30 day trip, the hotel is very nice, rooms way too small. We asked to be changed and they gave us a bigger room, but still quite small. About a 30 minute walk to the Vatican. About a 10 minute walk to the subway. It is located in a really nice part of town and safe to walk at night. The Bartender is the bomb. The staff is very friendly. We were given lots of good tips for restaurants and outings. All in all worth the price, bang for your buck in right on. I think they need to update their beds, they are pretty old and lumpy.
