This hotel is clearly overpriced, but it is a splendid location in the heart of Rome.

The garden is absolutely gorgeous and I strongly recommend you try the Brunch there and the fresh juices. Pastries at breakfast are good and you have a great selection of cakes.

Rooms are very nicely arranged, although a bit small if you stay under the 700/800 EUR a night range (a lot already).

Ideal shopping point.. but be ready to pace for this location!

Room Tip: Go for a room with a view of the garden. If you can afford it, a suite with a terrace.

impeccable service is the hallmark here, along with a great location and wonderful spa. piazza puopolo is the northern border of the aurelian wall and a mighty fine open space, ringed by statues, churches and cafes. the hotel borders villa borghese; you have to walk up steep stairs to get there but you have a feel of openness in that direction. the spa has a huge whirlpool that we used most evenings before bed. the courtyard, and in fact the whole place, is peaceful. never got to the garden. the common areas and entryway are average. our room was neat, clean and very functional if a bit small by american standards. this is a fine selection.

Second time we stay at Hotel de Russie, great welcome at reception, room wasn't ready but was reassured it will be very shortly, got upgraded from a deluxe King to a suite, probably one of the best in the hotel. Location is great as well as service. Only disappointment is the reception employee at check out early morning arguing with me that I shouldn't get my Euro. 85,00 credit (part of American Express amenities) on my lunch charge as I haven't reached that amount. Just non sense.......finally after argumentation he decided to credit the amount. Ridiculous attitude to have with a returning client.

Room Tip: Definitely court side rooms and higher floor.

Great location for walking to most of the central sites in Rome. A beautiful spot, fantastic service and gorgeous setting. Food was good but not exceptional, but the ambience made up for it. Lovely rooms and bathrooms but the shower curtains were a bit 80's! Only small bugbear was that they charged 20 euros a day for wi-fi, and then it's limited to up to 3 devices. In this day and age this is just bad customer focus!

Had a great three night stay at Hotel de Russie. The location is perfect (near the Spanish Steps) and good food, too. The rooms are small. (But that is typical for Europe.) Only drawback: Because the rooms are small, if you request two beds, they will only be about one inch apart. The beds are comfortable, though.

I would stay at this hotel again.

We stayed here last summer in 2011 and I would have to say this is the most beautiful hotel I've stayed at in the world. The bedroom appointments were spectacular - cool blues and silver tones outfit the spacious, comfortable suite. The evening turn down service is a nice touch and the attendant comes in to close your shutters for a peaceful sleep. The location is perfect, just below the Villa Borghese park with some incredible vistas after a short walk up the steps. In the morning, beautiful breakfast items are served in the garden. All of the employees are friendly and willing to help with all of your requests. Upon arrival, our first inquiry was about food and they did not disappoint. A quick phone call to a friend at the front desk got us into a secret restaurant for locals. Within a 5 minute walk down the street, we were eating home made pasta and drinking wine in the back of what looked like a private kitchen. We were sad to find out the next day that the restaurant had closed for the summer break, but we were so fortunate to have eaten there. I have to say that the toiletries, towels, sheets and even closet accoutrements were of the highest quality. I enjoyed a massage at the spa and it was very relaxing with an elegant environment. I wanted to stay an extra week, but we were off to Switzerland after 3 days. I'll definitely be back.

I am not feeling the love at the Hotel De Russie lately.
I have been going for 7 years ,mainly because of the location and great garden views (if you are lucky). unfortunately the last 2 times they got our booking wrong and we did not get our favorite garden- facing rooms. This last visit we were in a newer wing, directly facing another wing and looking straight into their rooms. The windows at the Russie only have blackout curtains so if you need some privacy ( like when you are walking around the room undressed ) you have to close either the blackout curtains or the outside shutters which means no more daylight.
At nearly 600 euros a night for 2 people one would expect more than a hard foam pillow. Having spent a near sleepless night with a crooked neck we checked into the Ars Hotel right around the corner and for half the price of the Russie we finally had some soft pillows .
At the Russie the garden is priceless specially in the warm months, the staff is nice but i do not know if i will come back next time unless i bring my own pillows.
