“Fine - good ac.”
Reviewed 13 June 2014

The room was ok. We booked a triple room which had one double and a camp bed. The extra bed was uncomfortable though and difficult to sleep on. The bathroom shower didn't have a screen which meant water all over the floor all of the time.

Breakfast was nice. Amazing eggs. Staff a little abrupt though.

We would stay somewhere else next time though. We kept getting lost when trying to find the hotel which was annoying.

Overall it is fine, not amazing but fine.

A great location, well within comfortable walking distance of all the main attractions (very close to the Vatican) but away from all the hustle and bustle of a city centre.
Rooms were clean, tidy and well appointed, a good nights sleep in a very comfortable bed.
The rooftop area was a delight with views to St Peter's making the sundowners even more enjoyable. Breakfast also served in this area - brilliant!
Staff were efficient and friendly.
Highly recommended

Room Tip: Inside rooms have balconies but no views.

We stayed for 5 nights in May 2014 in a deluxe room. All in all we were pleased with the stay and I can recommend this hotel. I'm still going to start with the negative aspects.

-

1. dusty floor in room

We got a bathrobe and slippers. One day after coming home my slippers were somewhat moved to a different place and they were extremely dusty. But then it was still cleaner than it usually is in my apartment. There is room for improvement

2. Elevator

small, old and slow. Staff sometimes blocks it for rather long times. We were on the fifth floor and hence after a long day had no motivation to walk up.

3. Rooftop terrace

somewhat dirty. It's by no means terrible but there are leaves and dirty/earth in the corners and below the plants. Tables are usually dusty and covered in pollen I assumed. Anyway, this could be improved with a lot with very little work...For the price range of the hotel I would expect that.

4. Rooms balcony

Was towards the back/side of the hotel in an ugly "back yard". No view, very unpleasant. Did not use it once.

5. The safe has a key

meaning you need to carry it along all day and not lose it. One would expect a safe with a programmable numeric code in a hotel of this price class

Now the positive aspects. The room was pretty big. Much bigger than in a similar priced hotel in Barcelona. I can recommend this. It wasn't that much more expensive and the space is nice. There are 2 closets for hanging closes, not very big but enough for a 5 day stay. In one of them there is a safe. (Note: Ask for the key to the safe at reception). The bathroom was huge for a European hotel, in fact it was larger than my own bathroom. There was only a shower however, no bath tub but thats fine with me.

+

1. Breakfast

eggs, bread, "meat" (eg. ham, salami and that stuff), cereal, fruits and fruit juices. Everything you need. You can eat enough to skip lunch entirely if you like

2. Rooftop bar

Recommendable too. It's not cheap but you get tons of free snacks/appetizers for each order. Nice atmosphere.

3. Size of room

Deluxe room, pretty big for a hotel.

4. location

You can walk to dinner, you can walk to Vatican and Piazza Navona. In general the main attractions are all pretty close together. You can easily walk to the Colosseum if you want to. Not that far.

5. close to bus stop and subway

Subway is close by, maybe 5-7 min walk. Or you could take the bus to the subway or directly to the place of choice.

6. Staff was friendly and helpful

no complaints

Room Tip: We had a Deluxe Room and the room number was 510. It looked better than most rooms in the pictures...

This Hotel is good. I had booked a family room, however, my family were given separate rooms which had an adjoining balcony. This is not ideal unless you have teenage children. The buffet breakfast on the roof top was delicious and the view was stunning. There was a large selection of foods including omelettes and bacon. There were also a large selection of drinks including tea, coffee, orange and sparkling wine.

The hotel is near the Vatican (5-10mins walking distance). Unfortunately, other attractions, like the coliseum were quite far away. The Trevi fountain and Spanish steps are in 15mins walking distance.

The staff were very helpful and polite at all times. During the stay, it was my birthday. Willy kindly bought down a cake and some sparkling wine. We also went to the rooftop bar, you could see St Peters Basilica lit up, it was picturesque.

Our rooms were also very clean. Towels were changed every day.

Overall the hotel was very good but the family room was a bit of a disappointment! :P

Room Tip: Don't book a family room if you have young children.

We arrived at the hotel at 11 am and were thrilled to find our room ready. Normally a room would not be ready until 3 pm or so. We were also thrilled to find our room had a king size bed! My husband is 6'4" and most hotels in Italy have doubles. The room was just lovely with a full walk in closet. The bathroom had beautiful marble appointments and bathrobes and slippers were provided. The bed was extremely comfortable.

