“One of the best in Rome”
Reviewed 13 February 2012

Being a frequent traveller to Rome, finding a hotel to suit the budget, location and standards. always seem to be a task..but hey presto weve found it!!! The hotel is situated a stones throw from the Morrisons Irish Bar, of which we visit every year for the 6 nations rugby. Rooms were spacious, comfortable and staff very friendly. The terrace and breakfast was excellent, and having an omelette did the trick..

We stayed at ISA hotel during late January 2012. The location is great, safe, close to the Vatican, 8 minutes walk from the Metro station. The hotel is very small, standard rooms (euro 110 / night) are very small but this is did not bother me. Breakfast was excellent.

THE TV WAS NOT WORKING and took the personnel 2 days to fix it (! i thought this would only happen in Tanzania) because... it was Sunday and they could not call the technician!! However, i did not get a discount for that. Moreover, again in Sunday I requested a personal favor that needed the manager's approval. The personnel denied to call him (since it was Sunday and the manager apparently was busy playing Play Station or whatever...) and let me wait until Monday. Silly things, NO FOCUS ON CUSTOMER.

To summarize, this is a decent place to stay but NOT VALUE FOR MONEY. A price of euro 90 / night would be fair.

I'm actually wildly ambivalent about this hotel. The good: Location, reasonably modern room and bath, very nice terrace for breakfast and cocktails, good breakfast buffet. The bad: Like another reviewer, we could not control the overheating in late December, other than by opening our window 24/7. Worse, there was a sewer-gas smell that the very nice maid finally showed us how to minimize (by placing a bath-mat over the shower drain). She also gave us to understand that the adjacent rooms on our floor, and I gathered on the lower floors, had the same problem. The front desk staff was marginally polite, but not terribly concerned about fixing the problems with heat or odor.
If you consider staying in this hotel, do NOT take rooms ending in 00, 01 or 02! There are some positives; mostly the excellent location.

Two of us stayed there for NYE holidays, we had a reservation for Exclusive Room and were offered one on the second floor (old, small, with mini-sized bath). We chose one on the fifth floor - excellent room with a nice view and OK jaccuzi, but a broken TV which never got repaired. Receptionists were extremely unhelpful and pretended we did not exist (except when trying to sell us the overpriced NYE event in the hotel).

Room Tip: The Exclusive rooms on the fifth floor are excellent, avoid "exclusive" mini-rooms with mi...

Four of us stayed at this hotel for 4 nights at the beginning of November and had a brilliant time. The decor is beautifully done, both in the rooms and the public areas, buffet breakfast had an amazing choice, location is excellent for sightseeing and the staff are extremely polite and friendly, especially Willy the barman who couldn't do enough for us. The only tiny negative I can think of is that there is no drawer space in the room apart from one below the wardrobe and so a lot of our belongings such as shoes etc were on view. Apart from that, the hotel was wonderful and I would definitely recommend it.

Area recommendations
The area of the hotel (Via Cicerone) is excellent for sightseeing with Castel D'Angelo, Piazza Navona & the Vatican all within walking distance.
What to pack
We travelled in November and took mostly warm clothes with a few thinner tops. However, some days the weather was 22 degrees and we could have done with more summer clothes. At the end of the afternoon though the temperature does drop so you do end up needing a jacket/coat.
Dining
I would definitely recommend the Navona Notte situated on Via del Teatro Pace near to Piazza Navona. The food is excellent, staff very friendly and it is very reasonably priced. It is always full but they still manage to find you a table. We ate there several times and even tried the house carafe of wine which was lovely...

Thank you so much for your review!
we are really happy to give a good stay to our guests.
Concerning the space, unfortunatly in Rome the palace are antiques and for that reason the rooms are not very spacious.
We hope to have you as a guest in here future.
Thank you again and thave a good 2012!
Best regards

Stayed for 5 nights, the only reason it was for 5 nights is because I mistakenly prepaid. The location of the hotel was pretty good and the breakfast buffet was ok, other than that the hotel front desk staff was not that friendly, the rooms were way to small. The hotel is showing wear and tear, not a 4 star but more like a 3 star at best. They had a fire going every night and the whole hotel smelled like smoke, I told them something was wrong with their flu system because you should not have a heavy haze throughout the hotel but they did not seem to mind. Also, parking was $60 US/ night for our van, not cheap.

Stayed here together with my fiancee from Thursday to Sunday This was our eight time in Rome together, first time stay at Hotel Isa.

The location is very good, especially if you are going to the Vatican and/or shopping on foot. Just a few minutes to the Vatican or Piazza del Popolo. If your brave enough to watch a movie dubbed in italian there's a huge cinema just a minute away. The neighborhood is relatively quiet with Rome standards. We arrived with taxi because of a late night flight, but you can get here with the Metro and a few hundred meters walk as well.

I see from earlier reviews and from the pictures on the website that there are some rooms that are newly refurbished and some older ones. We stayed on the second floor and both the hallway and our room looked brand new.

We stayed in a superior room, more then enough space. Good size bath with plenty of towels. Comfortable beds with different pillows. There's some noise from the street in the early evening and when the city wakes up in the morning - but not disturbing during the night.

Breakfast was over the ordinary in Rome with a good selection. There's also an assortment of wine/sparkling wine if you would like that for breakfast. There's a buffet / a la carte restaurant at the hotel in the evening with a small selection of dishes - fresh ingredients cooked on the spot. It was very quiet there in end of November - I guess it varies depending on the season. Very relaxing to eat at the hotel when you have walked around Rome the entire day. Both breakfast and dinner are served on the roofterrace. Even in november it's possibly to have breakfast outside - must be amazing in the summer!

Check in and check out without problems. The reception and other areas on the first floor are really nice - they even used the fireplace.

In short I would recommend Hotel Isa - especially if the Vatican area is your main objective.

Room Tip: I think all rooms on second floor (2* room numbers) are newly refurbished.
