“A great stay”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 25 August 2008

The Duke Hotel is really a good choice in Rome.
Our room (a standard room) was very clean and appealing, the bathroom is fantastic! There were robes and slippers provided, a nice little touch. You can either take the train and metro, the free shuttle bus or a cab to get into town, all good options - although I would either catch the shuttle bus (remember to book the shuttle bus at the front desk) or take the train - you save some money, and it's very convenient.
Loved the breakfast - the restaurant is very elegant with a touch of luxury, and the waitors are very helpful and polite.Safe and pleasant residential neigbourhood!
Rome is an amazing city, and you will have a calm and relaxing stay at the Duke. The distance to "downtown Rome" is a disadvantage, but if walking distance isn't very important to you, this is a good choice.

  • Liked — The cleanliness, the luxury feeling
  • Disliked — Distance from downtown

We went here on our honeymoon and were pleased with most things:
Positives:
* Very nice room - the junior suite that is.
* A very quiet neighbourhood.
* Polite and professional staff.
* Champagne for breakfast!
* Great service with shuttle to and from Piazza di Spagna. It was needed and appreciated.

Negatives were just som minor things:
*When we were eating dinner the waitress acted very stressed and seemed to want us to leave as early as possible.
* A REALLY overpriced minibar. I mean, a Coke for 4 Euro?

Overall we were very satisfied with our stay and would recommend this hotel to our friends.

  • Liked — The little touch of luxury.
  • Disliked — The restaurant.

Our family of four, including two children aged 18 and 19, stayed at the Duke for three days. We requested rooms that adjoined. We booked our hotels from the US about a month before our travel date. We received exactly what we asked for and the rooms were very nice. We were on a 17 day rode trip through Europe and really enjoyed our stay in Rome. The concierge was extremely helpful. Most everyone spoke English so we had no language problems except one with the driver but that was our fault for poor time references that didn't translate over well! The hotel is in a residential area with the Village Borghese Park between the hotel and the main sights in Rome. We usually took a cab to a certain point and walked the rest of the way. We would recommend the hotel and would stay there again. The photos on the website are exactly what we received. It was a complete pleasure.

  • Liked — location - made it a real adventure which we wanted, in upscale residential neighborhood
  • Disliked — location - shuttle was available, though, at no cost to a point near the Spanish Steps

Myself, my husband and our eight year old son stayed at the Duke Hotel for one night at the very end of our trip to Italy this past July. We had stayed in a more centrally located hotel for the first two nights of our trip. However, my son felt that our room at the other hotel had been too dark (due to scaffolding), and he insisted that we needed to find a new hotel for our last night. Expedia was offering a terrific rate for a junior suite at the Duke Hotel, about which I had remembered reading rave reviews on Trip Advisor. We were not disappointed. The room was stylishly appointed, light, and very comfortable. The concierge booked us into a quite good restaurant in the neighborhood called Pagaroma. The shuttle bus transported us there for free. One thing that I quite liked about this restaurant was that the only tourists eating there that night seemed to be from the Duke Hotel. (I know this because we encountered most of them the next morning at breakfast.) Everyone else appeared to be real, live Romans who actually lived in the neighborhood.
The next morning, the buffet breakfast was really good. My son was thrilled. At the first hotel, the buffet breakfast had not been included and, I had felt, not worth the splurge. We had eaten a perfectly nice breakfast in a cafe nearby, but it had been a big disappointment for him.
The Duke Hotel does seem to be very child friendly. I think they must get quite a lot of families staying there. The suggestions for children's activities in their brochure were interesting -- a trip to the children's museum, bicycle riding in the Villa Borghese Gardens. The sort of activities I might recommend to a Roman family visiting Manhattan. My son definitely wants to stay there again next summer, but for longer. My husband would prefer to be nearer to the historic center where he can walk around. He had preferred the first hotel. I think that we might have to split it up again just to keep everybody happy.
I should add that I assume that the reason that I was able to get such a good rate at the last minute was due to the fact that the location of the Duke Hotel is not ideal.

  • Liked — Our room was really chic and comfortable; the concierge was friendly and knowledgeable.
  • Disliked — The location is a bit off the beaten track.

Me and my wife went to The Duke Hotel, in Rome, really afraid about the location because we thought that it was too far from the historical center. But we had a great surprise.

The hotel is great... we stayed in a beautiful suite with 02 LCD Tvs and a spacious bathroom.

About the distance from the historical center: a car service every half hour to and from the historical center and the hotel is very close to the metro station... so, no problem with that.

A special thing to register is the breakfast... the best one we had during the whole trip to Italy (more 04 hotels).... very nice, with a lot of fruits and options.

We used the Duke as a base for a week in Rome to start our honeymoon and we couldn't have chosen a better hotel. Absolutely everything at this hotel was amazing - food, room, staff, cleanliness - not a single thing we could find fault with. We fell in love with the hotel and will definately be going back (don't let the fact that it's a little out of the centre put you off, the hotel run a FREE Mercedes shuttle minibus all day to and from the Spanish Steps).
If you're looking for the perfect place to stay in Rome go for the Duke.

We stayed 3 nights at the Duke and found it ideal for the needs of a family of 4 looking for a fairly high standard of comfort. We had an attractive and spacious room with a large balcony, with room for table and chairs - could easily have enjoyed a room service meal on it if we'd been so inclined. There was a large sofa bed for the children.

The hotel's location, situated beyond the gardens of the Villa Borghese, was just a minor inconvenience. A regular complimentary shuttle bus will take you to and from a drop-off point within easy walking distance of the Spanish steps. The hotel restaurant is very pleasant for breakfast. We had dinner their one evening and were fed very well indeed but it is better to get out and about. The front desk were extremely helpful in giving us restaurant recommendations and reservations. We thoroughly enjoyed the places they recommended.
