“A perfect choice”
Reviewed 17 June 2005

We have just returned from a 4-night stay at the Hotel Nazionale in Rome, and were very pleased with this hotel. The location is ideal for a tourist, since it is very centrally located in the old city, about 2 blocks from the Pantheon -very close to many popular places like the Piazza Navona & Trevi Fountain, and no more than a 20 minute walk to more distant attraction such as the Vatican, Forum, Spanish Steps, etc..
The hotel is very quiet, unlike many in Rome, because it is on the Piazza Montecitorio, which also faces the Parliament building - so there is absolutely no traffic going by the hotel (and plenty of policemen around). Taxis have access to the hotel, but have to turn around and go out the way they came in.
The rooms & bathrooms were much larger than we had ever experienced in Europe before - we had a standard double and a single. In fact, the single was about the size we would expect for a standard double. The air conditioning was plentiful, and more than adequate for June. The staff is helpful and polite and they all speak good English. The breakfast was good, if standard - meats & cheeses, cereals, breads, etc.
If this hotel is within your price range, I heartily recommend it. We have traveled to Rome several times, and if we ever go back this will be our first choice for a hotel.

We stayed 9 nights in this hotel. As 1st time visitors to Rome, it was the perfect location to all the "must see" sights. Within walking distance to everything. Because it is located in a private piazza, we not only felt safe, but it was a nice respite from the noisy streets of Rome. The staff was always friendly and very helpful. Our rooms were standard and small. Only downside was the lack of sufficient furniture space to put clothing. Overall, a great choice!

I just returned from a 5 day solo trip to Rome and my stay in the Nazionale made the trip spectacular! As the previous reviewers have said, the location could NOT be beat. A great central location just off Via Del Corso, and literally a 2 minute walk to the Pantheon, 5 minute walk to Trevi Fountain, 10 minutes to the Spanish Steps, Piazza Navona, and Campo dei Fiori. The Nazionale staff could not have been nicer. They gave me terrific directions to anywhere I needed to go, offered to arrange transportation for me, and always had a smile on their faces. My room was small but the bathroom was huge by European standards. The breakfast was in the typical afterthought European fashion but I definitely appreciated the available room service. If I ever go back to Rome, there is no doubt where I’ll be staying.

We stayed 25th Feb till 28th Feb 2005. Originally booked into the Hotel White but transferred to this hotel (White overbooked or something).
We could not have been more delighted with the location and the service provided by the staff of the Nazionale.
The view from the room looked out over the parliament piazza. The bed was king size (i'm 1.93mtrs tall), it was furnished very tastefully.
We would highly recommend this hotel.
We were able to walk and see all the main sites and the Vatican is only a short taxi ride away. What a fanatastic weekend!

The hotel is perfectly located in a quite square right near the Pantheon, and in walking distance of every other main attraction. It is just steps away from the main shopping street, but also set back away from all the noise and crowds in a gorgeous little area with charming restaurants.

We got a great deal through their website (nazionaleroma) in a superior room - pay 2 nights, stay 3, which worked out at about £130 a night. The room was absolutely beautiful with high ceilings, a view from windows with enormous shutters onto the square and gorgeous furniture.

The service was great too, and we would definitely stay here again.

We spent 4 nights at the Hotel Nazionale. Having consulting pictures and comments on this sites we were curios to see what room we would get. Although the hotel was far from full, we were given a room with minimal furniture: 2 beds, 2 chairs, a small round table, and that was all! After complaining we were allocated a very nice room with a view on the roofs of Rome, with St Peter's and the Castello St Angelo as a backdrop. The only slight drawback was a slight smell of sewage in the bathroom.
We fail to understand the allocation of the 1st. room. Was it because we were simple tourists instead of businessmen, and do not belong to the VIP category?

Absolutely can not beat the location of this hotel. Staying in the heart of things gave us much better memories of Rome than previous trips when we stayed in other areas. We booked and payed for a standard guest room and were checked in to what must have been a small suite. Our living room looked out over the quiet square and the bedroom (and huge bath) looked out over the top of the Pantheon. Throwing open those shutters each morning was priceless. The service at the front desk was adequate and the restaurant was above average. And the best gelato shop is literally right around the corner!
