“Angels and Cellini”
Reviewed 7 February 2006

My husband and I have just got back from a long weekend in Rome staying at the Residenza Cellini. It is indeed very good; extremely clean with delightful staff. Only two grumbles, our room (no.2) was on the street side of the hotel and noisy at night, and breakfast is dull and disappointing. But everything else could not have been better. The location is so perfect you'll walk miles (we reckon we walked over thirty in three days) because you won't need to get the metro. When you do return, footsore and weary, a pot of tea is only a request away and there is abundant hot water for long soaks in the jacuzzi.

We left only one morning for the Vatican and Angel Tours came up trumps. We were in a group of four, our guide Liz was bright, well-informed and excellent at knowing when to talk and when to be silent. The three hours sped by and we could never have used the time so well without her help. So we also highly recommend Angel Tours.

Well having read extensive reviews of this hotel on tripadvisor, I was expecting all hype and no substance.

Needless to say that this was one of the best hotels that we have stayed at.

The decor was marvellous and the customer service was excellent.

We went for a long weekend in celebration of my girlfriend's birthday and the hotel even upgraded us to a different suite at no extra charge because of a prior guest cancellation.

I cannot recommend this establishment enough!

A wonderful treasure in a terrific location. Walkable to all major sites except Vatican. My family stayed with them for 5 nights in January. The facilities were lovely, immaculate, and the staff was truly exceptional. They gave us many ideas, arranged bookings, reservations, and on our last evening, even brought us a chilled bottle of Spumante as a parting gift. We will definately stay there on our future visits to Roma!

They must now have two apartments to rent, which I believe are in the same building near the Piazza Cavour.

Our family of five stayed for 6 nights (12/18-24, 2005) before Christmas this year, and EVERYTHING was wonderful. The apartment we stayed in had 2 very large bedrooms and 1 bathroom. Everything was very nicely appointed, but the bathroom was especially gorgeous... marble everywhere with a huge tub with jets and shower. It had a dining room and living room as well as a table in the kitchen.

The location was also very good as we were able to get everywhere we needed to go in a very short amount of time by either walking, bus or taxi.

The staff especially Gaetano and Donato were extremely helpful especially when we couldn't figure out how to get the spin cycle to start and the washing machine open! Yes, we are stupid Americans... They also arranged a van from the airport for us, which worked out very well.

We would stay in this apartment again in a heartbeat. For us, the price was essentially the same as for 2-3 hotel rooms, so it was even better!

If you stay in the apartment, there is a wonderful coffee shop/restaurant with the most wonderful coffees and baked goods (croissants, sweets, sandwishes, etc.) as well as a great sit-down buffet type meal. We never saw another American in there. (From the apartment, walk toward the Tiber River then turn right and go two short blocks. It is on the corner across from the entrance to Ponte Cavour bridge.)

Our family of 5 spent Christmas in Rome and stayed at the Apartment Cellini. This was a great choice. The apartment was very large and a great location, 2 very large bedrooms, 1 small bedroom, dining room and kitchen 1½ baths. The owner did everything for us to make our Christmas break wonderful. When we got to the apartment a small Christmas tree was setup. This is just the beginning of the great way the owners treated us during our stay. Also in the apartment were cookies and breakfast for us; wonderful choice would highly recommend.

We booked the Residenza Cellini based on the overwhelmingly positive feedback on this site, and it wound up being our first disappointment with TripAdvisor reviews. This location has maintained a #2 rating for Rome Hotels for much of the 2nd half of 2005, and we honestly can't see how this can be #2 in all of Rome. The RC is a nice bed and breakfast. Yes, the staff is friendly (Peter especially), the cappucinos are wonderful, the rooms are very clean, and it was certainly of help to have their computer available to check E-mails, etc. There is however little room to move within the room (we had the Jr. Suite), the beds are hard, the bed linens and towels are on par with a Holiday Inn, there is no sign of 24 hour room service availability, and all-in-all these are not inviting attributes when you've come back from a long day of sightseeing. Additionally, while the staff makes every effort to be of assistance to you, they are so shy that you hesitate to ask and when you do, you almost want to apologize for having asked. Our reservation was for a week, and yes I would have moved to another location if I hadn't already allocated our budget to other activities/tours that week - during which we had an excellent time. Do be certain to investigate other recommendations and locations in Rome before reserving here.

We can't recommend this hotel more. 6 beautiful and pristine rooms. Walking distance to all the main sights - Colosseum (10 mins), Spanish Steps (10 mins), Pantheon (10 mins) and all the beautiful little lanes that make Rome so unique. We emailed in advance and told them it was my birthday and not only did they upgrade us to a suite (and by the way, this means you get a jacuzzi bath and a slightly bigger room - but you'll be very happy in the doubles too) but on our second night they brought us in a bottle of beautiful local wine to celebrate with.

This hotel made our stay truly special. If you want somewhere special, small, quiet, safe and walking distance to everywhere this is the place. And email them in advance if you want help with restaurant bookings. They'll help with anything to make your stay more comfortable.

Rome is beautiful. This hotel is personal and unique. We can't wait to go back!
