A friend and I met in Rome for a couple of night , having booked separately. Unfortunately there was a problem with one of the bookings, as they were overbooked. The staff were very apologetic and did all they could to make it right for us . I was accommodated next door in a much better room than I had booked. We had complementary breakfast the next day (30e buffet continental breakfast -huge choice , and freshly squeezed juices and excellent pastiies) and a card for 2 'coupe de champagne'. I was helped to the next door hotel. The following day I had a double upgrade in room at the Sofitel. The staff were excellent and I felt very valued as a customer.
The roof top restaurant with lovely views was fully booked for tables with the view so we ate very well next door.
We liked the Hermes toiletries in the bathroom, which was adequately equipped. the rooms (superior ) were on the small side but had all we needed . It seemed slightly odd to have the swag and tail of a curtain set, but no curtain. The blackout curtain behind a cream net however worked well.
Overall we were happy and did not feel that it seemed at all old fashioned in other reviews !

Room Tip: 403 had a reasonable view over gardens

Sofitel is a hilltop hotel, located next to the Borghese Gardens and only 6-8minutes walk from the Spanish Steps. The location is very convenient and the area makes you feel safe and comfortable to walk around. The hotel reception shows to be a little outdated, but as a whole, the hotel is lovely, clean, and the staff very polite and extremely helpful.
We booked a standard double room and the one that they gave us had street views. The noise from the street was not an issue at all as we could hear nothing while we were in the room. The bed was very big and I really loved the mattress and the pillows. I had a great night sleep which was exactly what I needed after spending the whole day walking around the streets of Rome. The bathroom was also very good and they offer Hermes toiletries. The hotel service clean the rooms once a day and they change towels twice a day.
I also had dinner at the rooftop restaurant which has amazing views (I will write a separate review under the restaurant section).
Note: during check out they mentioned to us that we have to pay "overnight accommodation city tax" (as its called) and for 4, 5-Star Hotels the amount is 3 Euros per person per night. Not that it would make any difference, but I believe that it would be nice to mention this to the clients during the check in and not during the check out.
Finally, the day of departure, I found very helpful the fact that with 5 min notice, they can call a taxi to take you to the airport and the cost from the hotel to Fiumicino airport, according to current prices, is 48 euros. This really made my departure so much easier.
Overall, I totally recommend this hotel.

We spent 4 nights at the Sofitel Villa Borghese. The personal service was first class - Francesca and Theresa were both extremely nice and helpful and made us feel very welcome indeed. Concierge staff and the door men too were charming. At breakfast we were looked after by very attentive and polite staff and the choice and quality of the food was excellent. Our superior room was very comfortable and the hotel is located centrally but in a very nice quiet spot. To top all of this, there is a wonderful roof top bar which has amazing views over the city. I couldn't rate the hotel and the staff more highly and would love to go back when next in Rome. Thanks to all at Sofitel Roma. A presto!

Everything was great about this hotel with one little exception - it's a little dated for a 5 star experience. Some renovation especially in the bathrooms is needed. Great food in the rooftop restaurant. Would return if back in Rome .

We stayed here for 2 nights on a post cruise visit and thoroughly enjoyed the experience. The hotel staff were extremely friendly and helpful and nothing seemed to be too much trouble. The view from the roof terrace at sunset is fantastic. We had a deluxe room and it was very comfortable with everything you could ask for. We would definitely recommend this property for a vacation in Rome and for its excellent location and numerous nearby restaurants.

Great to know that in spite of the European standards this one meets the Asian hospitality in a way. The hotel has a perfect location , a very friendly and English speaking staff and a superb breakfast. Our highlights were interesting tours that we have booked via the concierge. Andrea, the guide, has outstanding communication skills in perfect English and had an extensive knowledge of the history and culture of his city. And the lines in this mega tourism city were skipped as promised!. The only surprisingly negative side of our stay was the seemingly worn out condition of the mattresses of the beds (a hole in the center). A bit of a contradiction with the My-bed experience that the Accor hotels chain advertises and my experience with Sofitel , but the management apologized for the inconvenience and promised to put more effort to hold on to that standard. In spite of that , worthwhile in every sense of a nice stay.

We stayed here last week for 4 nights and were thoroughly impressed with the total hotel and experience. The rooms were beautifully decorated, the bathroom had a great shower and tub and included toiletries from Hermes. We had a room in the front of the building and had a view of the street and gardens across the way. The rooftop bar with terrace was beautiful, great view of St Peter's Basilica, although we didn't eat there. There are some nice restaurants within a few blocks and the Via Veneto is also a short walk away. The service was exceptional. We called housekeeping a few times, and they were there promptly. The best part of the whole experience was the wonderful bed, so comfortable it was hard to leave in the morning. Also, the Villa Borghese gardens are a few blocks away and a walk through them should not be missed.
