“Nice hotel but too far from everything”
Reviewed 8 July 2014

We stayed in two Rome hotels during our visit. We picked Crowne Plaza for our last night as it was closer to the airport. However, if you are able to afford it is definitely worth staying closer into the city as we wasted a lot of time traveling back and forth. We were going to use the hotel shuttle for pick up from the city center but were given vague information as to where it would pick us up which meant we wasted a lot of time waiting and then after that had to walk to get public transit back to the hotel. Breakfast was quite expensive so didn't bother getting it at the hotel.

Room Tip: We were given a room at the end of the hall which was very quiet and overlooked the pool.

Dear FrequentFlier1,

Thank you for your feedback following your recent stay with us.

I'm glad to read that you found our hotel nice.

Regarding the location, allow me to put on record, that as you mentioned, the Hotel offers a regular courtesy bus (1,50€ one way, 3€ return), greatly appreciated from all our guest staying with us. The bus runs on a regular basis to St. Peter's Basilica in the morning (9-10-11-12) and to the heart of the city center (Trastevere) in the afternoon (16-17-19-20-21) and evening. Moreover 2 different public busses are available just at the doorstep of the hotel to reach downtown which is only 3 km far from our Hotel), or reach the nearest metro station and in 20 minutes discover all the main attractions in the heart of Rome. In addition Taxis are always readily available (taxi stand on site in our car park) and cost only 12 euros to get in to the city center.

The Crowne Plaza Rome-St. Peter’s is an urban resort featuring facilities that of course you won’t be able to find in a more central location such as gardens, 25m length swimming pool, pool bar, Spa, tennis courts, large comfortable bedrooms and extensive free parking facilities.

We very much hope to have the opportunity to welcome you back to the Crowne Plaza St. Peter’s on your next visit to Rome!

With kind regards,

We stayed for three nights on our city break great start hotel provides a shuttle service to and from the airport for 14€ great value saves being ripped of by the taxis. Room was well appointed huge bed and nice settees bathroom however quite small but adequate .breakfast good lots to choose from restautant staff very friendly .one dissappointment however was that hotel was quite far outfrom the town but you could use hotel shuttle for1.50€.surrounding area quite scruffy loads of overflowing bins all over the roads could do with better directions on how to get around using buses and the metro overall had a great stay.

Room Tip: Try to get a room overlooking the swimming pool much nicer than the carpark view we had

We stayed here for 4 nights for my daughters 16th birthday. I chose this hotel because it had a pool and what better way to relax after a days sightseeing than with a swim. On arrival check in was easy and we were given lots of information and maps to ensure we had everything we needed. Our room was on the 5th floor, two queen beds. The room was nothing spectacular but the beds were really comfortable and the towels good quality, the rooms were clean and comfortable and we had a balcony with furniture in case we wanted to sit outside. The only negative point was the air conditioning unit was old and somewhat noisy. The breakfast was good, with a good variety. We ate in the papillon restaurant and the food was always very good. The bar was also excellent and the bar manager such a helpful guy. The swimming pool was a delight......1.4 mt at the shallow end and 3.57 mt at the deep end.....surrounded by sun beds and towels available from the lifeguard on duty. Every member of staff we met were extremely helpful, it makes a great change to have such a level of customer service.......they did everything they could to ensure our stay was enjoyable. The hotel runs a shuttle to the Vatican area for 1.50 euros one way, we used this and it was well worth it. We took several taxis into and out of Rome they were on average 15.00 euros. I would certainly use this hotel again following a really enjoyable stay.

I was surprised as I walked in at how old it seemed...but
I admit when I got to the room, the beds were very inviting and comfortable. The extras like the towels, robes and pillows and sheets, small chocolates, free waters, balcony chairs and table etc., admittedly made me feel great and welcomed. The tub kept clogging though when I showered :(
Although it is an old place, I would probably come back again because of the welcome I felt in the room..and I wish they would strip the place of the stuffy carpeting though..
One bad thing for me was I had put a do not disturb sign but the maids still came into my room which annoyed me.

This large hotel has comfortable beds and a beautiful pool. Crown Point is a big name, and there are advantages to that. It was clean, safe, the rooms were comfortable, and it was close to the bus stop. There is a restaurant next to the hotel that was reasonably priced and had good food.

I knew I would be outside the main tourist area of Rome, but I thought the hotel would be better set up to transport people downtown. They didn't know how we would get to Coliseum. They sold bus tickets but didn't have schedules. There is a shuttle that runs "downtown" for euro 1.5 per person. We rode it around in a loop and ended back at the hotel because we never saw a "downtown" area. I still don't know where that bus goes, but it's not near the tourist area of Rome. The agent at the front desk would not refund our money because she said sometimes people just ride the shuttle in a circle and they don't know why. Surprise - it's because they are waiting to get downtown!

We enjoyed the large facility and being away from the crowds of Rome. I would say if you pick this hotel bring your own goggle-type-maps with public transportation routed out for you before you arrive.

Dear Joan T,

Thank you for taking the time to share your comments and to have chosen the Crowne Plaza Rome-St. Peter’s.

We are very glad to know that you found the hotel comfortable, with beautiful pool and high Crowne Plaza standard.

We are terribly sorry to learn your problems experienced with front desk staff, that judging from many reviews they are always knowledgeable and professional and, even when overburdened and busy, they do their utmost to satisfy the guests’ needs in a nice manner and deliver information about transportations, monuments .

Our shuttle bus take you at the Vatican area in the morning and in the hearth of the ancient and monumental Rome, along the Tevere River in the afternoon and evening. Sometimes our guests decide to make a roundtrip just to a have a quick sightseeing of the City, but I will make sure that the driver of the bus will announce each stop in order to avoid misunderstanding in the future.

We have discussed the points you have raised with our Front Office Manager (responsible also for Concierge operations). We know they share our vision of providing the best guest experience possible, and we are confident they will take the necessary steps to continue to improve their services and they will be more vigilant to be sure that similar inconvenience will not be repeated in the future.

Once again, we appreciate you taking the time to share your comments with us and we do hope to have the opportunity to welcome you back to our Crowne Plaza in the future and restore your faith in the Hotel.
