“A nice B&B with a great location!”
Reviewed 9 November 2013

When mid October rolled out and the English weather really started showing itself, we had the idea of going to Rome for a weekend; Saturday morning to Sunday night. The main attraction of the visit was the Vatican, as the majority of other sights we've seen on former visits. This B&B proved to be ideal; only a 5 minute walk to the Vatican itself, but also with good transport links with the rest of the city (buses and Line A Metro station Ottaviano). The hotel is, in fact, located on the less populated side of the Vatican, where all the cheaper souvenir shops are located.

The room itself is large and quiet, without hearing Rome's cars. The beds were comfortable and the breakfast quite good, with a bowl of ready made sandwiches, toast, coffee, tea and croissants. WiFi is free, though you do have to ask for the password to the network.

Near the B&B, on the other side of the Vatican, are my favourite pizzeria and gelateria in Rome, Pizzeria Rustica and Old Bridge Gelato.

This B&B isn't the cheapest, but you are paying for the unique location.

Overall, this is a great B&B and I would highly recommend it.

We were just after a clean and safe bed at night near the Vatican so this place was perfect. A 5 minute walk to the Vatican if that. The room had everything we needed and had a decent amount of room. It was extremely quiet in the apartment block and we didn't hear a thing from anyone else our whole stay. Roberta made us feel very welcome and was helpful organising private transfers and anything we needed. She was very prompt replying to emails and alleviated any fears we had travelling halfway around the world.

I booked this break as it was a city both my fiance and I wanted to visit. We stayed at the Vatican Window for 3 nights (Fri, Sat & Sun). The location is great for the Vatican and is easily reached by booking a bus from the airport to the termini then getting on the metro line A to St Peters square. The transfer time is about an hour and cost us a return price of 28.00 euros a taxi return would cost 80.00 euros return!

The Vatican Window is a strange B&B in as much as the owner Roberta isnt on site, so its more like renting a room in a house. I booked the room with its own bathroom as I knew my partner would not like to share a bathroom. However when we stayed we had the entire place to ourselves. The room itself was very pleasant and the bed nice and comfy, the description of a continental breakfast is misleading, on the first morning Roberta bought us a croissant each and we had a cup of tea, that was it no meats or cheeses etc. She did return a little later with some cornflakes and there is a bowl left out with muffins as well as teabags, there is also a little kitchen area containing a fridge/freezer and an oven, the rooms themselves have no drink making facilities so you walk down the hall to the kitchen.

Roberta only left us with a few tea bags so I had to scour the kitchen cupboards for more which wasnt a problem. On Sunday morning Roberta doesnt come to the house to sort 'breakfast' and we were told to use the cafe across the road, a drink, croissant and a toasted sandwich were provided at no cost. There is a very quaint lift which takes you down the stairs as the B&B itself is located on the third floor in a larger building. Overall we liked the Vatican Window and with a bit of a makeover it could be very nice, its clean but failry basic, its main selling point is its location, there are lots of bars and cafes on the doorstep and as soon as you walk a few yards you can see the white travetine columns of St Peters Square.

Would I return if I was to stay in this part of Rome?
Yes

Roberta is very pleasant and happily sat down on the Saturday morning to chat whilst we drank our tea and ate our croissant.
