“Nice lovely hotel, with great location.”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 13 September 2011

We stayed here in August 2010. We had the luxury room in the corner of the last floor. Which is just so nice. A view with vatican far away.

Room is of Sofitel standard, nothing to complaint. And in their terrace, we got some decent food, not excellent, but not bad. with a very nice view.

Bar tender and restaurant manager were so great with us, just make our stay better.

The location of the hotel is perfect. Not far from anything (Rome is small anyway), but seated in a very quiet area.

Room Tip: take the corner rooms, very nice view!

I lived in Bologna for a year in college and have made several trips to Rome since, but when planning our trip to Italy (my husband's first -- Rome, Florence, Venice, Bologna) I still did a huge amount of research for hotels.

We stayed in two separate places book-ending the trip -- The Hotel Minerva (near the Pantheon -- also amazing) for the first 2 nights and the Sofitel Villa Borghese for the last 3. I honestly cannot say enough about it. The highlights:

-Roomy (we're used to NYC standards), impeccably clean, comfortable room
-Good-sized bathroom with huge tub (Hermes bath products!)
-Amazingly friendly and helpful staff (we were welcomed with a bottle of Prosecco and a hand written note since it was our wedding anniversary)
-Concierge was knowledgeable and made reservations for us at absolutely delicious restaurants in the neighborhood (we love good food :)
-Daily breakfast spread (which was included in our rate, but may not always be, so check if you decide to book) was fantastic.

The hotel is a teeny bit off the beaten path (especially from our perspective, having stayed at the Minerva right in the heart of the city earlier in the week) but it's definitely in walking distance to many restaurants, shops and the metro. Plus, as it's *right* on the park (Borghese), it's quiet.

We really loved The Sofitel Villa Borghese and will absolutely stay again on our next visit to Rome.

We were expecting more from our stay at Rome's Sofitel. We stayed for 4 nights while on a family vacation. We had to book 2 rooms and got rooms next door to each other. My children were in one room and we were in another. One of the rooms had a loud air conditioner noise that they could not fix right away so they gave us another room down the hall so my husband and one child had to sleep there which left me alone in my room...not ideal. The prices in the hotel restaurant/bar were ridiculous. We got back to the hotel late one night and the local bars were closed and we wanted gelato so we went to the hotel rooftop restaurant and even though it was not closed yet they obviously wanted us to take it back to our rooms to eat it which we did....it was over 60 euros for 5 small scoops of gelato. It was so overpriced. The concierge booked us a private tour of both the Roman Coluseum and the Vatican, one each day. On the second day, we had booked a 3 hour tour and after about 1.5 hours the tourguide told us that he had to leave after just 2 hours. We were not told by the Sofitel that the guide could only do 2 hours. Frustrating. The worst part of the stay was that they were doing painting in the area right outside our rooms. They got there early in the morning and the smell of paint was all in our room. Since we had our kids next door we were walking back and forth between the rooms and had to walk around scaffolding and paint buckets....totally unacceptable if you ask me. They should have painted areas that had vacancies or purposely not booked rooms near where they had to paint. We just felt that the hotel was not up to par at all. They did end up taking one night's stay off our bill b/c we had to leave our room that one night b/c the room was noisy. I would not recommend this place at all.

We stayed at the Sofitel Villa Borghese for 4 nights un June this year. I researched all the hotels we stayd at on Trip Adivsor and was very happy with this hotel. The taxi driver from the station to the hotel overcharged us badly and conceirge was most apologetic and very helpful with our luggage. This brightened our day. We had a late lunch in the Terrace restaurant and our waiter was most helpful. We also had dinner at La Terasse that evening. The view was incredible at sunset and we have many lovely photos of the Vatican etc. Breakfast was amazing, all anyone could ever desire. It was very hot while we were in rome and so we spent much time in our room which was not very large. I celebrated my 70th birthday while at the Sofitel and we had dinner that night at the Cafe de Paris in the via Veneto. The walk back up the hill from the Trevi Fountain and other attractions was steep but OK. We explored the lounge and other areas of this beautiful old world hotel. I would definitely stay there again.

From the moment we arrived, the staff made us feel welcome and were so helpful in planning an itinerary. Thanks to them we saw the whole of Rome within three days, at a leisurely pace, and walked to all the attractions, which was perfect. The hotel is situated near the Spanish Steps, and all the other attractions are in walking distance, if possible do walk around the city, you will discover so much more and appreciate all the sights, and the ice creams and coffee and snacks along the way!

The hotel itself is well located, the staff are faultless and the rooms were good. Make a point to enjoy a sunset on the roof terrace, you get an amazing view of Rome.

My wife and I stayed at the Sofitel Villa Borghese for three nights toward the end of June. From check in to departure, the Sofitel exceeded our expections.

We arrived exhausted mid day on a Wednesday, and walked into a suprisingly crowded but beautful lobby. The lobby is small, with a check in desk that accomodated three staff. I was a little taken aback by the line, but it moved quickly, apart from a guest in front of me complaining about the location of the room he was assigned. The desk clerk handled the issue deftly, and it was my turn.

I found the process easy and efficient. I thought the desk clerk was showing a sense of humor when I was told that, unlike the person in front of me, if I did not like my room, there was nothing they could do because I had the best room in the house. What I did not realize at the time was that it was not a joke!

The Sofitel had upgraded us to one of the nicest suites in the hotel. We were on the same floor as the rooftop restaurant and bar and had the same view off of a large and beautiful terrace. The room was everything you would expect from a suite and more. We had a full terrace with a spectacular and expansive view that overlooked the city, with both a sitting area and outdoor dining table. Breakfast on the terrace in the morning was spectacular. The two room suite was large, quiet, and comfortable.

I thought the location was great. It was far enough from the hustle and bustle to be quiet but a very short walk to both Via Veneto and the Spanish Steps. We were able to walk to virtually every tourist site in the city except the Vatican.

We did not eat dinner or lunch in the hotel so I can't speak to the food other than for breakfast. One day we had the buffet. It was very good, but it is pricey. As I mentioned above, we did have breakfast on our terrace, which was wonderful. But if you don't have a terrrace, I would recommend walking out the door of the hotel, turning left, and eating breakfast at one of the several cafes down the street.

We relied upon the concierge to make suggestions and book our evening meals each night. All of the choices provided by the concierge were right on target. On one of our dinners we told the concierge we wanted to venture out some, and we were sent to an interesting area we would not have otherwise visited.

Everybody we dealt with at the hotel from the desk clerk to the bell hops were friendly and helpful. I would absolutely recommend the Sofitel to anyone I know traveling to Rome. The Sofitel was a pefect launching pad for both exploring Rome and getting our tour of Italy off on the right foot.

We just came back from Rome after a four nights stay at the Sofitel. It is a very nice hotel in a great location. It's only 30 minutes from the hussle and bussle of Piazza Navona (by foot) and it offers the most beautiful views over Rome from the top floor bar. We were lucky enough to have our room in the upper floor (6th) and the view from it was astonishing. The room is not very big but is nicely appointed with all the bits you expect from a 5 star hotel. Reception staff and breakfast staff were very professional and friendly. The breakfast is particularly good for Italy with a large choice of cold and hot dishes.
One downside, the staff at the bar "The Boston" was very rude and not friendly at all.
Altogether it was a lovely experience and we will definetely come back.

Room Tip: top floor rooms have wonderful views over the city of Rome
