The reviews do somewhat sum up my experience of the Giotto. It's basic, a little out of the way, but CHEAP and clean. For context, my single room was little over GBP30/night, in the middle of August.

I had a single room, which was certainly on the small side. My friend's double was more comfortably proportioned. It was clean, and the bed comfortable enough as a place to crash. However the room was dingy by day, yet insufficiently darkened by the thin and tatty curtains by night. Wifi is free, and worked fairly well most of the time.

Breakfast was included in the price (remember how low that price was), but very basic - don't expect fresh fruit or warm cooked food. The pastries seemed to be the highlight of the show. Avoid the coffee machine and head to the cafe opposite instead for a 2EUR cafe latte or similar.

The rooftop bar had the look and ambience of an abandoned cruise liner, but could be an OK spot to sit out (particularly on the evening my air con had failed). However, the staff there were the best of the place friendly and charming, a contrast to the slightly rude and oddly disconcerting manner of the front desk staff.

Finally, a note on location. This is not central Rome. Do not expect to step out and see the Colosseum on your doorstop. However it is accessible via the Metro (which is approx 10 minutes walk away) to central areas (in an additional 10-15 minutes, one way fare 1.50EUR). If you take nothing else from this review, do use CORNELIA Metro, and not the one which appears to be 'nearer' on maps.

In sum, DO use this hotel if:
- you want to visit this amazing city but not spend a fortune
- you accept this is purely a place to crash as you'll be out and about all day anyway
- for some reason you need to be in this neighbourhood (unsure what that would be...)

Do NOT use this hotel if:
- you expect frills and services
- you have the budget for something more central, or with better amenities and service
- you have mobility issues that may be restrictive to getting in to the city owing to the walk to the Metro
- you are a solo traveller: I am unsure I would feel overly happy taking that walk alone.

I travel a fair amount on business and for pleasure - and this was a tough one to review. Feel free to message me with any questions :) But Rome is an amazing city. If price means you need to compromise... it's OK.

Room tip: Remember a single will be a single - small.

The hotel probably was a garage in the past, that's why there are no balconies. The property has a round shape. The rooms are quite small, and surely I do not want to describe the bathrooms! The first day, we were given a room on the ground floor, into which the windows were on the top near the ceiling and you could not see outside. When we refuse to go inside, they gave us a room on the 5th floor, with a bathroom for -I don't know-babies. If you are more than 20 kgr and 1 meter height, try not to use this bathroom. You will stuck. Moreover, the breakfast is really poor and every day the same. No fruits, no vegetable, everyday the same slices of salami and bad quality cheese, no eggs, two kinds of marmelate, not toasts. The reception personnel except one are really arrogant and no good manners at all. Rooms are old and dirty.I left a napkin in a corner, and it was left there for 3 days. The fourth day I took it myself. I think even in Rome, you can find something better with the same money.

So the good parts are
The bus stop is 5 minutes away to catch the metro or to go direct to the Vatican. There is a night bus too.
The cafe opposite the hotel is the best part- friendly, good food and atmosphere.
Rooms are clean and water is hot

And the bad parts
There are no other facilities around the hotel. There were directions to an ATM but we didn't find it.
You can hear everything from neighbouring rooms.
Breakfast is poor- machine coffee and juice- tinned fruit salad- so that leaves bread and cheese and croissants and a couple of cereals.
Rooms are small and no relaxing seating
Mini bar with nothing

This is tucked away at the end of the Metro with a 15 mins walk to the hotel. Staff very accommodating. Quiet hotel and clean. No lift to top floor though. Wifi in foyer The loo in my room 6 Top Floor needs some gymnastics if you want to sit down with your legs over your shoulder !!

Room tip: Single rooms are very small, best go for a double

Wasn't especially tidy- hair left on bathroom floor and a tiny room. Opposite a noisy bar in a intimidating area also very hard to find if you don't know where you are going. It's a 15 minute walk minimum to the metro or bus -on a road with part of a pathway or walk on road. The only positive I found was they did a good breakfast buffet.
