Perfectly located in the city. Within walking distance of most attractions. The hotel is spotless. The staff is very very friendly and really could not do enough to help you. The breakfast was excellent. The room was on the small side, but really, are you there to sit in the room or sightsee?.! The bathroom was great and perfect size. The only drawback and keeping from getting 5 stars was the air conditioning. It was cooler than outside, but not cool enough for our liking. Every night we woke up in the middle the night sweaty, but again, it was cooler than outside. It was early August when we were there and temps were well over 100F. The elevator is on the small side and the lobby is beautiful. I would definitely stay here again, but not in July or August, Rome is just too HOT!.

Ideally situated! Everything is within walking distance as Rome is certainly somewhere you will be doing a lot of walking to see everything! The Vatican is maybe too far to walk, 45mins/1hr, so we decided to get the train/tube and it was 2min walk to station and very cheap! A bit of work was being carried out on our corridor when we stayed in Feb 2010, carpets being relayed etc. but work stopped early and started late so didnt affect us! Breakfast was great way to get us ready for a long day of sightseeing which is inevitable when there is so much to see nearby! Rome is a very romantic city indeed!

Room Tip: For a good base in a quiet area, to see Rome in a short time this is perfect!

A great hotel in a great location. The hotel is set in just the right location for all of Rome's attractions. You are only 15 mins form the Forum etc. 30 mins from Campo d'Firio and all of its restuarants and bars. The Vatican is 40 mins walk away. The hotel was spotless and the staff very friendly and helpful. Breakfast is a good standard and penetly of it. The rooms are small compared to the UK but you are only sleeping in them so ok. The air con worked really well too well for my wife. As is the usual in Rome the street sellers can abe abit of an issue but generally very friendly just say NO!

Service: great, very polite, spent an hour talking to staff in the bar, absolutely no issues watsoever

Room: we had a pleasant room, bed was kept nice and clean, bathroom was beautiful, and i felt at home after a few nights.

Location: perfect, in the middle of everything, 5-10 min walk from Trevi fountain, 10-15 from termini and its in a pleasant side street with a more than pleasant restaurant opposite. The via nazionale is the main roads which will always will be easy to get to.

Facilties: tv, air con (works well most of the time), safe in room, nice bathroom, really good beds, breakfast room (which has a reasonable selection) and bar.

Additional info: i thought the hotel looked and felt great, everything about it worked for me and my girlfriends, things just clicked into place thanks to the solidity of the hotel.

The only reason this lovely hotel isn't a 5 is because they really need to sort out the aircon which in the height of summer really needs an overhaul...it just isn't adequate. Otherwise, it ticks every box.....clean, tidy rooms, nice hard beds, good showers, more than adequate breakfasts for a three star hotel, terrific value for money and a terrific location....right on Via Nazionale and easy walking distance to Trevi, Colloseum, Piazza Venezia, Termini and so on. For us though as a family, our lasting impression of Hotel Virgilio is Raphaele, the afternoon and evening front desk manager. I've stayed in hotels all over the world but rarely have I met a more jovial, friendly, helpful and delightful hotel employee. I hope the hotel management are reading this.....he's a credit to you, the hotel and the Rome and Italian tourism industry....absolute top bloke.....we'd stay here again like a shot.
