“a wonderful hotel”
Reviewed 29 July 2011

A wonderful hotel. Very helpful staff, clean and comfortable rooms and a good location. I did find it to be a bit pricey however. The upstairs (La Terrace) restaurant has a phenomenal view - however the service was somewhat slow but still much better than any of the surrounding neighborhood restaurants.

Stayed here for 4 nights with family ( 3 rooms in all) and they were all very nice. Well appointed, reasonably spacious rooms, well equipped bathrooms. Pretty much what you would expect from an upscale " Via Veneto" area hotel. It is a bit far from the action, but a quick taxi ride fixes that. But that is a consideration when choosing this spot, and the "quid pro quo" for a quiet location, perhaps.
The hotel seemed to me, however, to be inconsistent. Maid service was always a surprise to see what would be "re-stocked" in the way of towels, facecloths, toiletries, etc. Housekeeping didn't show up for one room on one day, saying the "Do Not Disturb sign" was on the door. Not so, as that particular room was MISSING the sign!. They apologized, and immediately took care of the room and left some complimentary goodies as a "sorry" gesture. Evening turn down was also "hit or miss". Overall, though, not big problems.

The Panoramic restaurant, however, was a great disappointment. That whole operation needed some adult supervision, as it was difficult to get anyones attention up there to even get in to see it, make a reservation, or, when we finally arrived for our dinner reservation, to get anyone to acknowledge we were even there! Finally, after stopping a waiter, he pointed to our table and said we can take it whenever we wanted! Very unprofessional and chaotic .Service at the restaurant was also chaotic, the food( when it came) was mixed up with another table and completely out of sequence ( we ordered the tasting menu for 3 of 6 at the table). When the improper food was pointed out to the waiter ( my wife had actually cut into the serving before realizing it was not ours), the waiter argued, then removed the wrong dish, and SERVED IT TOTHE TABLE NEXT TO OURS. Hello!! it had been touched and "partially" eaten. We pointed it out to the lady M'aitre d', who seemed appalled, to her credit, and tried to fix our table problems by replacing our waiter with herself. But by then things were totally confused, the meals horribly out of sequence with 20 minutes needed to even begin to recover, so, after 2 hours and one course served( improperly) we told her we were leaving, which we did. To their credit, there was no charge for the meals, but it was a shame. Such great potentiel wasted by sheer incompetence by the wait staff.

VERY helpful front desk staff and concierge services, and they were most understanding and helpful. My problem at the restaurant got around to them VERY quickly, and they were very solicitious and apolegetic.

Overall, a pretty good stay -- not perfect, but pretty good. The restaurant will NOT be on my " must do' list when I return.

Just returned from a 3 night stay at this hotel. Husband surprised me with a trip to Rome and this hotel made the trip even better than I could of imagined. Hotel location is perfect, in a quite little street which is perfect after a hectic day of sightseeing around Rome with the crowds! About a 5 minute walk to the Spanish steps and a 15-20 min walk to the Pantheon and Piazza Novona. Rome is a very easy city to walk around so we didnt use a taxi once during our stay, loved going back to this hotel after a day out. Roof terrace has amazing views over Rome - very expensive for a drink though - we paid 15 euros for two small diet cokes - but the whole terrace atmosphere and view is very beautiful. We had a deluxe room which was massive for a city hotel, huge bed which was very comfortable plus a little seating area and table and then a massive bathroom. the room was spotlessly clean, although was a little surprsied as there was some marks on the carpets/ the bathroom looked a little worn in places and for the class of hotel I didnt expect this. Also no tea/coffee making facilities in the room so every morning we had to order Room service for a tea and coffee. However do not let these minor points put you off. This is a very classy hotel overall, very classic Roman feel with a modern twist on decor which we really liked. Hermes toiletires in the bathroom and turn down service every evening offering fresh towels etc. We have stayed in some stunning hotels around the world and this hotel definately is up there with them. We didnt eat in the hotel, the restuarant was in the basement and did seem a bit dark and soul-less down there - but there are sooo many places to eat in Rome you will not starve!

Overall if I went back to rome I would not hesitate to stay at this gorgeous hotel again.

All I can say is - what a disappointment! I've been fighting for my money for over 3 months. I wanted to simply reserve a room for August, not book, and guess what? They flat out charged me the full amount even though I cancelled my reservation! I never even authorized them to charge! Now I am in a huge dispute with my credit card, I've written to the headquarters in France, and I've even called Italy, and get the same run around. Such unhospitable behavior. And this claims to be 5-star. Hilarious.

We stayed in the Sofitel, Rome for two nights. We found it was a nice way to get away from the noiseness of the hotels closer to attractions such as the Trevi Fountain. It was probably a 10 minute walk from the hotel to the Spanish Steps, we found with a good city map it was easy to get around. The rooms were a good size, air-conditioning was wonderful as temps were over 35C++ when we were there and the staff were very helpful with questions and recommendations for local restaurants and made reservations for us.
