When we called to inquire about availability on a popular week we were told that, as usual, they were quite full, so we did not expect to get a primo room, and did not get one.
Compounding this problem we arrives to a full house off the early New York flight and were told we would get the first room available. We did, and as we were more interested in napping than waiting chose not to wait for an offered better room.
The staff was very accommodating and helpful and of course, breakfasting outside while waiting is very pleasant.
The room, which was in the wing over the desk, should have been left with the Russians when Rocco Forte took over the property.
The room was big enough, and well furnished but its depressing Bronx-like view was depressingly airspace between buildings. Of course, a view overlooking the courtyard can be noisy.
All this was fine but the bathroom was TINY. I had to exhale to fit thru the door and of course there was not space for toiletries of an indigent midget let alone 2 adults, one of whom was a woman.
I understand that bathrooms in old buildings are a very difficult problem; bath in design and expense but what disturbed me was no one, realizing that this was so small, put the effort into laying out shelving, towel bars, hook and more shelves as one would expect a 5 Star property should.
I ended up emptying the tray by the mini-bar and using it to balance on the sink and provide space to put toiletries.
Management knows that they will need to rent this room, not as overflow but as part of their regular room inventory, and knows it is charging fully for it so 5 Star management should spend the time and effort, and a little money designing a solution as to making the space efficient and in keeping with what I expect in a luxury property.
Reading on Trip Advisor other reviews other guests appear also to have issue with the baths.
I love the De Russie. The staff is so Italian charming; the concierge found us good restaurants and were helpful with our transportation. Sitting in the Jardin is memorable and, for me, the location is perfect.
But for me they need to spend some effort on the baths to deserve 5 Stars.

i was in rome last week and really wanted to treat ourselves with the best that rome had to offer...but hotel de russie was definitly not it! we booked a junior suite and were severely let down. The room was very noisy, no flowers no welcome fruit basket or wine, no 'goodnight' treats, very poor quality toiletteries - remeber that this is a junior suite at a 5* expensive hotel where luxury is what you pay for. The room was very cold, the heating didnt make any differenve - we had to pull out all the extra blankets at night!

My feeling is that rocco forte must have been hit by the economic crisis and their clients are paying for it!

it was our second time at russie and the last for sure! The concierge is definitly not to be trusted - they failed to make oyr booking, they failed to tell us that we did not have a reservation, they made really poor and average recommendations.

When in Rome....stay here!! All roads lead to the Hotel de Russie....by far the best hotel in rome for business or leisure....yes it costs a bit more but well worth it....I had a great view of the Piazza dei Popolo...convenient to the Spanish Steps and the finest shopping Rome has to offer....Just do it!!

Room Tip: The courtyard is calming and idyllic!! You can't go wrong with any room and the spa is superb!

The only serious negative about this hotel is the cost. This is money well-spent if you are into luxury &service.

Team is courteous, efficient &friendly. They went out of their way to please us.

Broken stuff got repaired fast.

Restauent &bar are excellent; ditto room-service breakfast.

My wife got a cake, a greeting-card, and flowers for her birthday.

Room Tip: Look for French window to garden.

We stayed for a couple of nights in August 2011, the hotel is amazing and in a brilliant location....a few downsides - we were obviously there over a very busy weekend and our room wasn't ready when we checked in and although they took us to the bar for a complimentary drink I'm sure they then forgot about us as we had to go back to reception to chase up our room. Standard rooms are not very large. Breakfast buffet was excellent although they have a problem with birds everywhere. Spa and pool was very nice. I wouldn't stay again as I'm sure there is anther option in Rome which isn't quite as expensive and you get a more personal service.

We spent 3 nights at the DeRussie. Loved the room-we had a studio room and it was spacious and lovely. The staff is what makes the DeRussie so special (and the art work)
We had some trouble with our rental car delivery and the concierge made sure we were take care of and calmed me down when I was livid with Auto Europe!

We love the Rocco Forte chain and this property had many of the hallmarks of the group, particularly the beautifully designed rooms and good facilities. However, we were left feeling that this was our least successful experience in one of their hotels. Let's start with the good things - the property is lovely with an interior courtyard and spacious public rooms. The courtyard area would have been great in the summer - we were staying here in mid-winter so couldn't use it. The location is perfect for those who want to take advantage of Rome's shopping and it's close to a metro station for those who want to explore Rome more widely. But in some important ways it disappointed us. The service, always so sleek and subtle in other Rocco Forte properties, was here noisy and brash, with excessive and loud name-checking of guests. (They must have a policy on this, as it is included in their guest questionnaire.) For example, over breakfast to be asked every 5 minutes "Signora X is everything OK?" was a bit trying. The service in the bar was a bit peremptory - we had a sandwich lunch here on one day and weren't made to feel welcome - they actually made us move tables as the one we picked they had earmarked for someone else! And 50 Euros for two sandwiches and soft drinks is my idea of seriously expensive. The other major downside of this hotel is the noise - our rooms were on the third floor but we could hear the music from the bar throughout the day and evening - how is that even possible? The music at breakfast was also at top volume. We were here for New Year's Eve and the downside of the location became clear. The hotel is adjacent to the Piazza del Popolo and this is where the serious firecracker action takes place from 11 onwards - and after midnight the place went crazy. So this is not the place for you if you want a quiet restful stay. On balance, this is still a fantastic chain of hotels, just that the Hotel de Russie is our least favourite.

Room Tip: Some of the rooms on the third floor are noisy as they are immediately over the bar and you can hear...
