“One of the Great City Hotels in the World- De Russie”
Reviewed 16 July 2014

By far- the De Russie is one of the best City Hotels anywhere- Location, Service, Food, Rooms- they did not miss a trick here- If anyone ever tells you - " How much time do you spend in your room " - tell them to go here- they will never say it again. Hotel De Russie is on my top 10 City Hotel lists and I travel often - It can be pricy but great things cost money.

We stayed here out of season. We had booked a suite but we were also upgraded on arrival and the total package was very heavily discounted. The suite was a proper suite of rooms (rather than just a slightly larger room). We were looked after superbly. We were given excellent recommendations for everything, including v informal restaurants. We also asked the hotel to book us a night at the opera, dinner at la Pergola, private tour of the Vatican and other tickets - the whole experience was totally mind blowing. We dressed up pretty much every evening.

I recall reading negative reviews, eg complaining about having to pay for eggs at breakfast. However if you know that the egg is going to be an extra when you book it doesn't seem like such a big deal. In any event the cost of a couple of eggs was in fact a relatively modest outlay as against the rest of the trip.

Room Tip: It is worth getting the best suite you can afford.

We recently spent two nights at this beautiful hotel. The hotel and gardens are beautiful. The service was outstanding also. We were upgraded to a large suite. Everyone was so helpful and friendly. The general manager is a class act. We made it a point to tell him how thrilled we were.
The beds are very comfortable which is not always easy to find in Italy. The buffet breakfast in the garden is amazing.
Great location. We would definitely stay here again.

We stayed at the Russie this trip for one night and we wanted to stay longer! The gardens are beyond amazing and the breakfast (and buffet) is delicious. Service is good but could be better (our room wasn't ready) but they had upgraded us to one of their suites. Big room with lots of space and a terrace. I recommend to ALL. Or at least for a drink at their rooftop bar!

Hotel De Russie is an amazing hotel, one of the best I've been to this year. The restaurant's atmosphere is very quiet, with amazing service. I especially like the rooms, very quiet and you'll feel right at home. Room service is excellent because they come to your room right after you call. Hotel de Russie is close to a lot of shops and restaurants. I mostly like how everyone is so helpful throughout your stay. I really like this hotel, and I hope you do as well.

This is considered the most luxurious hotel in Rome. It has a lovely location and is outrageously expensive so you expect the best. I was rather disappointed. I must admit we had just left at Aman hotel which I think has the best service in the industry but for 800 euro a night for a small room I was expecting a lot. The rooms and bathrooms are very small and the staff were not very helpful. We asked the concerige to make reservations for a business lunch for my husband and despite calling to confirm this with her twice she didn't follow through. When my husband mentioned he was disappointed she just shrugged it off. When we needed help with a flight change they wouldn't help.
If I'm ranting sorry but you expect more from a Rocco Forte especially at this price. So if you want to see and be seen, spend a ridiculous amount of money for a tiny room with an outdated bathroom and poor service this is your place!

Dear Guest,
Thank you for taking the time to share your detailed feedback. I am very sorry to read your comments about some of the issues you encountered during your stay.

We work hard to deliver a bespoke level of service and it is apparent, in this case, that we fell short. I will of course look into all the notes you shared about your experience and will contact the relevant departments to make sure they do not occur again.

If you would reconsider your opinion and give us a chance to earn back your trust, we will do our utmost to provide you with the great hotel experience that so many of our
guests have grown so fond of.

Best wishes,
Mauro Governato

The hotel is situated right in the heart of Rome and it's main attractions. You are 10 minutes walk away from the Spanish Steps and there are a plethora of Museums, attractions and delightful restaurants that can be easily reached within a 15 minute walk. There is a taxi rank 70 meters away from the hotel for the slightly further away attractions.

From the moment you arrive you are greeted by smiling and happy staff who all want to help you and make your stay memorable. Our room was very tidy and clean with every facility you could want. If something wasn't in the room, then a call to House-Keeping or Room Service remedied that straight away.

The hotel has well equipped gym and a great spa, which can only be best described as an enormous Jacuzzi and was brilliant for soothing your body after a long day's sightseeing. There are beauty and massage facilities as well, but we didn't sample these.

The breakfast was delicious with fresh fruit, pastries, cheeses and meats - in fact everything you would expect from a hotel of this calibre. Cooked breakfasts were available at an additional small cost, but we found the Continental Breakfast more than satisfying. We didn't dine in the restaurant in the evening - choosing to eat out instead, but if the breakfast is anything to go by, then dining in the restaurant would have been sublime.

For those that wanted a snack/light lunch then there is a courtyard within the hotel for such purposes. Drinks are served by delightful staff who are charming and attentive. This is a great place to sit down and relax either in or out of the sun throughout the day.

Every member of staff, from the Manager down wants to help you and we found this SO refreshing having stayed in other 5 star hotels around the world where this attitude wasn't present. All the staff are extremely polite and engaging - nothing is too much trouble!

If you want to stay in a luxurious hotel in the heart of Rome then look no further than the Hotel De Russie - you won't be disappointed. Thank you to all who made our stay so memorable.
