“Basic rooms but very comfortable”
Reviewed 20 September 2013

We have stayed in the hotel Columbia in Rome twice. It has a very beautiful very Italian interior that used to house holy men that were attached to the Vatican. Vatican City is a stone throw away. The staff were helpful and very pleasant ! The bar area was very comfortable and they gave service with a smile. The room was small and basic but the beds were the most comfortable I've ever slept in away from home , which is the most important thing for me. Food was lovely and they have a very nice restaurant . I love my trips to Rome and this hotel made it even more pleasant .

Room Tip: There was no swimming pool .

We stayed in this gorgeous hotel in May, 2013. The Hotel Columbia (where we stayed for just one night after our tour finished) was a breath of fresh air. The front desk staff were so welcoming and couldn't do enough for us. Our room was upgraded and even though we were at the front of the hotel, on the street, with the shutters and blinds closed we couldn't hear a thing. Comfy bed, the best bathroom we encountered in the whole of Italy (and we'd seen plenty of awful ones in 4 and 5 star hotels), lovely breakfast room with friendly staff .Had a couple of nights in another hotel before starting a tour of Italy and we were very disappointed with that so-called 4 star hotel. Rude staff, tiny noisy room-horrible.
I would not hesitate to recommend this hotel to friends and family and would stay there again if I return to Rome. It was also only 15 minutes easy walk to all the main attractions, plus close to station.

We have recently returned from a lovely 3 nights stay in this lovely hotel :) the staff were really helpful and our room was clean and comfortable. The breakfast was enjoyed on the roof top terrace and was within easy walking distance of the Metro to get to all the local attractions :)

A lot of other reviews have said don't be put off by the outside décor but to be honest couldn't really see what the problem was!!!

Lovely eating places nearby as well :)

Thank you to everyone at the hotel for a lovely stay :) xx

A short walk from the train station. Staff are friendly. welcoming, helpful & cheerful. Room was clean, a reasonable size and bed was comfortable. The pillow menu was a nice touch - you can choose exactly the right pillow for you. Slept well, no outside noise (we had a room at the back of the hotel). Mini bar reasonably priced. Room cleaned & towels changed daily. Breakfast was lovely - continental buffet style, plenty of choice & lots of it. It was an absolute delight to start each day with breakfast on the roof top terrace. Breakfast room was clean and smart. Busses, trains, metro short walk. All sights in walking distance - bring comfortable shoes, you will walk a lot in Rome, there is so much to see. The rooms could do with a bit of updating, however the amazing staff more than make up for this. I left my handbag on the roof terrace one evening (containing all holiday money) and it was returned to me quickly by the member of staff who found it. Would also recommend Strega restaurant 5 min walk from hotel - turn right out of hotel and walk to end of road. Also got a good exchange rate changing pounds to euros at reception. Would return to Columbia Hotel.

Room Tip: we were on 4th floor at back and it was very quiet.

stayed here in July and could not fault it yes first impression from the pavement is a bit off putting but once inside the staff are so efficient the air conditioning rooms are a blessing after a days sight seeing in Rome ideally situated for train station and to get out and about in Rome itself ,The roof top terrace is lovely as was breakfast which was fresh each morning and the staff are so helpful .Would defiantly recommend this hotel

This my first stop in Italy and I loved the location. It was convenient to many stores, restaurants, and transportation. I felt safe walking around day and night. The hotel staff was very friendly and helpful in recommending restaurants and place to see as well as navigating around the city. The room was clean and relatively quiet.

We stayed at this hotel towards the end of June 2013. We had travelled from Sorrento via Naples by train and had booked this hotel because it is close to Rome Termini. We found the hotel very easily on foot. I would say that the street appearance is not that good with broken pavements and scattered dustbins. However, we found this hotel to be excellent. We had a room over the street which was not at all noisy. The room was spacious and clean with very comfortable beds. The breakfast room, choice of breakfast and staff could not be faulted. The location is very handy for visiting all the sites by local transport. I would recommend this hotel.
