Review of Hotel Verona
4.0 of 5 bubblesReviewed 12 Sept 2016
Stayed here Aug 2016 whilst on a birthday trip. Perfect location close to restaurants and next door to small grocery shop (with lovely wine!). Nice budget hotel. The room itself was fairly basic, small (we had a corner room) but clean with everything we needed including a small balcony which was a nice surprise. The staff were generally very friendly and helpful. Decent breakfast. On our final day in Rome, we were also able to store our luggage in the hotel lobby for free - bonus! Would visit again.

This fine establishment acted as a perfect base in the centre of Rome while we explored all the major attractions. The room was a little small, however very sufficient as we only used it to sleep and wash. It was clean and fresh towels were provided when needed.
Breakfast consisted of a selection of continental options which were tasty and the eating area was lovely. The staff were extremely helpful when providing directions, information and booking taxis. Overall, a great hotel to stay in while in the beautiful city of Rome.

We stayed here for three nights from 25th August on a Jet2 city break. The hotel is in an ideal location, very near to the train station and an easy walk to the Trevi Fountain and the Colesseum. The Vatican a little further, for which we used the Metro. A taxi back from the Pantheon cost 10 euros, including tip. Having said that, we walked over 25 miles in the three days.

As we were arriving on our wedding anniversary, I emailed the hotel to ask if they could put a bottle of sparking wine (which I paid for) in our room, and Alessendro went to great lengths to make sure they provided what I wanted, even to the wording to go on a card beside the wine. The same e-mail asked if we could just drop our cases in as we would arrive about 1.00pm, which is before check in time - but Alessandro arranged for the room to be available (without extra charge) from 12.00 noon - so we arrived at the hotel about 1.00pm, checked in, unpacked the 'essentials' and were out sightseeing by 1.30pm!

Our room was very good, quite well appointed and very clean, with a generous supply of toiletries etc. It was cleaned every day to a high standard. There were no tea/coffee facilities, which we knew about, so took a travel kettle and 'one way' mugs. The free room safe was big enough to take our ipad, passports, etc, but would not have accommodated a laptop. Our room (at the back) had a small balcony with a couple of chairs - ideal for a tipple before bed. There is no bar/restaurant, but I can well recommend the restaurant next door - we ate there on two of the evenings, with the third being at a restaurant beside the Spanish Steps (big mistake, only the second time I have not left a tip!) The small shop, also next door, is idea for wine, beer, etc, and there is no problem in taking these into the hotel, either on the breakfast patio or lounge beside it, as well as your room, of course.

The 'eat and much as your like' breakfast was the same each day, but was easily enough to set you up for the day and keep you going until the evening meal. No problem in asking the lovely lady 'through the hatch' for meat, cheese and egg. You can eat breakfast in the comfort of the outside patio.

All the staff were very helpful and very friendly, and in coming back into the hotel always remembered our room number before we asked for the key (not sure what that says about us! ha ha).

All in all, a great choice of hotel, with which we were well pleased and would have no hesitation in staying here again if we were to return to Rome (we did throw coins into the Trevi Fountain to help a return trip happen!).

Room tip: Hotel has five floors and a lift. Our room on the back overlooked the garden and breakfast area.

A friendly hotel convenient for all the sights. Rooms small but large enough. Clean. Staff friendly and helpful. Breakfast tasty, fresh and filling. Decent tea. Toiletries replaced daily, even if not finished/empty. No tea/coffee in room. Many cafes and restaurants nearby. Very small lift. Air conditioning. We had two rooms on different sides of the hotel, one room was much hotter than the other.

We arrived 6 days ago and we were told our room was on the 5th floor... there is a lift so no problem.

The room was all ready, clean and the hotel provides plenty of towels.

On first entering the room I felt it was a bit small although there were only two of us. After unpacking and opening the windows to let some light in, the room had a much nicer appearance.

The air conditioning helps as it was very humid in Rome and there was a television and mini bar.

Breakfast was good and there was a fair choice... we left very early on two mornings for organised trips but we were allowed to have breakfast early.. normally starts at 07.30 - 10.00.

There are some nice shops and restaurants around the hotel so there was no need to go into central Rome... 10 minutes walk from the Metro and Termini station...so very well placed for travelling.

Everybody in the hotel was polite and helpful and the cleaners do a wonderful job. It is a basic hotel... no bar.. no restaurant and no laundry or room service BUT we had a perfectly lovely stay. It's in a side street off Via Cavour, so lovely and quiet during the night. 😊

We will return....

It is not located in the center of major atractions of Rome, but it is close to the major ruins, and have easy acces to metro and the central train station. However, not a crowded place. You can find restaurants and stores in the block. The rooms were very good and the staff friendly and helpful.

Room tip: Lower levels get easier access. Night noises shouldn't be a problem.