But the rooftop setting with a view of St. Peter's dome is the real star of this hotel. An extensive breakfast buffet is served from 7 to 10:30 am. Omelettes and eggs cooked to order. Cappuccinos made to order. My husband's came with a star made from chocolate dust! Hot and cold dishes and prosecco! The tables were beautifully arranged and set up. It was a feast for the eyes as well as the taste buds.

And when we ventured back upstairs at cocktail hour we had the pleasure of meeting Willie, the hotel's famous bartender. His drink choices were always correct and he served wonderful warm small paninis and olives and other snacks with the drinks.

The location of the hotel couldn't be better. A stone's throw from the Vatican but also away from the main tourist congestion. There was a market a few blocks away where we bought some supplies. There was wonderful shopping for blocks and blocks and restaurants within a few steps that were fantastic. And I mean restaurants where locals were eating as well as us lowly tourists. I had a cheese ravioli with a sage and walnut cream sauce that was to die for.

I can't think of enough good things to say about this hotel! There were children here as well and it seemed to have families and couples of all ages staying here. And all nationalities.

Wonderful experience!

Room Tip: The small lift is somewhat slow and sometimes busy. So if you have a problem with stairs perhaps a...

Hotel was central for the major sites (Vatican and Coliseum). Breakfast was absolutely excellent with very good buffet choice of hot food (such as omelette, sausage and bacon) and yogurts, fruit, cold meats, cheeses. I have never seen a bottle of sparkling wine on offer before! The view from the roof top dining area was good with the beautiful law court buildings just a block away. The Vatican dome could easily be seen in the other direction.
The standard room (with front view onto road) seems to have been recently refurbished in designer style with a lot of marble in the bathroom. Air-conditioning unit was efficient and the quietest I have ever experienced. People had mentioned the firm mattresses, but that was easily sorted by a folded blanket beneath the sheet.
The one thing I was miffed about was that they had shut the evening restaurant for May. But that gave the opportunity to sample the many adjacent café/restaurants just a short step away.

Room Tip: I think the cheaper rooms that do not have a 'view' look into a large light well. They may...

I should have given this hotel only 1 star however I gave a generous 2 because of the location, staff, and breakfast. Other than that, forget it! I stayed at this hotel with family. We chose it because it was close to major historical monuments and Vatican City plus it was the only available hotel that can accommodate 3 people/triple or suite.

We were greeted by very friendly staff. Stefano, Victor, Yomar, Elena, and Willie went above and beyond for us. I can find no fault with with their service at all! The lobby is beautiful, tastefully done and modern. However, it stops right there. We were assigned room 301 and was appalling. The room is very OLD, decor is dated-a cross between the 80's and 90's,not renovated like the other doubles or single rooms in the hotel. To give you an example: neon orange trim! Very ugly! I'm sure the other rooms were updated but the triples needed renovations BADLY! Linens and pillows were sub par. Also, there was this strange sewage smell from the bathroom! 6 night with this smell...Horrible.

I found that the smaller boutique hotels didn't turn on the air condition till the summer compared to larger hotels like Rome Cavalieri which I stayed last time I visited Rome. We didn't mind in the evening since it was cooler and to remove the sewage smell. However it's noisy so we didn't get enough sleep. However, it becomes stuffy in the afternoon if we didn't go out of our rooms.

Breakfast is outstanding. They serve omelets, assorted fruits, eggs, meats, cheeses, juices, prosecco, double espresso, breads , cakes, and so much more. The view from the terrace is nice towards the Vatican.

Again it was the location, staff, and breakfast only that saved our stay. I won't return to this hotel. Going back to Rome Cavalieri! Lesson learned.

Dear mcvelasco,
thank you for your comment about the Hotel Isa. We really appreciate your positive impression about our staff, location and breakfast: those are for sure some of our mainstay.
Regarding your comment about the room, we are really surprised to read your disappointment because the one you describe is one of the rooms renovated at the beginning of 2014 trying to keep the original style (handmade furnitures and paintings) mixed with modern design touches (the neon orange trim is part of this process of styles mixture that characterizes a part of the Hotel).
We hope to welcome you again in one of our (pure) Design room and positively change your opinion about our rooms

Best wishes,
