Was a bit concerned after reading other reviews but we found the hotel was great, staff all very friendly & helpful. Rooms were cleaned, with clean towels changed daily. Found over looking the street very noisy at times but was to be expected as its a city. Small glitches were the lift as mentioned previous, would not take more than 3 small people or would be overweight. Breakfast, yes its not great & very cramped but hey u can get a good feed from yogs, eggs, meats, fruit, cakes, biscuits, pastries, cheese plus tea & coffee! It was an overall nice stay

Close to train station. Rooms clean and suitable for our pre-cruise 2 day stay. the FREE breakfast was awesome, something for everyone. Dining area had table cloths, table service and latte coffee. Dining room off of the lobby in 4 little rooms, never a problem getting a table.Elevator was small but never a problem going up or down. Hotel on a few floors. The hotel is in a pre-war apartment building. Lobby had two free computers to use. Front desk covered 24/7.Usually an English speaking person on duty. Staff very pleasant and helpful. Quickly tried to help in any way possible. Safe area and close to trains. No problems with credit card payments or monetary transactions.Linens changed every 3-4 days, towels changed daily. Large double windows opening to the street. Once shut, very little outside distractions. Would definitely return again.

Room Tip: ask for a room in area near elevator. Otherwise you must go thru a series of inner doors.

Great location just a short walk from Termini Station. Sonya is just a 3 star hotel with great staff that did its best to please. The location is great as it is easily walking distance to Metro and central Rome attractions.

The staff was very kind and supportive. Breakfast was good enough to get full . Room was small but clean and comfortable. The location is excellent, an easy walk to Termini Train & bus station.

The elevator was pretty small but that is to be expected ,The water in the shower was difficult to regulate, varying from scalding to freezing. I would not keep this from having me stay there again. Just a minor glitch , Breakfast room was small and congested.

This hotel was great for my very short stay in Rome. Wanted something inexpensive, close to the train station - and that felt clean and safe. This met all those criteria AND had a good breakfast as well. It was easy to find, and even though I arrived very late, I was welcomed and got checked in very quickly. My single room was tiny - but perfectly met my needs. The big bonus surprise? Wonderful rooftop view at sunrise when I opened the shutters.

Room Tip: If street noise bothers you, you may want to ask for a room that doesn't overlook the street.

We picked this hotel as it seemed to be near everything. It is, and the estimations of distance the Hotel gave out were correct. We even walked from St Peters back with no trouble and I am in my Seventies. Unfortunately my wife got sick the first night we were there and was admitted to hospital. Nothing to do with the Hotel. The staff were exceptional and helped with advice and transport to the hospital. My wife was released from hospital after a night and the staff made sure that she was comfortable and had coffee and food for the rest of our stay The rooms were really great in the main building. We had been told that Rome would be noisy.but it was quiet in the area around the Sonya.. Very clean and the furniture really good.. The hotel is made up apartments converted to rooms with a small open lift that could only take a limited amount of people but was adequate. The breakfast was really good. Plenty to eat although a continental breakfast. I hope to return to the Sonya again. I can certainly recommend it.

Room Tip: We were on the 5th floor and it was quiet and well lit.

Hotel Sonya is located within walking distance from Termini but with several bags we chose to take a cab. It is directly across the street from Teatro dell'Opera di Roma and walking distance to many restaurants. The best is Antika Boheme about 1/2 block away.

Our room was not large but had lots of storage, a comfortable bed and a very large bathroom with a great shower. We had room 514 which is in a very quiet corner of the hotel with a view onto the plaza area of many apartment buildings. The elevator is an old-fashioned cage type and can only accommodate 3-4 people at a time. (If you are leaving during busy morning hours I would suggest taking your large bags down early in the morning and storing them behind the elevator.)

Breakfast was included and had a very nice selection. Coffee was served at your table by wonderfully accommodating waiters. The gentlemen who works the day shift at the front desk was fabulous. He had ready answers and suggestions for anything you might need.

Should we return to Rome, Hotel Sonya would be our choice. It was recommended to us by the Cruise Critic roll call for our Transatlantic Cruise as well as a Rick Steves endorsement. Pay in cash and you may be able to confirm a Rick Steves discount.

Room Tip: Fifth floor newly renovated rooms.
