“Average Rooms and better than average staff”
Reviewed 14 October 2013

This is a typical European non-chain hotel that was surprisingly hard to find from Termini train station - not as close as it appeared on a map. Rooms are small. Bathrooms were very good. We booked both the quad and triple rooms. The quad came with a double bed and a king bed in two rooms with an "L" layout. The triple was a king bed and a fold-out chair/single bed in what would be a tight king room. Both rooms had inefficient layouts that ate into available space. The front desk staff were very helpful and spoke good english. They helped us book a van to the airport that was a bargain and also directed us to a good restaurant. There is road noise and since the AC was not up to the task of cooling the room, this can be a problem. There is no restaurant but breakfast appeared to be good with a wide selection of fruits, juices, cereals. breads and meats - we left before breakfast started but the front desk went ahead and let us have some coffee. There is lots of unusual art on display that gives the place a certain charm but not enough to elevate it above average.

Room Tip: Request a higher floor to avoid road noise.

I liked the personal and historic touch. They have some wonderful retro furniture. The breakfast was nice but I missed the fresh Italian coffee which we had to take at a bar. My room was facing the street so the noise was annoying, put also mosquito bites here and there.

Arrived Rome for the 4th leg of our honeymoon and took a cab from Civitavecchia cruise terminal. Hard to find as the driver wasn't used to that part of Rome. If not for google maps, it would have taken much longer.

Upon arrival, we were greeted by a lady at the front desk and check in process was a breeze. The interior and exterior was beautifully decorated and it took us back to the 80s. Rooms had high ceiling but not so spacious. It felt like home actually! Breakfast was on the house every morning and it was surprisingly decent. Loved the eggs and bacon!

Travelling in and out to the various attractions were a breeze in fact. Just hop on bus 571 and it'll take you to the Colosseum and Fontana Di Trevi (walking distance). The Vatican City was like 7 stops away by Metro and it was that easy getting around. Getting food near the hotel was easy as the eateries don't close until 1am!

City tax is applicable but its really worth staying there again. Recommended for all!

This hotel was purchased on Hotwire, so exact location was unknown. If I had a better idea of the location, I would have chosen a different hotel, because it was further away than we expected from all the things we wanted to do. Long walk to the metro stop or the Termini Station. The hotel itself is quaint, the staff is very friendly and breakfast was very good. The showers are very small and cramped with no place to put your toiletries. Beds were comfortable. There is a cute patio area at the hotel main entrance. Cannot recommend this hotel if you are in Rome for sight-seeing because you have to take the metro or taxi everywhere. Metro is too crowded and the pickpockets are having a field day down there.

We chose an Expedia secret hotel and pulled up to a cute courtyard garden so we were hopeful. Location was ok. The art around the hotel was quaint and quirky but the rooms are very tired. Mould on the walls in the bathrooms, hairs in the sink, 2 single beds joined together (even though I am adamant I booked a double and we queried it and were told no there was no flexibility to change- despite it being a Tuesday!) we also had to pay 20 euros for parking.. For 98 euros we suppose it was reasonable but the 2 b&b's we stayed in on the other 2 nights were so much better.. So it's ok if it's a base but don't go by the pictures.. It's not that spectacular... We wouldn't recommend, not with so many other hotels to try in Rome!

We ended up at the Emona Aquaeductus from an affordable Hotwire offer, and Hotwire placed the hotel in the Termini Station zone. While it is within walking distance of Termini, it is a long walk and would be difficult with lots of luggage. The hotel also is located in the direction from Termini away from many of the main tourist sites. However, if you don't mind walking a bit, the location is okay, and it definitely worked for us.

When we arrived at the hotel, we were impressed with the lovely courtyard. Also, the lobby was bright and decorated with interesting, eclectic artwork and furnishings. The host provided us with a good city map and a suggested route for visiting the main tourist sites efficiently. We utilized her itinerary, which was excellent.

We had requested a quiet room, and we ended up facing the courtyard on one of the upper floors. It was quiet indeed and also comfortable. The room had beautiful tile floors, a couch, two single beds pushed together in the typical European fashion with soft sheets, and a clean and functional bathroom. The artwork in the room was imaginative. The air conditioning worked well. We definitely found the room to be restful, comfortable, and bright.

Breakfast was included, and it included a good and varied selection. There were meats, cheeses, eggs, melons, tomatoes, and desserts. All the food was fresh and tasty, and the staff continually refilled the platters and coffee urns.

Given the price we paid, I would definitely return to the Emona Aquaeductus. My only desire would be to have a hotel a bit closer either to Termini or to the main tourist sites; however, the quality of the hotel more than made up for the extra walking distance.

I got this from an Expedia secret hotel deal bid for 77 Euro/night in June which I think is a pretty good deal. We also stayed at Hotel Diocleziano for 182 Euro/night and Hotel Mecenate Palace for 110 Euro/night. Again, I am not going too deep to debate about the Italian hotel star systems as all 3 of these hotels call themselves 4 stars.

I think this is more like an inn than a hotel (in North American standard). Location is a bit far from Manzoni metro station (600 meters / 10 minutes from metro according to google map) especially if you have to drag your luggages across. With the money saved from hotel cost though, you could probably call a cab to and back from places.

My room is pretty big with high ceilings (bigger than the other 2 hotels) and it is pretty quiet without any noise from traffics (courtyard facing). Temperature control from the shower sometimes don't function too well (sudden drop of water temperatures) but no big deal as the temperature outside is pretty hot (30+ degrees). Air conditioning is alright. Breakfast is alright (coffee is pretty good). Elevator is a pretty weird shape though (triangular) and doesn't fit much in one (max one person with two large size luggages). Wi-fi works well. Service is pretty good if you didn't get the owner serving you (he seems grumpy). We stayed 3 nights and would even rank this higher than Mercenate Palace.

But I do think this hotel needs some bathroom renovation and probably should change the style of the bed covers and furnitures.

Room Tip: Always ask for an inside facing room higher up.
