We arrived too early so we had to store our luggage and come back at 2pm. Not a big deal. The staff was very courteous and helpful. Our room was much bigger than we expected, which makes it nice to stay 4 days and be able to move around. Had spacious closet, and clothes storage. Big king size memory foam bed with extra pillows. there was a hidden sink and stove behind the extra bed, that we never used. Mini fridge with non expensive contents. Room 444 looked modern. Bathroom nice size with shower. Flat screen tv with many satellite music channels to drink wine to. Big breakfast buffet with many options for different tastes. They make their own homemade baked goods. My only complaint is that our room when we would walk in smelled like bathroom disinfectant after someone had used it. Yes, a slight sewer smell being covered up by cleaner. Maybe happened 2 of our 4 nights. Not enough for me to voice a complaint but enough to notice it and open our windows to lessen the smell. Overall, a great hotel for the value. If I had to be in Rome again (not a Rome lover, so not sure if I will return to Rome), I would stay here again.

We stayed three nights at Hotel Sonya and we're glad we did. The location is only a few blocks from the train station (Termini Roma--which incidentally has surprisingly good food and is like a mall) and if you go out the door of the hotel, straight down the street is a McDonalds for those who enjoy that kind of food!). You can also catch buses or the metro at the train station. We paid through Hotels.com ($103 per night which included a buffet breakfast and free Wi-Fi) and felt we got our moneys worth.

We arrived early and they held our bags for us until we returned from sight-seeing. The hotel personnel are very helpful and kind. They even gave us a book on Florence that someone gave them and that my husband was looking through for the next leg of our trip and offered to buy.

The hotel may not look like much from the outside but our room was beautiful. We were on the fifth floor so they took our bags up in a roomy elevator and we walked into a very elegant, modern-style, clean room with a comfortable king bed, a flat screen TV and lovely, up-to-date furnishings. It looked like it had just been remodeled with marble everywhere!

The buffet breakfast was included in the price and was absolutely fantastic. There was bread, pastrami, cheeses, yogurt, assorted croissants, various pastry and desserts, boiled eggs, fruit and they served you your beverage. A stand out was the outstanding vegetable pie with flaky crust.

The free WiFi (you get a user name and password) worked well on my iPhone but my husband had trouble with his on one day but then it worked better the next. We were able to Skype, Fring and email.

We felt very safe here and in Rome for that matter. We will return!

Stayed at Sonya Hotel Nov 29 - Dec 2. In beautiful older buidling that is across and down a couple of doors from the Opera House. The lobby is on the ground floor but the hotel rooms are on the 4th floor (push 3 in the great old elevator) of a very quiet apartment building - gorgeous wooden doors to each apartment and beautiful marble steps. Close to Termini and Republica metro stop - easy 5 to 10 minute walk depending on traffic. Felt very safe walking around. Always lots of business people around in the daytime and lots of shoppers and diners and opera-goers out and about in the evening. Absolutely immaculate! Our room was small (how much time do you really spend in it anyway, when you are in Rome!?) but quiet and modern, although we found the mattress a little firm for our taste. Other rooms vary in size. Well-lit bathroom. In-room safe and coffee/tea setup. Staff very helpful, explained the room and breakfast well. Will help arrange tours or transportation if needed. Free use of 3 computers in the quiet lobby. Staff very helpful if you have any questions about their operation. Breakfast offerings included coffee-cakes, fresh fruit, yogurt, egg casserole, rolls, bread, ham, cheese, hard-boiled eggs, cereal. Staff on hand to bring you coffee/juice in 3 small, secluded dining areas. Could not have been nicer. We loved it. It was perfect for us. Great location to sights or transportation to sights and a great value. Will definitely stay there again when in Rome.

We stayed in Hotel Sonya for about 4 days in Jul '10. When we arrived we were told that our room has been booked in their new hotel a few buildings away. The room was incredibly small, with 2 adults and a 6-year old and our luggage, there was not much space to move around. That said, the room was very neat, comfortable bed, clean bathroom, but again very small. The staff were very courteous and cheerful, breakfast was adequate. Location is good, walking distance to the Termini.
