“A Pleasant Stay”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 21 July 2014 via mobile

The Duke hotel in Rome was recommended by a travel agent. I was a little concerned because it is somewhat out of the city center. However, a taxi ride from the train station for three people with six bags was under €20. A good sign.
The hotel is elegant and in a nice suburban neighborhood. It is currently undergoing renovations and so we could hear during the day some distance banging and drilling. The hotel staff were very accommodating including changing our room without a problem to put us further away from the noise. Our room was comfortable and pleasant with a really nice, large bathroom and beautiful views. The free breakfast was extensive, generous and fresh. The staff bent over backwards to be friendly and helpful.
In order to get into the city, the hotel provided shuttle about hourly. It helps to reserve space as it gets filled up very quickly. As alternatives, there is a bus that comes very close to the hotel and a suburban train about 10 minutes away. Being somewhat adventurous, we enjoyed mastering the local transportation system. In the Square where the train lets you off there is an area with shopping, restaurants and some nice bars. We liked to stop there after a day in the city to have a drink and talk before heading back to the hotel. There is also a healthy food emporium 1/2 block from the hotel.
The hotel restaurant served decent fare and the chef was accommodating when asked about some dietary restrictions.
I absolutely recommend the Duke hotel as a place to call your home in Rome.

We were not sure where to stay and found the Duke Hotel. The staff was absolutely fantastic, and go way above and beyond. Although we had a disconnect with our reservation it was quickly resolved. The rooms were spacious, clean and reasonably priced for Rome. They have a shuttle that runs most of the day that provides access to close proximity to key locations. Did I mention, the breakfast buffet was outstanding and the staff was over the top!

Room Tip: All the rooms are very quiet, the staff will work with you to accommodate your needs.

We stayed at the Duke Hotel in June of 2014, and it was a wonderful experience! The room was lovely, the breakfast was great, and the shuttle ran regularly to the train station. We also found a fabulous restaurant near the hotel, and when we mentioned at the desk where we were eating, they quickly pointed out that the restaurant runs a shuttle to the hotel, and called to have them pick us up.

We will definitely stay there again on our next trip to Rome!

Room Tip: Our room was lovely, very quiet and not to close to the elevator.

We stayed here for 4 nights after a cruise and the hotel was excellent.

The hotel is located slightly out of town, in an affluent residential part of the city. This was not any inconvenience though as the hotel operates a free shuttle service to the city centre.

We also used the free shuttle to go to an affiliated sports club to make use of their swimming pool which was brilliant. The hotel provided towels, flip-flops and swimming caps all free of charge.

The rooms in the hotel are spacious and clean, some with their own balconies, which we used also.

All staff were very friendly and more than happy to help with any questions we had.

Breakfast was included and was a good selection served in a buffet style.

Overall a great hotel which provided a very good service to its guests.

Thank you Massimo and your team.

Highly recommended.
Thanks
Stuart and Colleen Dawson

I was asked recently by a client to recommend a hotel to stay in Rome and without hesitation I recommended The Duke where for the past 10 years it has been for me a weary traveller a home from home where the attention of the staff to my needs has always been exemplary warm and courteous from reception to room service and comfortable bedrooms. The restaurant service and standard of their cuisine would equal the finest restaurants in the world. As my client wanted a quite location the Duke was a definite while being within 10 minutes of the centre of Rome. I am delighted to say that on a one night stay on Tuesday last week in spite of a conference taking place there the quality and service was faultless. Andrew MacKenzie.

Fantastic place to stay. We came here for a conference and they had the main conference room set up very well with all the necessary requirements- flip charts, pens, paper, etc. They also gave us extension cords for computers, as well as roving microphones, and a telephone for conference calls. The rooms themselves are beautifully decorated, and the bathrooms are huge and very clean. I was lucky enough to have a balcony- although I didn't use it as it was about 30 degrees outside! In order to adjust the AC you have to call reception- but this only takes two minutes.

Although it is a little bit outside the city, the shuttle bus service is great- a ten minute journey, every half hour into Piazza del Popolo (The last bus back from Piazza del Popolo is at 11.45pm). From here, it's a short walk to the Spanish Steps, Fontana di Trevi, and other main sites. The hotel was very helpful, and the food was really good- particularly the lunch buffet. My only bugbear was that taking public transport to the hotel with a large suitcase is really inconvenient! You have to walk up a hill for about 5-10 minutes, and the metro system doesn't have any escalators in some of the stations you need to change at to get to Euclide. Best to arrange a pick-up from Piazza del Popolo, or grab a taxi!

Room Tip: Not all rooms have balconies, so if you want a balcony you should make a request prior to arrival.

Although the Duke may be viewed as a little too far out of the city centre for a short city break, in actual fact it's a very good choice due to the excellent shuttle service (half hourly in each direction) and quiet, residential location. You won't be bothered by noise here, and it's only 10 minutes on the shuttle to the heart of the city. Although we didn't have a balcony (shame), our room was decent enough. Bathroom fittings are getting old and the separate shower was so small that we reverted to the bath, which was ok. a comfortable bed made for a decent night's sleep, but as some other reviewers have commented, if you need to adjust the aircon (as we did - too hot otherwise), this needs to be done via reception...weird, but it does work. Breakfast was fine but nothing special, and overall service was good. One recommendation: a 10 minute walk away is restaurant Metamorfosi, a sublime, Michelin-starred restaurant; think €120 per head and you're about there, but it is genuinely worth every euro. So, the Duke is a good hotel close to a fantastic restaurant: not a bad combination!
