“good located place to stay, but...”
Reviewed 8 February 2013

The best about this hotel was its location. You're able to start exploring the ancient part of Rome just on the doorstep of the house. Colosseum, Palatin, Forum Romanum it's all just about 5 minutes walk away and other famous spots are reachable within a 20-minutes-walk. The staff was ok, but not enough proactive, what I consider not sufficient for a 4* Hotel. The same can be said about the breakfast, which was served on the rooftop in a tent-like construction, almost outside. You have only a little buffet to choose from and the coffee (espresso, caffè italiano) was only served after having drawn attention to the waitress in an unusual way for a Hotel of its class. The room however was very tidy, spacious, was recently redecorated and had a nice view in direction of the Monumento Vittorio Emanuele II and Forum Romanum. Negative point: the room was too hot (and the temperature could not be regulated!) and even after having complained twice at the reception. Furthermore the traffic in front of the building is preventing you from sleeping and even more when you have to open the window twice a night in order to regulate the heat in the room. In conclusion: it's more an average 2 or 3* Hotel, but never a 4*!

The location of this hotel was perfect. It is literally a minute walk to the Colosseum and is so close we had a direct view of it from our hotel room. The staff were very approachable and helpful, providing us with a map on our arrival and highlighting key places and restaurants we may like.

The room itself was reasonable. Couple of changes I would make if it were my hotel -
1) We did not have air con - This may have been just because of the time of year but would have been an option as my partner is always too hot!
2) There was no shower head holder to attach it to the wall. - This meant you could only have baths which was not a massive issue.
3) There was only one mirror which was located in the bathroom. This meant when the other person was in there, you could not use it to get ready
4) It was a tad dark in the room.

Apart from the above the hotel was fine. None of these were huge issues, just would have been slightly better if they could have been changed. Things to note about the room however, the bed was very comfortable and I slept like a log! There was plenty of storage spaces. There is a TV however the only english channel is CNN which can drive you potty after a while. The bathroom was clean and tidy with a lovely corner bath.

We had breakfast booked also with this hotel. It is not elaborate or hot but was perfectly fine for me. They had breads, yoghurts, biscuits, fruits and fruit juices, crossaints and bakery style foods, ham and cheese boards. They also had tea and coffee (the coffee was lovely).

I would recommend this hotel if you are planning to be out and about a lot. It is not really a hotel you would spend lots of time relaxing in, it is more of a pit stop if that makes sense! The location as I said is spot on and great for walking everywhere. Also a minute away is the Colosseu 'tube station' which is how you can get to the Vatican.

Room Tip: Request a room in the refurbished area

Have just returned from the Richmond and what a lucky find this was! Newly refurbished with some finishing off to be completed but I would say 90% complete, the hotel has to be in one of the best locations in Rome! The Colosseum being 3-4 minutes in one direction, the Vittorio Emanuele Monument (Pza Venezia) 3-4mins in the other and the Forum is 2 minutes across the road! The rooms are great - comfortable beds - quiet rooms (double glazing works a treat even on the front road facing rooms!) - modern and sleek and the air-con a welcome pleasure in the heat of Roma! Breakfast is served on the Roof Top Terrace with superb views and offers a more than adequate selection of sweet and savory items - though the coffee is enough for me at that time of day! The garden is a peaceful haven to take your drinks and eats and enjoy the sun - there are plenty of eating options nearby and I would certainly recommend a stay at the Richmond for first timers or return visitors - you cant get any more in the thick of Roman life!

Room Tip: Front Facing are superb views of the Forum and 'Wedding Cake' Vittorio Emanuele Monument - n...

4 stars advertised, but it's a joke. No air conditioning, which in August is terrible. Had to keep windows open all night and could not sleep because of the traffic. Taking a shower = flooded bathroom. Strange smell in the room. Never go there.

4-night stay in this hotel advertised as a 4* antique treasure. It is being refurbished. The old part is in a poor state. The first room offered was really grubby and barely worthy of 2*. The carpets and chairs were stained and worn out years ago. Parts of the bath surface were missing. The second room offered was in the modern half of the hotel; much better but small and only 3* value. The bathroom flooded with every shower. Big disappointment.

Good position (<500m from Colosseum). Continental breakfast on outdoor roof terrace (which needed its wind protection in place in February) was reasonable but nothing special. Location is on south side of road, not north side as shown on Google maps.

If you're looking for a run of the mill room, this place will do. Although the A.C. wasn't working in my room, Fabio upgraded me to one of the newer suites on the updated end of the hotel and boy what a HUGE difference! The newer room is quite nice and very modern vs. the traditional room I had the night before. I must say, the older wing could use quite a revamp too! Wonder if the owner will get around to that... nevertheless, I had a wonderful experience as the front desk receptionists, Lapo and Fabio, were OUSTANDING and went above and beyond the call of duty to ensure that my stay was pleasant. Honestly, I truly believe they run the joint where their rude colleague fell short, they stepped in. As a solo traveler, it felt like I had a personal concierge at my beckon call. Everything was taken care of, from my transport, to local eateries, getting around, and personal requests too you name it and the fellas took special care. A very special thank you for making my stay in Rome an especially pleasant one and one that I'll remember always.

Room Tip: If you want a 'pimped out' room, go for the newer wing otherwise the older one is just fine...

We were in Rome for just one night, after 3 weeks in Tuscany! Wonderful! We stayed at Hotel Nerva, just up from the Colloseum. Really wonderful hotel. We had an early evening flight, and so headed for lunch. Decided on restaurant Angelino Al Fori. It was wonderful. We are a family of 2 adults and 3 kids and we were very pleased with food and service. The waiters are authentic, although they do play up to the tourist, but were good fun! Food was really good, and very well priced. We would go back for dinner if in Rome again. A little gem, with great ambience! Loved it...

Room Tip: Did not stay in hotel!
