“Good choice for a city break”
Reviewed 12 July 2014

Although the Duke may be viewed as a little too far out of the city centre for a short city break, in actual fact it's a very good choice due to the excellent shuttle service (half hourly in each direction) and quiet, residential location. You won't be bothered by noise here, and it's only 10 minutes on the shuttle to the heart of the city. Although we didn't have a balcony (shame), our room was decent enough. Bathroom fittings are getting old and the separate shower was so small that we reverted to the bath, which was ok. a comfortable bed made for a decent night's sleep, but as some other reviewers have commented, if you need to adjust the aircon (as we did - too hot otherwise), this needs to be done via reception...weird, but it does work. Breakfast was fine but nothing special, and overall service was good. One recommendation: a 10 minute walk away is restaurant Metamorfosi, a sublime, Michelin-starred restaurant; think €120 per head and you're about there, but it is genuinely worth every euro. So, the Duke is a good hotel close to a fantastic restaurant: not a bad combination!

We just stayed at The Duke Hotel in a beautiful location in Rome. Important to us was the fast WiFi.
Service was always perfect and anything we needed, they were so kind to help us with all requests at the welcoming reception, thanks to Massimo, Antonio and Fabio. We must note the wonderful breakfast served everyday with many selections to choose from. We also had dinner in the Hotel and Chef Luca prepared a special dish for us! Wonderful all around.

We have stayed at the Duke Hotel many times and remain surprised at how they continue to maintain an excellent standard. The front desk staff are superb. Their drivers could not do enough for us. The restaurant has improved out of sight and we heartily recommend the Duke Hotel as a convenient, pleasant and friendly place to stay. One appreciates Rome much more being out of the centre.

Traveling w family, we took the family room...great value as its 2 connecting rooms, 2 bathrooms and small balcony. Staff is very helpful, but wifi is terribly annoying, losing connection frequently. Not centrally located and taxis cost a small fortune to get anywhere. The hotel does have a convenient shuttle to piazza popolo, but you have to plan ahead for pick up. Quiet neighborhood. Wonderful buffet breakfast!

The Duke is a beautiful, old hotel with comfortable quiet rooms, immaculate bathrooms, and a helpful, courteous staff. There is a spacious living room and comfortable lounge with a beautiful colored glass ceiling. We liked being in the lovely residential neighborhood, away from the hustle of the city center. This was far more pleasant than staying in a chain hotel.

We spent two nights in Rome on a business trip and looked for a centrally located comfortable accommodation. We found the Duke hotel, which is not far from the Villa Borghese park. The hotel brochure was very appealing, so that was our choice. The hotel is located in a residential neighborhood, quite far from the touristic center of the city. The hotel does offer, however, a convenient shuttle to Piazza de Popplo, which is a comfortable walking distance from the central Roman attractions. We stayed in a small suite which was spacious but furnished with old furniture and with only few amenities. For example, there was no coffee machine in the room, no iron or iron board, and if I am not mistaken, no hair dryer. We had one woolen blanket on our queen sized bed, and we felt cold during nighttime. Our room, which was located on the 3rd floor, was too close to the elevator, so there was quite a bit of noise from the hallway. The view from our windows was dirty and untidy balconies from neighboring residential apartments, not a very appealing site. The cost was fairly high - but acceptable for the location and the room size. Breakfast was good. Staff were very friendly indeed. Overall, an old hotel, which may benefit from refurbishing and modernization. I suppose we could have found for the same prize a more modern and better equipped hotel. I would recommend to downgrade it to a 3 star hotel.

Room Tip: Chose a room on an upper floor, as far away from the elevator. Check the room suitability before che...
