“Lovely Hotel”
Reviewed 3 August 2011

The Sofitel Villa Borgese is a really good hotel. The staff were always helpful and considerate. The room was small but perfectly adequate with everything you would expect from a 5 star hotel; it was clean, well tended and the turn down service was nice. The location was OK - it was a little walk from the major sites such as the Trevi Fountain or Piazza Navona, which wouldn't be so bad if it wasn't mostly uphill. There are a number of restaurants near the hotel, although be aware that those on Via Veneto are very expensive, even for Rome.
Given this, I would still recommend this hotel, the room and the service were both great and it made for a very good stay in Rome.

We stayed at the hotel for 4 nights in July. I often use Sofitel hotels and am rarely disappointed but this time I was. The best part was the breakfast quality and the friendliness of the staff there. The worst parts are the location, the room decoration which needs to be refreshed and the noise in the room. The room doors are far to be soundproof and I woke up early every morning with the noise of staff or guests talking in the corridor. From my room, I could also hear the nearby disco in the park of Villa Borghese (thursdays, fridays and saturdays!). Won't return.

My husband and I wanted to stay near the Spanish Steps, and the Sofitel was a wonderful choice for relaxing after busy days of shopping and sightseeing . We enjoyed the relative quietness of the immediate area, while all the shopping and tourist sites were a short walk away. The staff was consistently warm and professional during our four day stay. The breakfast offered by the hotel was amazing, fresh squeezed juices and pressed coffees for starters, while the breakfast room staff were very accomodating and the service was perfect. We tried the brand new roof top restaurant/lounge for drinks in the evening, and the service was fine, a bit slow, but the views were spectacular. Loved our time there, and hope to return soon!

Room Tip: Our room was very quiet, on the fourth floor, looking towards the park.

We stayed here for three days. We had two adjoining "family" rooms. The check in was easy despite a group of tourists checking in at the same time. The front desk was always helpful and their English was excellent. The rooms were great. The king size matress was so comfortable I'm considering buying one. The restaurant on the roof was excellent. If you're going to have dinner and watch the sun set, don't forget your sunglasses.

Room Tip: Higer rooms will have a better view of the park

A wonderful hotel. Very helpful staff, clean and comfortable rooms and a good location. I did find it to be a bit pricey however. The upstairs (La Terrace) restaurant has a phenomenal view - however the service was somewhat slow but still much better than any of the surrounding neighborhood restaurants.

Stayed here for 4 nights with family ( 3 rooms in all) and they were all very nice. Well appointed, reasonably spacious rooms, well equipped bathrooms. Pretty much what you would expect from an upscale " Via Veneto" area hotel. It is a bit far from the action, but a quick taxi ride fixes that. But that is a consideration when choosing this spot, and the "quid pro quo" for a quiet location, perhaps.
The hotel seemed to me, however, to be inconsistent. Maid service was always a surprise to see what would be "re-stocked" in the way of towels, facecloths, toiletries, etc. Housekeeping didn't show up for one room on one day, saying the "Do Not Disturb sign" was on the door. Not so, as that particular room was MISSING the sign!. They apologized, and immediately took care of the room and left some complimentary goodies as a "sorry" gesture. Evening turn down was also "hit or miss". Overall, though, not big problems.

The Panoramic restaurant, however, was a great disappointment. That whole operation needed some adult supervision, as it was difficult to get anyones attention up there to even get in to see it, make a reservation, or, when we finally arrived for our dinner reservation, to get anyone to acknowledge we were even there! Finally, after stopping a waiter, he pointed to our table and said we can take it whenever we wanted! Very unprofessional and chaotic .Service at the restaurant was also chaotic, the food( when it came) was mixed up with another table and completely out of sequence ( we ordered the tasting menu for 3 of 6 at the table). When the improper food was pointed out to the waiter ( my wife had actually cut into the serving before realizing it was not ours), the waiter argued, then removed the wrong dish, and SERVED IT TOTHE TABLE NEXT TO OURS. Hello!! it had been touched and "partially" eaten. We pointed it out to the lady M'aitre d', who seemed appalled, to her credit, and tried to fix our table problems by replacing our waiter with herself. But by then things were totally confused, the meals horribly out of sequence with 20 minutes needed to even begin to recover, so, after 2 hours and one course served( improperly) we told her we were leaving, which we did. To their credit, there was no charge for the meals, but it was a shame. Such great potentiel wasted by sheer incompetence by the wait staff.

VERY helpful front desk staff and concierge services, and they were most understanding and helpful. My problem at the restaurant got around to them VERY quickly, and they were very solicitious and apolegetic.

Overall, a pretty good stay -- not perfect, but pretty good. The restaurant will NOT be on my " must do' list when I return.
